He will never know what to say and what not to.

Hahaha, brilliant. He'll be on TV in an Everton shirt next...

Edit*

To be fair I've just read the next two tweets he sent out:

"Liverpool fans are amazing but I hope Sterling will play at his best because he deserves it. Hes a good guy, young and talented...support him like you always did. He gave everything to this club and respects it so I am sad to see this. YNWA, Liverpool is a family ALWAYS"

(two tweets combined)

And that again just encapsulates what's so wrong with today's generation of fan.

The club's are a separate issue. It's major business now far more than mere sport. So their priority is a top 4 finish. Regardless of whether they win the title or not. Just getting in the top 4 is all that matters. A completely *** backward approach but that's what the Champions League riches have brought about sadly.

But for a 'fan' (and you haven't directly said this, but many do) to be happier with a top 4 finish over winning a trophy absolutely blows my mind and goes completely against what being a fan should be all about. Kenny lost his job back in 2011-12 after winning one domestic trophy, and losing the other in a final we never should of; but missing out on the Champions League places. Yeah, that league campaign was shockingly bad with an 8th placed finish. But as a fan, give me the two great weekends out I had again down at Wembley and the chance of actual silverware over no final day out/ trophy but a top 4 placing ANY day of the week.

It's the same with those that didn't want to be in the Europa Lge this year because that's been totally downgraded in England and is treated with complete contempt here in relation to the Champions League. This club is ALL about European competition. But people would rather not be in it because it's not the Champions League and it's embarrassing to be playing on Thursday night et all.

The above two attitude examples are so foreign to me and what the very ethos of being a fan is/ should be ALL about I can't begin to tell you.

You see, you can completely flip it. You say you are happier with a poor-ish trophy than a top 4 finish. But top 4 finish brings more money to club and money helps to push club forward. So if you say you are happier with a not very good trophy, I can say you are selfish and don't care about the club, but just about your feelings when the club wins.

P.S. I don't mean no offense, just flipped your logic of who's good and who's wrong football fan.

No offence taken at all. And it's an interesting debate on just what the purpose, for want of a better term, of being a fan is all about.

You're an Arsenal fan right?

Where's the last 10 years of top 4 finishes gotten you? Out the first knockout round of Europe more or less every year and still nowhere near challenging. But the last two years, winning the Cup. How brilliantly better has that been for you as a fan? That excitement of Cup final day and the shear pride in your team winning it?

Great line I'm reminded of when a former director most won't of heard of, Tony Ensor, resigned the Sunday after the season ended back in '94 when everyone thought Souness, who hadn't been at the last game, would be sacked. He wasn't, Tony walked in disgust; and we had to suffer through another Cup embarrassment the following year going out to lower league opposition again at home to Bristol City before he was finally axed. It was a Shankly quote that is still the ethos of the club to many of us: 'Liverpool Football Club exists not to make money. It exists to win trophy's and be a source of pride to our fans. It serves no other purpose.'

To most reds, that's of the utmost importance. Yeah, we aren't naive enough to know success in football doesn't happen without money. And the main cash cow today is the Champions League. A competition we know more about than anyone. ****, we only look up to 2 clubs in Europe and have a World wide reputation in large part due to our exploits in Europe's top competition. But that should NEVER be more of a priority than winning trophy's. It just shouldn't.

As a fan, you want to be entertained. That's the first thing. Football always was, and still should be, the release at the end of the working week to escape from it all for a few hours on a Saturday and be totally immersed in your team. And you then naturally want to see your team win. And ultimately, you want to see them win trophy's. Ot else what's the point in playing the game and supporting your team at all? That holds even more true in today's game than ever before for me the ridiculous amount of hard earned money we fork out.

What's been more enjoyable to you?

Arsenal from '05 through '13. Content with a top 4 finish that ultimately leads nowhere the next year and no silverware?

Or Arsenal of the last 2 years doing the same but winning the cup and Charity Shield? Three big says out at Wembley and your team picking up a trophy.

And I know the flip side is you've been in the Champions League all those years as opposed to the quoted example of winning the League Cup and not being. But I'm pretty sure if you said to most Arsenal fans going into 2013-14 after 8 LONG trophy less season's that you'd guarantee them the FA Cup but finishing 5th in the league the majority would of snapped your hand off.

Because that's the whole ethos of being a fan. Or else what's the point?

Each to their own, but anyone that would be happier with a top 4 finish and no silverware over actually winning something is so foreign a concept to me I honestly don't understand what enjoyment they're deriving from following their club.

I'm with Scouse. At the end of the day, the Champions League brings in the money to help buy new players but as last season showed the best players still choose other clubs (Eg. Sanchez). Getting Champions League didn't help us keep Suarez either.

Yes money talks in football, however trophies talk louder. Players can pick from a lot of Champions League team, but they're aren't many teams that are guaranteed title challengers and favourites for the cup and those that are often have a head start on getting the very best.

Also people can say they are happy to get top 4 but we don't see the scenes we were seeing a couple of seasons ago, during the title race. Fans were singing in the streets, fighting each other to get to the front of the crowd to catch a glimpse of the Liverpool coach go past and generally just making the team truly believe they were on to something big. It was incredible. You don't see that for 4th spot.

Strange strange transfer that unless Liverpool are going to change their style, I rate Benteke I really do but Liverpool will not be making the most of him IMO playing the way they do. Him and Sturridge (when fit) could be very interesting up front tho I feel.

I find it hard seeing Rodgers changing style, he has all the right type of players to play the style of play they were playing last season. Will be interesting though.

Welcome Christian.

I may not agree with the move from various angles, but here's hoping you have a long and successful career in red.
