Honestly don't feel for him at all Pat,
The club had completely and utterly stagnated under him. From the players through the supporters. Going the match was just NO fun anymore. Nobody went expecting to win. Regardless of WHO we were playing. (Carlisle pre-game was a glaring, recent disgraceful example.).
He continually played players out of position. Persisted with his favourites no matter how **** poor they were. Came up with a multitude of ridiculous, desperate formations that not only changed game-to-game, but often during frigging games. His stubbornness was off the charts. That tweet above about Allen encapsulates all that was wrong with his tenure. The decision to not replace Mingolet alone two seasons running defied belief. Making Henderson the captain in a team desperately searching for leaders was moronic in itself. And the utter embarrassing bollocks he was coming out with to the media was cringe worthy.
Too many are getting duped by '13/'14 when you could well justifiably argue he cost us the league as close as he came to winning it. Both in his bollocks tactics and substitutions the last three. And his complete neglect of setting up the team defensively at any point that year to aid a career year from Suarez and fit Sturridge for the vast majority of it. 53 goals we conceded. With the career year Suarez had we should of had the league locked up before the Chelsea bollocks if he gave a **** about defending.
He'd sent the fans to as equally low ebb as what Hodgson had and Anfield in particular was a horrible place to go watch football this season with the absolute boring tedium he put out.
No sympathy for him at all. I'll thank him for the roller coaster of '13/'14 as he was the manager. (As much as I blame him for costing us #19.).
But the rest of it has been pretty consistent carnage.
Good riddance.
I can see your point I guess, I just feel that there were plenty of factors stacked against him - the transfer committee, key injuries - and the 13/14 season was fantastic, and he does deserve a great deal of credit for that. I think the malaise that set in last season wasn't entirely of his making, although I think it was the West Brom and Hull City games where I finally started to think that maybe he wasn't the man for the job, not so much because of the results, but because I could not for the life of me understand some of the selections and the tactics.
That was what did it and I felt that it would have been best for him to be moved on at the end of the season, but I think some of the blame has to fall on FSG for allowing things to continue into this season, which leads to more and more hatred being built up for a man that I believe truly tried his best for the club, and felt that he was capable of leading us forward, and I think that with a little more luck he could have. I do believe that parting ways is best for all parties, but I think Rodgers has been made to look far worse than he actually is, and I think he's going to be very successful at another club some time soon.
I'm excited at the prospect of Klopp or Ancelotti though, make no mistake. Hopefully players like Firmino, Moreno, Sakho and Benteke can flourish under whoever the new manager is - Benteke in particular is one I couldn't really see fitting into Rodgers' system. As for Mignolet, he was brilliant yesterday and on his day he is a very good keeper, but I do agree that we should be looking for an upgrade. Leno or Horn anyone? I'm also optimistic that the new man might look to sign an upgrade on Skrtel, as well as a defensive midfielder! And I'm hoping Markovic gets a real chance next season.
As for Henderson, it seems pretty clear to me that we're a far better team with him than without him, and I think he was the best choice for captain - maybe other than Sakho, who I think should have been made vice captain. Henderson is a player who I think is underrated by many because of his immense work rate. He gets pigeon-holed as a workhorse with little creativity or real skill, but in actual fact, whilst not at the level of a Coutinho, Silva or other top level playmaker, his creativity is pretty decent, and his passing range is impressive enough. His ability to run all day seems to count against him in the eyes of some who then dismiss his other abilities. His passion is clear to see, and he's turning into a great leader - obviously not a Gerrard, but he comfortably has the ability to lead this team, with his ability as well as his manner.
