Seen us linked with Cresswell a few times. If we are going to try and sign him why didn't we just keep Bertrand?

A better question, why didn't we try harder for Shaw.

Not really sure, was FFP a factor for you last year? Mourinho later on claimed the thing about wages, but that sounded more like an excuse to the media than anything else. I mean, either Filipe Luis or Shaw were a risk, but Shaw would have been a better risk, considering he is British and young. Would have been an interesting battle if Chelsea were in for him too.

They were just that we blew them off with fee and wages.

Looked excellent against Chelsea, first game where he looked threat attacking.

100k/week for a 19 years old? Shaw would have been the best long term replacement for Cole, but his wages are absurd.

Funny how it varies in every news paper report. No one has a clue what his wages are. Some even said he is paid more than Lahm which Shaw even commented on twitter.

Obviously we have no way of knowing how much he is played unless United or he confirms it. 100k was mentioned by numerous sources, so I'm just assuming they are closer to the truth.

Fact is that Shaw is a very young player, who at this point is just a great prospect, and doesn't justify 100k, or anything in the close region of this sum. You overpaid, to be sure it's yours, which is an absolutely logical move. On the long term, it might look like we will regret not buying him, but these youngsters are getting out of hand with their demands. Sterling is a fine example these days.

Initially it was reported it was 60K, then each passing week he got hikes without signing new contract.

Also it was just **** stirring by Jose and I don't think anyone take him seriously or believes he speaks truth always. Also it's not surprising that teenagers are getting paid more now. With the new TV deal and huge commercial income it's obvious wages will increase. Hazard was paid 150K-160K and huge agent fee when he was 21. Clubs pay them when they feel it is needed.

Also whether 100K is justified or not depends on his performance, not age. Just like Sterling, He knows he will get paid shitload anywhere so why should he be satisfied with lower wages than Sturridge?

Saying all that, Shaw is paid 60K per week gets much lesser clicks than Shaw is paid 100K or 120K per week.

How many teams were after him? We did the same you did we Shaw: overpaid, to make sure he's ours. In hindsight, I doubt anyone can say it wasn't worth it. Had he flopped, it would have been some serious loss of cash.

I don't think a 60k wage would have been a problem for Chelsea, thus my skepticism about this sum. The transfer sum, again not a problem. ****, we even made some profit with the transfers in the summer.

Like I said, would have loved to have Shaw with us, but the truth is we are covered on that position. It's not like Azpilicueta is 34. And let's be honest, he would not have played a lot of games. Filipe was arguably the best LB when we bought him, and still couldn't get Azpilicueta out of the team. Last summer was all about what we need. Shaw would have been a gamble/luxury signing.

Also I don't believe transfer sum wasn't the problem for Chelsea. I have made many posts on this topic in the past which always end up going in circles, so I will pass it now.

Like the case of Shaw's wage, you too have no way of knowing, and neither do I for that matter, what Chelsea's finances are or were at that point.

As far as I'm concerned, we were just having a friendly chat, so I to will pass in starting a 10 page heated argument about things we assume, and know nothing of in reality.

Exactly. We can only assume and argue thinking our assumption is logical and spot on.

I don't know how Chelsea fans feel about Shaw but as a United fan I'm very happy that he is our player. For a young player he is amazing defender and he is improving his attacking game. On top of that he is one of the quickest player in the league. Saying that you have Azpi who is superb defender but his attacking is limited, not sure whether it is because he plays as LB.

He certainly burned Ivanovic a few times last week. If he keeps his head out of the clouds, he will be as good as Cole.

Azpilicueta's limits come, in my opinion, from the fact that he is poor with his left foot. When he played on the right, he went ahead whenever he could. I would love to see Cesar and Filipe start a few games on their best positions together.

Is it too much to hope for Shaw playing out his contract before making a dream free transfer to Chelsea...?

Utd would never ever sell us a player of shaws quality. Only rubbish like Veron.
