Does anyone else see the irony in CFC Callum using stats (in this case assists) to say that Modric isn't that good, and then when we point out how irrelevant that is, switch to his stance that "I don't use stats"?
It's also worth noting that Messi is also a provider. Was Barca's leading assist last season and leads the assists charts for Barcelona this season. So if you stop Xavi & Iniesta playing, chances are you will have Messi to be the provider. Dani Alves is key also, he is second behind Messi in assists.
Anyway, since Chelsea fans can't appreciate what Modric does for a team. Can United take him then, pretty please? £40m and everything!

Fans!!!! Its only one lol. He has a right to his own opinion lets not forget that.
Why don't we just all agree with me and put this to bed. Modric is a brilliant footballer but wouldn't we all rather see Chelsea give McEachran a run in the side who could take up that role perfectly??

Depends on whether you think Chelsea could cope without a truly quality regista in the time it takes McEachran to develop. That's up for debate, I think.

Tbh to pass on Luka would be a massive mistake and Chelsea would be kicking themselves. The guy is just immense. I'd say his only weakness is tackling and his physical presence. The price may be ridiculous etc but that's the price you pay these days for a player of his caliber. However, if Spurs make it into the CL the price would be probably be even higher-or he may simply not want to go.
when you think about it, I would give it a shot if i were the manager. the only thing Josh needs is time on the pitch. nothing else imo. So If we do manage to cope without a regista for the next (lets say) 2 seasons and let Josh develop in those seasons, it'd be perfect for Chelsea and Josh. and as you said saving 40m would be brilliant. We do have to spend it on a winger (if Mata stays AMC) though.
How does Messi get the ball if you stop Xavi and Iniesta? How does Alves? Alves gets the assist, because he gets a long diagonal ball from Xavi to the right. Without that, Alves cannot bomb forwards and pass inside. Messi drops deep to recieve the ball from Xvvi and Iniesta, without them, how can he get an assists? These guys assist the assisters. They are the players, particularly Xavi, who really pull the strings.
And if you miss CL in those 2 seasons? £40m for Modric suddenly looks like a bargain.

I just think if we signed Modric who lets be honest is not old it would stifle McEachran's chances of ever playing for this club. I have supported this club 16 years now and followed us closely and McEachran is the brightest player to come through our academy and that includes John Terry. I personally think he needs minutes and if given minutes he would adapt very quickly.

Thats a very good point you have made. Xavi is a big influence on Barcelona and the way they play. I'm just pointing out though that Barcelona have many, many players in the team who can pull the strings, no one as much as Xavi. Xavi will pull the opposition away all over the place and open up that space, he also has a very, very clever footballing mind. Never see Xavi play a long ball, always short. Iniesta is much more attacking than Xavi and has brilliant link up play with Barca's forwards.
Personally though, I don't think there is a complete way to stop Messi. If you man mark him or if you stand off him he will find the answers. The only way to stop him is to get 2 people on him but that leaves the space for the likes of Xavi to have all the space he needs. At one point in a match he will recieve the ball and all it takes is one little dribble from him to completely open up the game. Defenders will be drawn to him because of him pace and acceleration with the ball and leave other players unmarked or will not track them and Messi can just pick out a little **** over the top or a ball through the defence. His done that so many times this season and in many, many matches has pulled the strings.
Im not doubting your opinion because it's a very good point, I just think theres more to it than Xavi pulling the strings.
And thus we have the crux of the debate.
I'm unsure... I'd need to watch McEachran more closely and know much more about him to be able to make a decision. If I were Di Matteo, I'd have access to information such as reports by scouts and staff assessors to be able to properly gauge his talent. As it is, I don't, so I'd be unwilling to take the risk, personally. I'd rather spend £40 mil on Modric in order to make SURE I have a quality regista rather than risk McEachran. But, he may be very talented and able to cope with the spotlight, and save Chelsea the money. It's an interesting little question.
