Despite not reaching his full potential, Schurrle was always someone I was happy to see in a blue shirt. He needs to be playing week in, week out without such immense competition, which isn't something we can't really give him so it's a move that makes sense for both of us. Glad to see he isn't leaving on bitter terms though.

"I always hoped the move would happen," said Schurrle. "I wanted to come last year to Chelsea and it didn’t work. At the beginning it was really hard for me. I wanted this so much.

"It was a missed opportunity of course but I said to myself I had to do my best in every match and every training session and it would come at another time. I had the contact all the time. "I was confident I would still get the move. When it was clear Jose Mourinho was coming to the club, the first thing I heard was that he wanted me too." "Michael told me all the time this is a great club, with great people in this club, like a big family," said Schurrle. "He told me if I had to change then I had to do this move to Chelsea. Everybody knows that Jose Mourinho is really good for the players.

That’s what Michael told me. He convinced me that he could make me a better player. "It makes me proud to hear that but I know that I have to improve much," said Schurrle. "It is an honour for me to play for this club and the only thing I want it to help the team with my qualities to become a success."

Many people say Cuadrado is far from consistent, so I opt not to get too excited for the time being.

Good signing on paper though.

He has confirmed with his Twitter name he will wear 74. What is it with players from the Italian leagues and wearing such high numbers?

Yes, he wanted the #11 shirt and he couldn't get it obviously so he got creative instead.

Fair enough but still my question remains about players high numbers in the Italian leagues :p to Ronaldinho 80, Eto'o 99, El shaarawy 92 are a few that come to mind.

For El Shaarawy it's his birth year.Same for ronaldinho and etoo I think with 1980 and 1899...

Eto'o= No.9, aka the striker's shirt.
El Shaaraway= The year he was born

**** knows about Ronaldinho. He probably just chose something with a 0 on the end because 10 was taken.
(edit: Quasit has correctly pointed out that 1980 is Ronaldinho's year of birth)

We made a decent little profit again with the ins and outs, if the reported fees are correct that is.

you lot seem to make a **** load from player sales

That's our new business model to keep us in line for FFP.

Sad to see him go though. He's been great for Southampton this year and I'll always have a great memory of him playing for us in the final. I'm really starting to dislike our Jan transfer windows ;_;
