ENGLAND TAKE SECOND TEST 3-1

England have secured a 3-1 victory in the second Ashes test after a 3-1 win in the final game of the series, a match that was littered with controversy and incident.

The match nearly started on a sour note for England, as Arjen Robben got his head onto an excellent cross from Leighton Baines, but David De Gea held the effort well. Australia were searching for that victory that would give them a draw in the test, and came close again when Thiago Silva headed against the crossbar following a Baines corner. Robben came close again in the 23rd minute when his shot from just outside the 6 yard area was well saved by De Gea following a free kick situation. England were to strike the first blow in controversial fashion however, when Thomas Muller collected the ball just inside the area before going down rather easily following a challenge from Thiago Silva.

A very confident Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to the spot, and buried his penalty in the bottom left corner to give England a 1-0 lead.

England almost doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Muller set up Arturo Vidal on the edge of the area from a corner, who saw his first time effort superbly tipped wide by the flying Manuel Neuer, much to the disgust of England boss Craig Lucock. Neuer's efforts proved to be a turning point, when Australia equalised just a moment later when Lionel Messi jinked past a challenge from Sergio Ramos before beating De Gea at his near post.

England would regain the lead on the stroke of half time however, when Toni Kroos squared the ball to Sergio Aguero, whose first time effort struck Baines before finding the back of the net and giving England a 2-1 lead, despite furious offside appeals from the Australian players

Australia nearly made a perfect start to the second half when Robben took the ball inside Jordi Alba before firing off an effort, only to be once again denied by De Gea. Baines had a chance to equalise in the 49th minute when he beat both Muller and Lahm to get into the area, but his effort was tame and easily saved by De Gea. Robben had a half chance in the 55th minute, but his effort from the edge of the area also lacked power, and De Gea held easily.

England had a golden chance to double their lead a moment later when James Rodriguez found Aguero on the penalty spot, but his effort was superbly saved once again by Neuer. Australia immediately counter attacked, and Messi ran from just inside the England half to the edge of the area, before hitting his effort just over the bar.

Australia, whose manager Patrick Ibrahimovic at this point had already brought on Eden Hazard, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba in an attempt to secure a victory, were reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute when Pablo Zabaleta received a second yellow card for a trip on Rodriguez.

They weren't at a numbers disadvantage for too long however, as Lionel Messi made in roads once again into the England half in the 74th minute, before being upended by Javier Mascherano, who also received his marching orders for two yellow cards.

England still pushed for another goal however, and almost got it when Rodriguez teed up Kroos, but his shot was again well saved by Neuer. They got their 3rd goal of the day in the 82nd minute when Aguero escaped from the watch of Thiago Silva before striking a volley past Neuer into the net.

This led to England manager Craig Lucock taking drastic measures to attempt to keep a hold on his 2 goal lead, substituting the hero of the day Aguero for Andres Iniesta, and going strikerless for the remaining minutes of the game. Australia tried desperately to salvage the game and came close when Messi slipped in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but he was a little wide and his effort was easily held by De Gea. Messi was again causing problems, and in the 86th minute he gave Hazard a half chance, but the angle was too narrow for him to beat De Gea at his near post.

Just a minute later, Baines floated in a free kick toward the near post which was met by Thiago Silva, who once again struck the crossbar with a header, leaving Lucock visibly relieved as England went on to win the game and secure a victory in the second test to level the series at 1-1.

Commiserations again to Patrick by the way, the game was very even, and a 2 goal win flatters us a little. Australia had more clear cut chances than we did, we were just that little bit more clinical, he lost a player in a key position after making all of his subs which was a cruel blow, a very entertaining game overall though, and i'm very happy to have came out of it with a win.

COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Congrats to the Poms i suppose...

Will get the summary & next test fixtures up at some stage today. :)

Thanks mate, I felt it could have gone either way, Thiago Silva was a massive let down at both ends of the pitch! But can't complain about the result, your side was much more clinical!

If Lippo thinks that will stop me.

A stunning start to the third test match sees everything all square after an impressive 90 minutes of football. Australia got off to the perfect start, with their first 3 shots converted. Messi opened the scoring in the first minute, before Modric got the 2nd in the 9th. Neymar parted the English defence to score in the 15th.

England were in disarray. However, they invoked the ancient spirit of Stuart Broad to give them guidance, and changed to a 4-4-2 after 15. Carvajal and Reus were hauled off after 24, with Lahm and Muller coming on in their place.

It worked immediately, Kompany scoring from a corner in the 17th minute to give England a shout. Baines followed this up with a moment of utter madness, upending Aguero. Vidal gleefully smashed the penalty past the helpless Neuer.

Aguero got further revenge, as a shocking attempt at playing football by Thiago Silva slotted the striker through, who calmly finished off the move, and levelled up the match.

The first half ended with England on top, but the second half was all about the Aussie onslaught. English keeper David De Gea proved he was a keeping god though, keeping out shot after shot. He ascended to the heavens, the two teams share the points. A worthy contender for the opening game.

All credit to Yeti for a superb match, probably the game of the series so far!
