? Benitez calling us a plastic club with plastic fans is not ridicule?

-edit-

Hang on, do you think I'm talking about Figo here?
At no point did he call your fans plastic, he did question the passion of your fans, and in fairness there is a bit of truth to that. Its hardly a vicious slandering. Not at you, but in general, why is it that fans can dish it out but not take even the slightest dig?

But it's massively implied that our fans are just plastics who don't care about the club. Do you honestly not see why him saying that our fans had no passion and don't put their hearts into the game is incredibly offensive?

And I think fans can take criticism. A lot of us here have admitted that we've seen plastics at the games and other criticism of songs/chants etc. This was not criticism, this was a petty sideways swipe referring to a stereotype that lots of fans hate.

It was a totally off hand comment during a feud with Jose, and one that certainly had some merit. Mountain out of a mole hill this.

You lot make it sound like he stood and went "i'm gonna get this lot" "PLASTIC FANS!!!!"

the context seems to have been totally revised and re-written.

Well, look at it this way: Jose kept getting into cat fights with other managers all the time when he was in Chelsea manager, but i'm pretty sure every club in PL would still welcome him with open arms.

Meanwhile Rafa gets **** on for basically doing the same thing in another club. What gives? You make it sound like he at least took a dump on Chelsea's kit.

The only context that matters is that it was a serious comment. It's not like it was as mentioned in a club roast of something, it was an insult directed at the fans.

The fact that it was in a spat is irrelevant, it was still easily enough to make Chelsea fans hate him, especially seeing as it touched a raw nerve. The key part about Tyton's Jose example is the word manager. He didn't just insult our manager, he specifically singled us out as fans.

Two years ago, a certain "Fernando Torres" signed for Chelsea for a fee of 50 million pounds. At the age of 26, he was received with much fanfarre by the fans, who were expecting to see a quick, clinical striker leading the line for their club. Instead, they ended up with one of the -if not the- most expensive flops in football history. Torres played a total of 70 league games for Chelsea since joining the club, scoring 14 goals. While this alone says a lot (a goal every 5 games for a top club playing with a lone forward is a dismal record), it looks even worse when you compare it to Emile Heskey's 14 league goals in 68 games playing for Birmingham City at the same age.

This. Despite whats happened in the past between Mourinho and Liverpool.. if he were to ever end up as our manager he'd get the 100% backing that we give to everyone else.

Mourinho didn't slate the Liverpool fans or any other teams supporters did he? Slating players i can totally accept and let slip. Rafa once called Lampard overrated before a meeting between the two sides and i care **** all about that as he was just trying to win mind games and give his team an edge. But slating another clubs supporters is classless which every way you look at it.

Yeah because he is ******* world class that's why lol!

At last the FA do something decent! Hazard's 3 match ban will NOT be increased

Roy Keane once described United's fans in a similar vein, saying they 'have a few drinks and probably the prawn sandwiches, and they don't realise what's going on out on the pitch'.

I still love Roy Keane, probably even more so. You should only really have a problem with being called a plastic fan if it is, in fact, true.

Roy Keane is loved by your fans, he could have murdered a player on the pitch and you would still talk about him in a good light. Rafa has never been liked by Chelsea previously so why would it change now? Changing our mind makes us fickle.

Honestly, getting so defensive over a comment that has been twisted and taken out of context just makes everyone thing that you are indeed just a bunch of plastic fans that have nothing better to do that stick to your "us vs the world" attitude.
It's sad and rather pathetic, Rafa being appointed was the best you were going to get at a time where you had no one else to go for. Instead of giving him the slightest bit of support you slate him and demand he leaves instantly, do you not understand how that can have a huge impact on how HE affects the morale of the players? Who's going to want to listen to a manager who has fans chanting "**** off Benitez you're not welcome here" every chance they get.

He questioned your passion and instead of proving him wrong you proved him right.

Keane was a legendary player for you though, which is a bit of a difference.

How has it been twisted and taken out of context? Seriously.

The us vs the world thing is definitely an issue but it has nothing to do with being plastics so it's not really relevant.

How is he proving himself right? How is the fans' passion in any way linked to their loathing of Benitez? It's kinda funny because if we had accepted him with open arms, people would have accused us of being blind fanatics, willing to ignore his previous insults over an irrational desire to unquestionably agree with everything the club decides.

I don't see how reacting to a comment makes you a plastic fan.

1. Plastic fans are ones who support z club because they are winning at that time.
2. The best we would have got was sticking with our current manager!
3. He is paid thousands of pounds to motivate the players, pick the right formation, line-up and subs. Many managers have got slated by fans in the past and dealt with it.
4. He never had the players bar a few from day 1 anyway. What excuses have you got for his time at Inter?
5. Passion is being shown by us airing our discontent of the situation? We care about this football club and feel decisions like this are killing our club.

Plus you cannot blame supporters for any poor performance as i have proven time and time again that is bullshit.

Rafa isn't exactly your average manager.

That's up for debate mate. 2 years out of the game with average job offers only says everything. Like i keep saying constantly, has had great spells as manager but could be a case of right place right time. That does happen.

Not really true in Rafa's case though. He built a great side capable of challenging the big 2 with Valencia and created the best Liverpool side over the last 20 years with his transfer dealings. I disagree with a lot of his tactics and his bizarre obsession with sports science, but he's still a great manager.

Id say he was an average manager not great. Yes has done great things in the past but also failed at times too. Is a manager who does not learn from his mistakes too.
