Ever thought that Newcastle just had a great game?

We had a good game, yes. I felt Chelsea turned up expecting to win and that was the difference today, Chelsea showed no fight or desire, until they were 3-2 down, actually you have never been the side your were when Mourinho left!??? The days when even Manchester United feared you.

I say bring back Mourinho for you fans, however has a Geordie keep Rafa. ;)

Ba has broken nose, apparently, so i guess you're stuck with Torres, who's already been **** and will be exhausted on top of that. Gonna be lucky to finish in top 4.

Why the **** was Ivanovic played? Azpilicueta's been Chelsea's most important player recently, and Benitez swaps him out for Ivanovic? Santon and to a slightly lesser extent Debuchy showed the value of a couple of proper attacking full-backs today. Chelsea should look at the Newcastle deep two. When James Perch makes as many tackles as the entire Chelsea double pivot you know something's wrong, and the entire point of a pivot should be allowing the rest of the team to go and play. This is particularly important with Chelsea since they have so many brilliant attacking players, but Ramires and Lampard are primarily offensive players, not defensive ones.

Newcastle had a balanced team, with two offensive full-backs and three highly-offensive players counteracted by three hard-workers in the centre of the pitch. Chelsea, by comparison, had two offensive players supporting four even more offensive players. The fact that Ryan Bertrand could be described as the most defensively aware player in the entire Chelsea midfield is telling. Chelsea need Obi Mikel back, they need Victor Moses back, and Benitez needs to A) work miracles with a horribly imbalanced and thin squad and B) Not make stupid, simple mistakes like not playing Azpilicueta. I mean really, he adds Bertrand to give Chelsea more width, and then removes Azpilicueta for a sum total of **** all.

James Perch: 3 tackles, 4 interceptions, 5 clearances, 2 effective clearances.

Yohan Cabaye: 2 tackles, 6 interceptions, 2 clearances, 0 effective clearances.

Frank Lampard: 1 tackle, 1 interception, 2 clearances, 0 effective clearances.

Ramires: 2 tackles, 1 interception, 1 clearance, 0 effective clearances.

And B is the reason i have been slating him for weeks mate.

Absolutely embarrassing! I said revert to a 4-3-3 while key players are out! The day James Perch who is a right back bosses your midfield you know its not the right way to go about things!!!!

You must be thinking about a different Chelsea then because morale and expectation amung the fans was at an all time low before the game. I'd also say we showed fight and desire about 60mins in but after that players became tired and leggy and it needed changing. Luckily for you guys Rafa forgot he had two subs he could use!

But it's nowhere near enough reason to slate him to the level you do, and particularly when you consider that the major problem here is still Chelsea's incredibly unbalanced squad.

I'm plenty willing to criticise Benitez, but only when he deserves it. When you consider he was the one who made the decision to regularly play Azpilicueta in the first place I think he deserves a little leeway in this particular case.

Cool, let's play a formation that relies even more heavily on a proper midfield destroyer when we don't have one, that'll fix it!

I would have gone Marin for Bertrand personally. Pace and direct running at leggy tired defender gives us another option. He cannot use the unfit, tired or played too many games excuse when he does things like this. Totally contradicting himself. Terry looked so unfit from 70 minutes on, he should realise that as that is what he is paid for.

Marin? lol. Just no.

Eh, it was propably just rotation. Considering it was Rafa who promoted Azpli to the first squad to begin with,as well as the fact they're both spanish (matters more then you know), i cant imagine he would bench him just to **** around with the squad.

Also, yeah, can we please stop raging about the subs already? Rafa is slow with subs, yes. I think he suffers from information overload or something and just needs time to process the situation whereas SAF will often make split second decision without overanalysing.

Subs are Rafa's weakness, no doubt, but lets not overlook the fact that he has no bench whatsoever.

And Marin is literally about as useful as the bench itself. Should paint a number on your bench, dress it in Chelsea kit, send it on the pitch, place it vertically on the wing , and it would still do more impact than ******* Marin .

But a formation which suits both Ramires and Lampard rather than one that gets out played by ****** James Perch!!!!

Says who? Considering he has never had a proper chance especially from the bench. He reminds me of a certain Kalou, not great when starting games but could do something from the bench with his direct running etc. He would have gave us something different than an out of position, tired and leggy Bertrand 100%. There is a difference between being slow with subs and not making any at all! If he had no intention of using the players then don't name a bench, or name academy players at least they will get something out of the experiance.

two things cannot believe rafa didn't play Azpilicueta that was a massive mistake IMO, and second what did ashley cole get booked for? Howard Webb is nearly as baffling as Rafas refusal to make substitutions

How can you question Cole's yellow? He was booked because he let Papiss Cisse put his hands around his neck!

I have a hypothesis. The reason Rafa is still employed is because the board are waiting for a quick replacement. On the 13th February Man Utd take on Real Madrid in the 1st leg of their Champions League tie with Utd being away that day. We all know Madrid are only holding onto Jose because they still believe he is the man to win them the Champions League. If they get beat in the first leg which would make Utd massive favourites for the 2nd leg i suspect they will act instantly. That is when us and Madrid could do a manager swap if you will, Jose to us and Rafa to them? It's a mental theory but stranger things have happened.
