I agree, that's what makes me think he will play the deeper role. Looking at several clips it looks as if he can play that role and very well and Fernando Duarte seems to think so too and he would know more than us. Seems like a more advanced regista though, can get forward and do damage aswell. Like i said in an earlier post imagine a forward line of Oscar, Hazard, Mata, Ramires and Torres coming towards you, it's getting me moist!

Haha true. That attacking force rapes everything on its way. We will have to wait for it to be confirmed, and then we should start studying him as a player. I already did though, but apart from a few youtube clips, he is still unknown to me.

Yer i watched a few clips and dug up a few articles about him and my opinion of him has changed the more i found out.

I was impressed by what Fernando said about him, and that he prefers him over the likes of Ganso and Lucas. That made me more interested in the player, and respectively more excited about his arrival.

Remembered stuff Tim Vickery said about him Friday night too stating he is currently the hottest prospect in the country.

oh, getting too much excited now, and that can be a bad thing sometimes, we should not get carried away, but as a fan, its impossible not to. It's your job to get excited about the arrival of the hottest prospect in Brazil. zzz

Hottest prospect in France - Check
Hottest prospect in Brazil - ????????

Looks like it's a great summer for us. We wouldn't be human if we didn't get excited about a potential arrival mate. I won't get carried away but that is something totally different.

True. Impossible not to.

Now the ultra boring waiting period...

With the amount of forward thinking players being linked/signed by us is there a chance we may see the Barca/Spain 4-6-0 (or 2-8-0 with real attacking fullbacks) at times next season?

Gotta admit you look like you'll be a force again this season. The league is going to be a "big three" (not a clue what order). Got a feeling you'll be playing with two amcs behind Torres, fullbacks for width. Di matteo seemed particularly keen on his fullbacks getting forward - Ivanovic particularly profited from it towards the end of the season in the league.

When/if Oscar is confirmed then we can have a very good side that can Challenge for the title next season, especially if Maicon arrives. If we do win the title, or any trophy in that matter, cue fans of other teams (Probably Liverpool fans) complaining that we bought trophies -_-

For some reason, lots of Liverpool fans complain about Chelsea's success.

Don't lol, you will start me off.

I'm excited to see Oscar, I love talents from South America coming to Europe. It's especially exciting because he's coming straight from Brazil rather than taking a detour to Italy or Spain first.

He could be an absolute flop but if you don't buy a ticket..

I think that was the initial plan Roman had in mind but this is very hard to replicate, hence the need for Guardiola or Del Bosque.

Dont mind what formation we line-up in tbh as long as its entertaining and gets results.

Oh, yeah, Ben Arfa is coming too. I almost forgot.

An excellent article on what Oscar can bring to Chelsea if he comes and his potential position- Written by the excellent Stephen Schmidt over at WAGHN. Link is here

Their is definitely a change in philosophy taking place at the club. From playing compact, stifling football and 'win at all costs' football it appears with the new signings that we are moving over to a more, expressive, fluid and attacking football under RDM.

All departures and major signings this window will likely be geared towards one aim- To create a 'young and hungry' team that will reach the top.

Telegraph also reporting we are back in for Schurrle and met Bayern Leverkusen again yesterday. Link is here

Dafuq is happening? lol

Discussed this some pages back. Would probably be seen only in Europe if at all

What I envision is Hazard playing the False Nine role which he has played before with midfield runners (Ramires, Lampard) and direct players from the wings (Sturridge) exploiting the space he creates.

Whether RDM is capable of pulling it off is another matter

Seems a huge gamble if Chelsea are intending to train him into a regista, which we are assuming they are as you have so many options going forward. Surely there are better alternatives for a similar/cheaper price who already have the ingredients to be a regista.

Oscar already has the ingredients to become a regista in the purest terms. Only difference between him and Strootman is that Strootman is already well familiar with the role while Oscar is not. He will have to make the transition which is by no means an easy thing to do but his natural skill-set suits a regista.

