The Idea – An Very Uncommon Tactic
I wanted to create a tactic; one I hadn’t seen before (correct me if I’m wrong). Something, as far as I’m aware, is completely new.
I created all the roles myself (so don’t just look at the roles seen here and expect them to be anything like what they should be on individual instructions), nothing has been left as default and it does not employ any specialist set pieces.
I won’t beat about the bush any more. Here is the formation:

As you can see the backline is anything but normal. But I want to tell you more about the tactic so you can get a feel of it, then I will go into individual roles. The roles shown on the screenshot show what I think is the most similar role to the one I have set them out to play.
The Essence of the Tactic
Fluid, pacey, passing football. A high line and width but with focused passing through the middle so the flanks are only used to catch the opposition by surprise. A high defensive line with a unique (to my knowledge) marking system to not only put high pressure on the opposition but to also provide plenty of cover if that line is broken.
The Defence
I haven’t ever seen anything like this before (correct me if you can

The Midfield
An evolution on the creator/passer/destroyer combo. At Centre Midfield, one sits and destroys and one has licence to go forward and get beyond the Attacking Midfielder. The Attacking Midfielder is the creator. The wingbacks provide an injection of width.
The Attack
The Strikers will pull wide and create space in the heart of opposition defence whilst still maintaining a massive goal threat. The swop positions regularly to baffle their markers.
The Roles/Duties
Now you’ve had a little taste of what the tactic will do, lets get more specific.
Goalkeeper
The only position that hasn’t really been tampered with. As far as I’m concerned he has two roles. Keep the ball out of the back of the net and start quick attacks. No specialist player needed here. Just a good keeper with good distribution.
Centre Backs – The ‘Double Sweeper System’
The job of these guys is to mop up anything that come through from the opposition. They both act like two sweepers for the defensive line in front of them with their zonal marking. They will cover the wingbacks when they go forward and will be joined by the ‘Reverse Libero’ (or DM) who acts as a covering CB for them when they get pulled out wide. The ‘Double Sweeper’s’ get the ball safe and don’t take too many risks but also have lots of passing options.
Defensive Midfielder – The ‘Reverse Libero’
Think of the Libero, the guy that sits just behind the centre backs and sweeps up but also looks to get attacking play started. Now instead of having him behind the defence, put him just in front of it and you have a Reverse Libero. He roams the space just in front of the Double Sweepers and immediately attacks anyone coming attacking through the centre of the pitch. If the ball is wide he either covers a drawn out CB or (if the wingback is back) marks the danger in the middle. I possession he will step out of defence more and look to receive the ball and give it to the attack or play it simple through a variety of passes. In essence he is both a high Ball Playing Defender and a very defensive Deep Lying Playmaker.
Wingbacks – The ‘Flying Full Backs’
The wingbacks are the fittest players in the team…they have to be. Not only will they provide the width going forward, bagging plenty of assists, but they will work their butts of getting back to defend as they are required to man mark the oppositions wingers. They are both you wingers and your full backs in different situations. Right footer on the Right, Left of the Left. Have good cover in these positions because they will get tired.
Right Centre Midfielder – The ‘Destroyer’
A tough tackling midfielder who looks to play it simple and give it to the more creative players in the team. Takes no nonsense and no prisoners. Will rarely get forward but does the dirty work in covering the ‘Box-to-Boxer’s attacking runs.
Left Centre Midfielder – The ‘Box-to-Boxer’
The real engine in midfield. Will bomb past the AM to take advantage of the space created by the forwards but also work hard to get back and defend. A modern day box-to-box midfielder who can do a bit of everything. I'd suggest he is left footed but not essential.
Attacking Midfielder – The ‘Creator’
Will look to find space in between the opposition’s defence and midfield, receive the ball to feet, and create a chance. He will very rarely get beyond the strikers.
Strikers – The ‘Poacher and the Prey’ Combo
These two players regularly switch positions and roles to give problems to anyone trying to mark them. One striker (the ‘Prey’) will drift wide creating holes in the opposition defence for the midfield and poacher to exploit. The ‘Prey’ striker will also look to receive the ball and create, as well as beating a man when he needs to and scoring goals. The ‘Poacher’s role is to exploit the space. He will occasionally find himself out wide to create space and chances, but will mainly operate as the team’s main goal threat.
Match Preparation
I use High/No Specific Focus all the way through the season. As ever, the higher the fluidity the better the tactic will work.
Training
I use http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/foot...ics-training/84281-duncs-training-fm2012.html
Also train players immediately so they become natural in their desired position.
*word of warning* – this is what I use. Any other combination of match prep and training may not work as well. High match prep takes up 40% of their training regime, so that’s 40% of whatever workload they are on for their schedule. If you use a different training schedule, it will be 40% of whatever that one’s workload is so training might not work as well as, or better than, it does for me.
Pitch Size
Can’t remember what I set it as but I’m using a pitch that’s 127 yards by 83 yards
Shouts
Never tried using them with this. All the individual instructions are set to what I want them to be and I’m not sure if shouts will alter them.

Version Created On – 12.2.2
This is an unusual tactic and requires players who will fit it. Position training could be essential and this may affect the affectivness of the tactic for the first half of the season.
I will post feedback in the OP as testimonials
Please do get back to me. Hope to hear from you soon
