But he dosen't owe anything to Bolton at all. He has given them what 2-3 years of fantastic service breaking into the England side and really making a name for himself. If anything him leaving now is better for Bolton as they will get some money for him so they can sign a replacement and quickly move on.

I couldn't disagree more. Bolton gave him the chance to be who he is, of course, he's paid them back by playing well over the past years, but right now is probably when his club needs him the most and when he should stay to help them out. How is exactly losing him now 'better' for Bolton?

It's clear he's motivated by cash anyways, he's getting the chance to move to a better club and still he wants more money. Can't expect much loyalty from someone like that.

He isent the only player to hold out for more money (Rooney and Terry etc) and he wont be the last. His agent is proberly trying to get the best possable deal for himself and his client and Chelsea at times can be quite stuborn when it comes to things like this. Losing him now is much better for Bolton, he has not been at his best form this season as clearly his head was turned in the summer with the late Spurs bid. So Bolton will not only be getting cash insted of losing him for nothing but they will get a player who dosen't look happy out of their squad and 7mill to sign a player who wants to play for them.

Can you get a recognised, home grown, young-ish international defender to replace him for 7m while being Bolton? I doubt so. And just because players like Terry and Rooney are holding out for more money doesn't mean Cahill isn't greedy - it means the others are too.

They are greedy but they both could have got more money if they went elsewhere and didnt. Why would Bolton need a home grown young defender to replace him?? If anything in the position they find themselfs in they would be better off with an expirienced defender.

True, but would you rather keep Cahill for half a year (when he's been literally their worst centre-back this year) and lose him for nothing, or cash in now, have the chance to buy a replacement, and go from there?

And I don't think CJACKO was saying Cahill isn't greedy; merely that it's pretty much the norm, now.

My point was that, in the end, they're getting little money and losing a valuable asset, someone they won't be able to replace on the cheap.

You miss my point, GC, what I'm saying is that Cahill should've signed an extension, stay till the summer to try and save Bolton from the drop, and move then. Of course I'd rather get 7m now than lose him for free, that was never, ever argued. I'm criticising Cahill, not Bolton.

Why? It's easy to say that in his situation, we'd do the good thing, but frankly I think that if I was in his situation I'd do the same. He's got the opportunity to go to a top club who need a centre-back. Either that, or he stays at Bolton, continues to underperform in a shoddy team, possibly loses his international spot in the face of growing competition, and devalue himself for later. If he continues to underperform, he may never get this opportunity again. Certainly not if Chelsea buy someone else instead.

Cahill has given Bolton years of service and proberly would have wanted to leave in the summer but Bolton didnt want to sell. If anything it was Bolton playing the risky game of not cashing in just for the hope he will want to stay. Turns out he still wants to leave and now it suits both Bolton and Cahill to part ways.

Thought i'd ask Godcubed, as Bolton cant/wont be getting McEachran on loan and Villa are one of the clubs linked would you be happy to see him on loan at Villa Park?

Fact of the matter is, Cahill left Villa because O'Neill didn't play him. He joined Bolton in order to progress his career. He's given Bolton three years and over 120 appearances, and now when a big club has come calling he rightly wants to leave. He owes them absolutely nothing.

My god yes.

A young midfielder with an excellent touch and burgeoning vision, with something to prove in the Premier League? I'd love to have him at Villa Park. Both sides get a good deal: we get midfield reinforcements for six months, and we send you back a player improved in the manner of Sturridge and Wilshere.

Id be happy to see him at either Villa or Swansea. Swansea because no offence to them at all he would be a guarenteed starter every week and proberly be their best centre mid (although Allen and Britton have played very well indeed). And Villa because of the quality of teammates and he would proberly have to work harder to get games. Both sides i think play a decent brand of football which would suit him, Josh would release Agbonlahor so many times it would be stupid lol.

you'd ruin him just like you ruined Delph :'(

I don't know if we play a decent brand of football as such, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Battling in midfield would toughen him up: it did Wilshere at Bolton. You're right though, I imagine it would help him to have an attacking trio with the pace and movement of Gabby, Bent and Insomnia.

you'd ruin him just like you ruined Delph :'(

Sorry, I don't listen to supporters of formerly great clubs. :)

I agree with you on something - it's easy to say I'd do the right thing because I would do the right thing. I'm pretty sure I will never be in his position though. That said, he's holding out for more money, it's not like he's oh so glad a big club came knocking and is leaving to further his career. It's not like he's going to die of starvation with the average Chelsea salary - he's a greedy ******* as far as I'm concerned.

He owes them absolutely nothing.

Well I disagree. He is where he is because of Bolton, and if he's getting this chance to move on to better things it's because of Bolton.

As if. You think an inexperienced teenager with no more than 10 professional games is going to walk in to a premier league team and be a guaranteed starter? Have you watched Swansea this season? Allen, Britton and Gower are streaks ahead.

Not going to dispute that particular statement, but then again, he IS a footballer. He's not seemingly particularly grateful a big club has come for him, no, but he's no fool. He's playing a dangerous game, but if it pays off, it will do so both in funds and reputation.

Well I disagree. He is where he is because of Bolton, and if he's getting this chance to move on to better things it's because of Bolton.

Right, but Bolton have been paid back in impressive performances on the pitch for three years. They knew that he had the potential to go on to great things, and frankly if they thought he wouldn't push to leave after a while they're deluded and deserve everything they get.

Athe what you're saying makes it sound like that no player should ever leave their current club to join a big team. This could be Cahill's only chance for all we know, for the reasons GC stated. Blackburn made Phil Jones who he is today but do you blame him for going to Man Utd? no because he needs a bigger club to further his career and improve. I don't blame Cahill at all. Are these reports of the talks slowing down due to wages confirmed to be true?