Strootman is also more of a hybrid creator/destroyer and a excellent player. But nowhere near as versatile as Oscar and will cost in the neighbourhood of 20m

Well I can see the Oscar deal being done myself, Internacional are keen to cash in on Oscar to free up his place in the team for Ganso who they're signing from Santos. All rather complicated but the 55% shareholder in Ganso is buying Santos' share in the player for around £5 million, they will then try to transfer his contract to Internacional with a fee probably in the region of £6 million. Santos are pretty much cutting their losses on him, he's on a big contract and he's spending half of his time on the injury table. The emergence of Felipe Anderson pretty much seals Ganso's fate, Porto tested the waters in January with a 8 million buyout on the 45%, if they offered that again Santos would take it but even Porto don't appear keen.

I'm pretty confident Oscar will be sold to someone this summer, it's clear Chelsea are identifying another central playmaker option along with a winger (Moura/Schurrle/Moses).

I do find it bizarre given the options in the central attacking position already, along with Piazon who is the future playmaker of the Chelsea team, but the only conclusion I can reach in regards to the reports that a fee is agreed between clubs this morning is Chelsea see him as an option in the attacking 3 behind a striker and also potentially a deeper playmaker.

I'm not too sure anyone will go in for Modric, Chelsea are smart enough to realise he's not worth upwards of 35 million pounds and there is more fiscally responsible in the long term options out there.

The lack of movement at RB is pretty staggering, think it reflects on the real lack of options out there at the moment. If Van Der Wiel took his career a bit more seriously over the past 2 years it would be a shoe in for me that he'd join but where he's at at the moment I just can't see it. Maicon just will not happen especially in the world of FFP with the money you'd have to tie up in him it's just a non starter, Debuchy is the only hyped RB available out there.

Vitor Gomes tailed off last season Pereira's already moved to Valencia, the lack of options is definitely a concern if we were to want a RB.

But I mean this summers targets shouldn't really surprise everyone, it was well known last summer Chelsea tried to sign Sanchez for the attacking right position and Alvaro Pereira along with failed bids for Modric and others.

The targets this summer are the same as the last which in my book shows the change in emphasis at the top of Chelsea from 6 years ago where they would have paid 15-20 million on Marin last summer instead of being patient. Like I said I expect Oscar to be sold to Europe, whether or not it comes to be Chelsea I can't say for sure. Moura is one people should keep an eye on, his agent came out with some quotes blowing smoke up Chelsea/United to try and bait Inter into upping their offer but the stories this morning are all about Chelsea and United 'delegations' holding talks about Moura.

I think the reality in Brazil is, if they are ever going to get big money from Europe for their players it will be now before the UEFA rules fully kick in. The market in Europe is just readjusting to FFP so the clubs aren't sure what to sell players at the best bets for players this summer is from Brazil. The likelihood is clubs like Sao Paolo/Internacional will never get 20-30 million pound offers for their players within the next 3 years at least so it does make good sense to sell them now especially when they know they can replace them for a fraction of what they sell them for.

Was reading an article today on Oscar and found an interesting excerpt-

Oscar and Modric are examples of, as Jonathan Wilson puts it, a new breed of playmakers: fantasistas.

Rather than being the deep-lying regista or the attacking trequirista, they are a tactical blend – operating naturally as prompters at the halfway line with an element of tactical discipline, yet are also known for their free-roaming across the final third of the pitch.

Good broad description of the roles Modric and Oscar play. Neither of them are the old, conventional #10s like Juan Roman Riquelme was but neither are deep-lying regista's either. I was certainly surprised to see the number of positions Oscar popped up on the pitch for Brazil in the friendlies- At Times right in front of the back 4, on the wings or even right behind the striker

This goes someway into explaining why you feel Oscar seems to be a more 'advanced' regista.

Also apparently the club is looking to loan Nathaniel Chalobah to a Championship team who is willing to give him regular playing time as a Central Defender/Defensive Midfielder. Good choice. I think he is ready to make the step up to the next level and play 'serious and competitive' football rather than waste time playing in the NextGen series or U-21 League

Thats already the Italian phrase for a tricky winger or a skillful midfielder, who can open up defences.... Not a new breed of playmaker.
