If you guys could have 1 former Liverpool player back in the current team, who would you pick?

Luis Suarez. In the brief time he was here, he was the best player I have seen in a Reds shirt

Probably an unpopular opinion but also the Michael Owen of 2001 would be very high on the list

No shout for Fowler or Torres then? :P

This is SO tough as there's SO many that would vastly improve this team. Outfield I'd go Barnes or Kenny, but ultimately, with all the great attacking options we now have you look at the weakest area of the current team that's the most vulnerable.

So Ray Clemence. Not only L'pool's and one of England's greatest ever goalies, but arguably there's never been anyone better at organising a defence in front of him. All of which would VASTLY improve the current shambles back there.

I f***ing love Jordon Ibe! Even if talent wise he never matches Sterling, his attitude makes him worth so much more. He openly acknowledges he needs to improve his end product, and does everything he can to achieve that, instead of claiming to be the finished product and asking for more money. Such a great mentality!

Think it's pretty impossible to pick just one player. Growing up as an Everton supporter since 83, I've had the pleasure of seeing players like Phil Neal, Hansen, Souness, Rush etc ripping not just others apart, but us too. Sounds odd for a rival supporter to use the word "pleasure" but you HAD to appreciate the quality they had as a fan of football. It was a squad full of sheer quality and ingenuity.

So IMO it's just nigh on impossible to pick just one

Torres without doubt has been my favourite Liverpool player, I loved the guy.... I just happened to see Luis Suarez at Anfield as soon as he left and it was almost like he was the next level up

I'd probably rank it Suarez > Torres > Owen ... But I am a fairly young fan at 21 so that would probably be expected

Also seems Joe Gomez is set to start at Left Back against Stoke... Not his natural position but credit to him for earning a place

Very magnanimous of you.

FWIW, I still think you were the better side in '86.Little consolation as yers won nottin', but bar our late run-in to the double Everton were the better side playing far better football that season for me.

Where it get's skewed, and maybe makes the above sound contradictory; is all the bitterness that came out of Heysel the previous year and has remained with many blues since that what happened that fateful night in Brussels somehow stopped Everton's impending European/ World domination ..... That same title winning side from 1985, with the addition of the top English striker of the time, still finished runner-up in both league and cup the following year.

That said, it was a travesty that side never got to grace the European Cup through the ban as that mid-eighties side Kendall assembled was a wonderful team. That side and Goodison bouncing like the '85 CWC semi against Bayern and who knows where'd you now be?

Really miss those times when the derby's had National significance yer know and not just local pride in what is still, trophy wise, England's top football City. Sighs.

If he starts on Sunday I'll be ecstatic.

And not worried in the slightest that he'll handle the massive step up from the get go.

So high on him I can't tell yer.

Sport Witness @Sport_Witness Marca say Sport were wrong and Adama Traore is likely signing for Aston Villa, not Liverpool. http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/aston-villa-beat-liverpool-west-ham-and-stoke-to-mega-signing …

As much sense as it makes, not a big fan of new guys stepping in and getting the captaincy/ vice straight out the gate. Would much rather of Skrtel got it.

Im of the same opinion... It could show just how much leadership we lack in the squad that a new player has come in and immediately got it

Still pretty 'meh' on our overall chances this year, but if we click we've certainly as much attacking potential as our 'friends' down the road for 4th and today's 'keeper confirmation is a great leveller.

Yep. I'm not super confident but if the likes of Coutinho, Firmino, Ibe, Sturridge, Benteke etc click then not many teams will be able match is from an attacking point of view

Should be exciting again if nottin' else.

And with the ages, it's a pretty solid (if back to front. Or front to back depending on how you look on it :P) base to build off next summer which will surely be a defensive window. I don't know if Rodgers will be here to see it through but the next 5 years or so could be real exciting times.

I am just looking forward to the inevitable reaction this time Sunday afternoon. This thread will be either livid and very active or quiet and happy

here's hoping it's the second one
