I realise how much money you have, and i realise who your striking options are and i stick by my original opinion.

Cavani is overrated and overpriced

I'm very torn on Cavani. Part of the reason he's been only good and not stellar as befitting his price has been because he's been shunted out onto the right, a position he technically plays but in reality is pretty pants at. He made or scored a goal 7 times in 16 starts on the right, compared to 8 in 11 when played as an actual striker.

We know from his Napoli days that Cavani's a properly good top class all-round forward. It's whether he can recapture that form is the key, and if he can then he is most definitely worth both the acclaim and the money.

I dont claim to have watched him week in week out - its usually the Champions League / World Cup / the odd game i tune in involving PSG and on each occasion (perhaps 10-15games) he has been hugely underwhelming

For 40mil+ and 150-200k a week+ i would expect a lot better

Cavani is a quality player but I just can't fathom having three different strikers earning more than 150k p/w ... It's a pretty dumb way to spend the money we have

His versatility is a draw back for him.

He was played as CF for Napoli and he scored more than 100 goals in 3 seasons. That's just unbelievable strike rate if you are not Messi or Ronaldo.

Same for Uruguay, Suarez plays as #9, so Cavani usually is shunted to the wing because of his work rate. He is an excellent player but only if you play him as #9.

“To have Diego, (Fernando) Torres and (Didier) Drogba as our strike force is something that gives us different qualities. We are really strong in that position now.”

Well sounds like Jose is happy.... I'd love to know what qualities Torres brings. I really fail to see how 3 strikers is going to be enough unless he promotes a youngster.

Booked my ticket and train travel for burnley away after alot of agg doing it! If there's one thing I don't miss about the football season it's booking the tickets and travel!!!

Yep Jose is definitely not going to be making any moves in the market despite sitting on a £300m war chest ... Can't help but believe him here

I also think after his comments on Shaw its a little hard to justify. Though having made 25m, can see why 40m fee isnt putting them off I'll be amazed if Cavani wants to turn up to play the 20-30 max appearances Lukaku would have got.

Yep can't see Cavani coming either ... Don't think their is too much substance behind this

Problem is I don't think he's that versatile, he just used to play as a right winger so people assume he's capable there. Versatility implies you're effective in a range of positions, which Cavani isn't, not really.

Unlike Suarez, who really IS quite versatile, but he's too good to be put wide. Shame.

It's Mourinho. Just assume whatever he's saying is a lie.

You think Jose cares about justifying his actions, or indeed irony in any of its forms? Mourinho called Wenger a specialist in failure and then ended the season with fewer trophies than him, but I really doubt he cared.

Yeah, please don't believe anything he says. Everytime he says transfer window is over a transfer happens.

Torres has been playing out wide playing from a little deeper in pre-season so far and has looked okay actually. Dom Solanke will be staying and training with the 1st team.

This ^^^^^ Jose is a self confessed liar!

Yeah, did you see that ridiculous flick up and semi-rainbow backheel volley pass he did in one of the preseason games? He's still got a bit of flair in him.

I think he's link-up play has always been decent and one of the reasons he is never in the box is because he tends to operate deeper anyway so i can see why Jose is trying him out there. Schurrle can also play as a false 9 and did okay there last season for us.

We need pure goal scoring strikers Carl. I don't care if Torres is decent at playing out wide. We have beasts for those positions.

His link-up play is very average imo ... Also if everything does go to **** and we are forced to go down the false nine route, Fabregas is well suited to that role. Schurrle is more of a conventional forward if played as a striker rather than a false nine
