It takes approx. 3 years to build a new team. We are not talking about a short term success here, we should build a new fresh team, and in order to do that we need to get rid of some players. We should build for the future. Long-term. 1 year is not enough.

I know we need to rebuild a team, but the contract length shouldn't determine what needs to be done. Guardiola had 1 year contracts at Barcelona, and didn't stop him rebuilding the team, but he also didn't have Roman above him.

We also need to see how RDM will perform in the league, if we give him a 3 year deal, and we finish outside top 4, then what? We spend more money getting rid of him and getting someone new in. A 1 year deal is just more safe.

Guadriola didn't need to rebuild Barca! They had a great team, he just made the odd addition here and there and managed the egos and got them playing well. Chelsea need a full revamp of the squad. A manager can't build for the long term in just 1 season, it takes time. You get rid of him in 1 year and then someone else comes in and wants to do something differently and you're back to square one. As others have said it's 3 years or nothing. Even if he does miss out on the top 4, as long as progress can be seen then that's fine. There will be bumps on the way

Very different with Guardiola, he also was never going to be sacked, they'd have given him 5 years. He chose to go down that 1 year route

AVB also showed signs of progress, but it didn't stop him getting the sack. I feel it's just to risky to give RDM the 3 years now. It would be much safer to give him a year now, then give him an extension once the years up.

Wasn't aware of that.

Whilst I disagree with his sacking, Chelsea fans here will give reasons why it happened. Although of little consolation to AVB, Roman did at least warn the players to buck up after he was sacked. This could mean he realises he got it wrong and will be prepared to give another manager more time, but we'll see. Giving him a year basically wastes another year

If anyone pays 35m for Hulk they are bonkers. Not saying he is a bad player but that is far too much for him.

But it kind of does. Roman doesnt feel giving RDM 3 years is a right thing, because maybe he doesnt actually think he can be the long-term solution for Chelsea. And rebuilding a team has to be done by one person/manager.. What's the point of giving him a year contract when RDM will not be here to finish his refreshment/rebuilding? And the same story repeats once again the next summer - new manager, new ideas and new philosophy, for which by the way, he has players from a previous manager (RDM) that doesnt suit his style/philosophy. And what happens then? Giving a manager a year contract is a clear indication that you dont trust him, respectively you are most probably not going to extend his contract after that year, or even sack him after 6-7 months due to poor results, or maybe another reason.

Guardiola build his own 'thing' at Barca and he was never going to be sacked in the first place, he was given the chance to apply his own style. Very, very different situation there.

Nice article by DM here where Eddie Newton gives us some insight into Chelsea's preparations for the CL Finals and the dressing room celebrations as well as Roman's speech. Link is here

@TouchlineDrama: L'Équipe and Eurosport both claim Eden Hazard is close to agreeing a €40m Chelsea move complete with a 5-year contract on €126,900 per week.

Touchlinedrama? Never heard of it. The Mirror said he had chosen United, so god knows.

Quite a few rumours claiming we are close to signing Van Der Wiel from Ajax. Would be a good deal if its true in my opinion.
