AVB tactics at Porto:
4-3-3
4-2-3-1

That was basically it but he was very fluid in his changes from game to game, even sometimes using a 4-3-3 with wingbacks pushed up to counter a 4-4-2...

I made a tactics pack for it if any CFC fan wants to test it on FM with Chelsea your more than welcome lol

4-2-3-1 will be with a deep lying PM/DM and 2 wingers/inside forwards who can move fluidly in a sort of front 3 despite it being a 4-2-3-1 it often became a 4-2-1-3, and the 4-3-3 was basically the same as the latter version of a 4-2-3-1 he played but structured different with a DM/Deep lyer/AM in a midfield 3 and fluid forwards who could come deep/stay wide/come inside depending on the situation.

So obviously what do Chelsea lack atm?

A deep lying playmaker, (And a DM to replace Essien...Not Mikel.)
So ideally a Chelsea team would look like:
Vidal-DM
Moutinho-DLP CM
Pastore-CM (Unlikely but I can dream)
RW-? (No idea but Kalou seems to think he will be starting)
ST-Torres
LW- Would love Mata but probably Malouda.

Ivanovic/Cole fit his full back moulds well, one offensive and one entirely more defensive in style.

Anyway I chipped in, Parker would probably play the deep role...

I am seriously worried that we don't bring in a new AM/Attacking CM to replace Lamps because hes older and more injury prone and who will step in?
Ramires is box to box imo, and Benayoun is good but old and not really sure he can win titles...

So Ramires doesn't really fit the system? Surely he can play a more disciplined role in Essien's absence if need be? Sturridge should be ahead of Kalou for the RW role too

*Sigh* at least you tried Snypar.

I need to find the few Man City fans that kick around...Joe should be around somewhere he SHOULD read it, more reads I get I get pushed more on the WP popular blog list=more readers overall!

I think AVB has priorities at CM/CDM and on the wings he will definitely bring in one new winger, right of left Im unsure but probably right...

Ramires has that talent in him, stamina to burn and a decent tracker/tackler but he wouldn't have the discipline imo he likes getting involved in offensive moves too much.

send it to thornton too, good rational city fan

very good read

Blues won't seek Essien replacement

Thought this would happen, it will just mean Mikel will get more game time but we will push even more now on getting Modric or another CM which we were after in the first place. If that means overspending, I think they will do it.

Good! Mikel is quality. We need a playmaker not an Essien replacement because I don't feel we have a playmaker. We have McEachran, but I don't think he has enough experience to play most games and we have Mikel, but he'll most likely be played as a very deep-lying playmaker so he can't make them cutting edge passes around the box, unless he is played more advanced (like Nigeria). I personally want Pastore, he would be perfect for our team and I hope AVB is seriously considering him, as Zamperini claims. Another player I'd like is Moutinho who can play as a more advanced playmaker or deep-lying playmaker which would help cover various positions. Another player I would like is Pjanic - who didn't have the best of seasons, but he would be cheap and is still young (21) I think it's very unlikely now, unfortunately. Looks like he may be on the move though.

Who's going to cover for Mikel?

By the way when Emenalo described Mikel as 'world class' I nearly fell off my chair...

If we get him - Moutinho, if not Moutinho then McEachran, if not McEachran then just don't bother playing a DM and play a flat three in midfield with Ramires in the centre.

Mikel may not be world class, but not many are. He is however a very good player and maybe one day he can fall into the bracket of world class.

im still not getting why is Mikel being so underrated. He is so good ffs. He has the potential of being something really special in the midfield, and if not NOW when we really need him as he is the only one natural DM who can replace Michael, i dont see when. STOP UNDERRATING HIM FFS. all of you.

Mikel is a very good defensive central mid, does his job well when on form, nothing more

My problem isn't with his defending/his attitude but on the ball he is pretty terrible, amount of sideways/backwards passes he did last season and even then he somehow managed to kick it to the linesman...

His indiscipline has been a problem as well (Remember the Red vs United? Vs 10 men they beat us 2-0), he reigned it in alot last season but it does creep up every now and again.

''Why can't Mikel replace Essien?''

