Being honest I'd never heard of him until linked, and I've also never seen him play.

What's he like?

He's a sort of CM playmaker. Plays in pivot for us and in midfield 3 for Empoil. Good dribbler, eye for pass, competent with both feet.

Not really a bargain of the century at all (or even bargain of the last 12 months), as he has been frozen out under Guardiola, partly due to middling performances, partly because he simply doesn't fancy him. Cut price, but then Bayern fans argue he cost too much in the first place. Then again Bayern arent stupid, they could still draw £30m from any prem club, would make little sense to go that low.

That said 2 issues with this story

1) it's Paul Joyce, who is horrible
2) Gotze is yet to talk to Ancellotti, who may yet want to keep him and restore him to a more leading role.

I know it hurts to admit it Mike, but we can actually make the odd good transfer deal you know.

Have faith people.

Coutinho was good deal as well. Imagine how ******* good he could be if he could get more consistent.

All relative to better players around him I feel as much as anything.

Since Gerrard was binned .....uhmmm, forced out ...... uhmmm, left for LA, the emphasis, until Klopp arrived, was ALL on him to be the key man. Like when Stevie was the catalyst, the other players would give it to him, sit back, and expect him to create a moment of genius. And his form really suffered as a result as he was trying too much. Shooting from distance for the spectacular when there was a better pass on. Ignoring simple balls and trying to beat five men.

The longer we've gone under Klopp, with Firmino really coming to the fore, and players like Lallana now really starting to contribute, that pressures been taken off and he's slowly getting the consistency back as he trusts everyone else more to their jobs.

That can only improve if/ when he has better players alongside side who can contribute what he does like Firmino has wonderfully now he's settled and he doesn't feel the need to have be the main man.

Ter Stegan/ Hector/ Gotze all playing against Italy right no for anyone interested. (I am in Hector):

Germany vs Italy**

For anyone that didn't watch .....

Ter Stegan had little to do. Came strongly and caught a few balls the area. Beaten by a big deflection. But his footwork was well dodgy which doesn't bode well. Hope he was just showboating.

Hector. VERY good. Not as attack minded as Moreno, but picks his moments and supports well when he does. Very intelligent positional wise. Very strong in the air as you'd expect for his size. Simple, good passer of a ball who's tough the tackle. Just a real solid, defender, who, yer know, can frigging DEFEND! EVERYTHING Moreno never was. And capped it off with a very good first International goal which came from great support. Need to catch some Cologne games but he'll fit in superbly on that showing.

Gotze. Had 60 odd minutes. Tidy. Kept it simple. Very good movement and interchanging with Muller. (Can we have him please? Lol, man, what a player and he's just getting better and better. Makes it look SO effortlessly easy wherever he plays.). But we know he's top notch already. The flick from him that lead to the third goal was ridiculously sublime.

Volland came on the last 10 but the game was dead by them so nottin' to really report on him.

Germany won 4-1. Unlike Sat'day, they looked interested and sharp whilst still playing within themselves. When it REALLY matters, you still feel they'd snot England. Puts the weekend in perspective.

Wait, what? Germany beating Italy? Must be some glitch in the matrix.

Friendly. And sometimes there must be exception to confirm the rule.

Ter Stegen as Barca's #1 GK? Of whatever number he is nowdays. Liverpool is in for him? Jesus, you could do much better with other German Gks. As a United fan, I would be ******* ecstatic if you got him.

Our main European scout has been at every Barca Champions League game this year and it won't go away so you presume there's some real legs in it.

We've also been at a good few Cologne games of late too, reportedly not only watching Hector but Horn, so who knows which way we'll fall.

But it's seeming more and more apparent that the Mingolet contract was more a financial safeguard than anything else for a player who'd be going into his last year next season.

They actually quoted that the commentary. 8 times they've met in competitive matches. Germany have never won 1.

Italy under Conte are a shambolic mess though even taking into account the dip in Italian quality. Can well see them doubling up the World Cup embarrassment and crashing out the groups.

Roll on that fella' at Chelsea next season.

Lets hope Mings stays with you lot for a while :D

Hector is the main one tbh. Papers have assumed Horn because of Mings, but the only confirmed interest is Hector.

You obviously should be in for Horn, but so far it seems not.

For what it's worth, Ter Stegen is ambivalent on his future. Doesnt want to leave Barca, but wants more than he is getting on the pitch.

We've confirmed we're looking at Hector? Must of completely missed that. Hadn't seen anything official out of the club or the manager per se. Just the natural media connection with out presence at Colognes games and a fly away comment from the guy himself.

Seriously hope he is right up there on our list. Like I briefly evaled above, he looked great last night. Need to try catch a few Cologne games to see more of him, but that was the kind of solid performance I want out of my defenders. (Hard to say much of anything on the England game Sat'day as Germany just weren't on it and where sloppy all over the park.).

Said it for years I've NEVER understood why English clubs have never looked German. More often than not, you don't get any better pro's. The culture and climate isn't all that different. The type of football is very similar. I seriously have never got it. Riedle for ourselves was absolutely fantastic. Just came a little too late in his career. But his influence on wen in particular was immense. And Markus Babbel was top draw until the shockingly bad health issues all but did for him.

Maybe it is harder to lure them away as they like German league more? And when top club from German should be calling the will go.

Maybe to an extent. But with all the money and popularity of the PL over the duration, particularly since Serie A dropped right down ..... Clubs just haven't seemed to look to Germany for some reason. Whilst we've gone through years of sub-standard Norwegians and the like stealing a living and being made for life through the English top league.

Clubs do try in fairness, they are just quite reluctant to leave Germany, all things being equal.
