Looking towards the future though, I can't see AVB dropping the idea of a high-line. He seems to associate it with the new style (makes sense as it suits a passing game and seems to go with the rumours that Roman wants Barca esque play) so I think we'll see it return in January/the Summer. Terry+Cahill with a high-line sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

They'll be solid together this season though I think.

Exactly, and wondering why he buys Cahill when he loves the high-line? doesnt make sense ffs.

Anyway, I trust AVB as he may be having something on his mind, something that we cant see. Maybe he's bringing Gary for the only purpose of him playing as a backup, wouldnt be happy if so. Gary is a classy CB after all.

Seems as if the deal has hit a snag, more than likely over wages and im thinking his agent sences an opportunity to make some cash. GREED!!!!!

cahill should be a top signing for us alongside terry, not LUIZ. if we are to lose romeu back to barca a.v.b should surely try and groom luiz for the anchor man role. positionally he needs to learn but technically he is perfect, also in home games against sides parking the bus (Wolves, Wigan, Norwich, Swansea, Liverpool!! etc) he would be great as he clearly has an eye for creativity and the ability to split defences with passes for example the pass to drogba against fulham although did not lead to goal was top class

about this high line, although this will sound a little backward the centre halfs pace is not neccesarily a key skill to make this work. it is vital that the midfield and attack press high up squezing space, the only time our back four is exposed is when (i hate to say it) frank is in the side and especially MIKEL because these two are not good at pressing high up the pitch. Romeu, Ramires and Meireles are very good at doing this and it's no surprise results and performances picked up with these guys in midfield

Why not as a RB for a short term option?? More attaking than Ivanovic and can defend too. DM for Luiz is far to intellegent for him, he would be shocking at DM.

Agree he could play right back, he did at fulham on his debut last year and he looked class. think he started cb and moved over during the game. like i said technically he is perfect but positionally/decisions wise he needs works!! definately a rough diamond in this position in my opinion

Yer i remember him at RB against Fulham when he got man of the match and gave away a pen in the last min lol.

I would very much like to see Luiz at RB. He's a good passer, not sure about his crossing, got a good tackle on him and having composure/positional awareness doesn't seem to be much of a requirement for a FB these days lol. He'd do well surging up the pitch when Sturridge cuts inside.

I still think he can become a great CB if he gets a really intelligent partner. No offence at all to Terry, falling back on old stereotypes we're after a cultured European defender who can read the game well, get around quickly and over for Luiz. Terry is a rock and I'm sure that's the role that Cahill will fill but I feel we may need to invest in that 'cultured' player to give us the right balance.

not necessarily greediness, just business. If it was you there, wouldnt you ask for more money? :) Thats what he does after all, his job. I doubt it will be a huge problem the money. and tbh, Cahill deserves bigger salary than Kalou's thats for sure..

Oh i understand that point i really do. I just think maybe its Chelsea saying lower your price because we have other targets (when we clearly dont) and we will end up missing out on him and he will join a rival.

Nah, your only real rival would be Spurs, and they're not going to throw their wage structure overboard for Cahill. I'd say you've got him pretty much secured, although he's turned out to be a greedy ****, first because he doesn't give a rats **** about Bolton, and secondly because he's asking for higher wages... I'd be quite happy if you ditched him in favor of another defender and left him to rot for another 6 months.

Although i agree with some of your points i dont see how he dosen't care about Bolton. Lets be honest he can better himself and Bolton have a chance to cash in or lose him for nothing at the end of the season. He hasen't kicked up a fuss about wanting to leave either.

Yea i dont think Spurs will sign him either..

He just needs to understand that he is not a special buy, we have alternatives, and get a grip on reality, because we are not a club you want to extort(look what happened to that lil **** Joe cole) and realize that even if he doesnt sign, we are winners he is loser. He loses an opportunity big time in his career, we lose a greedy ******* which equals winning.

I hope he is not as dumb as joe.

Bolton's in the ******* and he's leaving midway through the season. He could've signed an extension and leave in the summer after helping them to retain top-flight status (Or not) yet he refused and intends to leave with the club far up **** creek. I don't think that's 'caring' for Bolton, the club that gave him the chance to be the player he is.

Every player deserves a big time chance in his career, a chance that would make or break his career totally. and we are giving him one.

HOWEVER, youre right about:

its not the right time for Bolton.

You miss my point, I'm all for Cahill joining Chelsea, but I think he should wait until the season's over, to see if he can save them from relegation. He should've signed an extension and transfer out in the summer - now he'll leave on a free unless he's sold now.

But he dosen't owe anything to Bolton at all. He has given them what 2-3 years of fantastic service breaking into the England side and really making a name for himself. If anything him leaving now is better for Bolton as they will get some money for him so they can sign a replacement and quickly move on.