Essien offers far more of a threat on the ball/opposition area and Essien has such better technique its almost incomparable the passing ability of Essien to Mikel.

To summarize: Mikel=Top Defensive player, but my frustration is how he is so poor (often) on the ball and gives it away way too much to be considered a title winning DM at this moment. Would rather Vidal/Isla came in and played the role since they are both brilliant on the ball and can keep it for the team...

Mikel offers you nothing going forwards, lots of very safe, lateral passes

Mikel plays better when he has Essien and Lampard alongside him. I would be happy if going into our first game our midfield 3 was Mikel, Lampard and Ramires. The only problem with Ramires is that he is very rash and picks up alot of cards. I could even see Luiz as a DM he can defend, likes to get forward and he has a great range of passing. I do want to see one CM in though and maybe a forward thinking player too. Lets not forget this team wasen't a million miles away last season so it needs fine tuning not a total revamp.

From what ive seen, getting him games at Chelsea should be the priority, if you sign one mid, i can see him getting 15-20 games, possibly 25, and if he starts half of those thats a big boost

but it doesnt need to be an ideal world. you bid 27m for modric. Vidal is 17m

I personly think McEachran is ready to start games for Chelsea but this is Chelsea and Boas needs to hit the ground running. Say if results start going against us the first thing the media will slam him for is playing McEachran and thats alot of pressure on both club and player. What is your obesssion with Vidal lol, is it wrong if Boas dosent fancy him?? No. Football is all about opinions simple as that and i trust Boas's more than yours and mine.

Very true...

Aguero - I am leaving | Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News

Please sign him AVB! Aguero, Pastore and Mata would be amazing, in fact any of those three. But...

Aguero Torres Mata or Torres

Lamps Pastore Aguero Pastore Mata

Mikel Mikel Ramires

Mata or Aguero on either wing or swapping. I'd still love Neymar and Lukaku, but I don't think we need to move as quickly on them (especially Lukaku) and Neymar would be unnecessary if we got Aguero.
Aguero - I am leaving

Argentine ace insists he is moving

hope we have a chance of getting him. i really do.

Just posted that, was going to about 2 and a half hours ago, but the internet went off lol.

To be honest i got no problem with you signing Parker, it would leave us in a better position than if you signed someone more suited.

RE: Josh, then what is the point in having talented youth? We had to hit the ground running, still played smalling and the twins. Rafael was halfway there from last season but all three really made their mark this season. If you think SAF cared what the media thought doing that, Smalling would never have been signed. Back the youth

Mikel has improved his discipline enormously. I used to be worried that every game he would get booked, but the past 2 seasons he has been a lot, lot better, it's no longer an issue with him.

He isn't poor on the ball, it still baffles me how people think that he isn't good technically. He doesn't give the ball away that much sometimes he will get mixed up with others, but that's lack of communication and concentration, which are things he needs to improve. But when he wins the ball back, he's as strong as an ox, shields the ball and then gets rid of any danger, usually. He rarely gives the ball away with his passing. I'm not sure about at the end of the season, but midway he had the best passing accuracy in the PL in the past 3 years. I know you will say it's because he passes it sideways and backwards, but that's the job he's been given to do under the past managers. When he does play it forward he is one of the best passers in the PL. I fully believe that AVB will give him a lot more freedom next season if he plays and you will see a lot more forward-passing from Mikel.

Huge difference with the sides and you know it, if Utd dont get a great start it dosent effect Fergie's job. If someone gets a bad start at Chelsea his job in under threat. There is much more pressure being the manager of Chelsea than being Fergie at Man Utd wouldnt you say? Like i say i want Josh to stay and get many games but if he isent going to get many games then he is better off on loan somewhere where he will play week in week out.

When the side is playing well Mikel is much more involved and gets noticed more. His problem is when the side is not playing so well the position he plays in gets alot of stick because he "should be doing better". I like Mikel and glad he chose us over Utd, also the lad is still only 24 and being played in a position that is still newish to him.

Then AVB needs to change that mentality or Chelsea will never get anywhere long term. There is always pressure on SAF at United. WE won the league and got the CL Final, and it still wasnt good enough
