SEPTEMBER REVIEW

September saw the football really get underway, as the Group Phases of the Champions League began. Schalke are still challenging on two fronts, with the Bundesliga and Champions League still marked on the calender in Ebbe Sand's office.

Schalke also confirmed two future signings, with Brazilian Midfielder Cicero agreeing terms with the club, joining next July. Also Louis Pedro signs from Feyenoord next July.

Matches

A late start to the month, due to International games gave the teams a chance to rest, and pick apart their previous performances. Schalke had Europe on their mind however, and may have cost them dearly.

Champions League
AFC AJAX 2-2 SCHALKE - Baumjohann(37), Dani Aquino(52, pen)

Baumjohann scored a stunner

A good draw away from home for Schalke. Ajax started well, with Korean striker Suk putting them ahead. Alexander Baunjohann scored from a 25 yard free kick. Just after the interval, Dario Cvitanich scored a close range strike, before Dani Aquino scored a debatable penalty.

STUTTGART 1-1 SCHALKE - Farfan(52)

Scored and important equalizer.

Another tough away trip for Schalke, and again came away with a credible draw. Raul lost the ball from the kick-off, on which Cacau pounced, taking it around two Schalke players, and slotting home. 7 minutes after half-time, Farfan struck to give Schalke a point.

DFB-Pokal
GLADBACH 2-0 SCHALKE

Bradley - the star of the show

Schalke decided to turn out a second string side, with the Bundesliga and Champions League deemed more important. The host's full-strenght side took advantage of the visitors, with Michael Bradley scoring twice.

SCHALKE 3-1 FREIBURG - Farfan(8), Hasebe(69), Helder Postiga(86)

Farfan - set Schalke on their way.

Schalke got back to winning ways, with a dominant result against Freiburg. Jefferson Farfan finished a fantastic counter attack to give the hosts the lead. Metzelder was sent off after only 12 minutes for a professional foul on Barth. Abdessadki broke through just before half time to equalize for Freiburg. Then, Barth was sent off after a second yellow. Schalke came out after the interval all guns blazing. Makoto Hasebe continued his fine form with a fantastic 30 yard drive, before Portugal striker Helder Postiga finished the game after 86 minutes.

Champions League
SCHALKE 2-1 WISLA KRAKOW - Raul(5, 90+2)

Raul showed world-class finishing

Schalke ended their month with an important win in the Champions League against Wisla. Raul was the star, with two well-taken goals. The first was a well-taken glancing header after 5 minutes. Pawel Brozek equalized after 31 minutes, but it was Raul who stole the show, with a clever finish late in 2nd half stoppage time.

Player of the Month
Another decent month, with some players really standing out. For me, there is only one, who has been consistent, reliable and overall very good. That is Japan's Makoto Hasebe -

Players
Here a quick overview of how my players are performing so far. Jordi Alba, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Ivan Rakitic have not started very well, whereas Christoph Metzelder, Makoto Hasebe and Jefferson Farfan have started promisingly.

Yeah, there are so many teams at a similar level to them, and I have had a fair few injuries too. Challenging, but fun.

yea the german league is hard :) but you 2 seem to be doing alright what formations you using? for me i always use a formation that attacks through the middle and holds the ball stops them from getting chances and playing through the middle just seems more deadly to me :)

I use a well-tested, special 4-4-2, with AMR/AML. Generally play a fairly slow, short passing game, breaking down the opposition, which seems to work well for me.

Nice update! :) I'll be following this one for sure.

lovely stuff guys again. that loss against gladbach is unlucky, they're my bogey team as well, knocked me out at the semis in the pokal last year n all :\ keep it up!
and do you play any of the youngsters, ie matip, moravek, kenia, because they are class. when lewis holtby comes back next year from loan you will have a world class player on your hands!

not just yet, once I get some momentum they will figure. Kenia is at Lille on loan, has played around 7 games so far in the league, which will be good for him. I turned out my backup and reserves for Gladbach, so hope I do better in league against them:P

haha oh fair enough then, kenia becomes awesome. how are you getting on with pander at left back by the way because personally I found him a liability?
