I've watched the replay And it looks like Gerrard and Carrick both had a chance to win the ball. Yellow card at most

You are wrong. Yes he went in with his studs up, but he didn't make much contact, and there was no 'excessive force'. Should have been a yellow and a talking to this early in the match.

Rafael's tackle was nowhere near as bad as Gerrard's Alex come on, be real.

Rafael won the ball 100% and was barely off the floor. Gerrard didn't win the ball and got Carrick's ankle. He was way off the floor and both studs were showing.

I dont see why everyones commenting on how early in the match it was. The time of the game shouldn't effect the refs decison, 1st minute or 90th minute hes got to givethe same decison.
