Klopp wants a striker with energy and a high work rate. Balotelli and work-rate are polar opposites. Ings, however, could be a very good player under Klopp.

Benteke is a decent plan B. Balotelli has been utterly abysmal, I don't think we can have any regrets at signing him though, was always worth the punt.

Ah, January 2016.

Looking back now and thinking that Klopp had to pick between Benteke, Balotelli and Ings. Crazy.

How times have changed, eh? (H)

It is crazy, the progression is mental. When Klopp took over his team was so mediocre just looking at the back line it's a bit scary

Clyne, Moreno, Enrique, Sakho, Skrtel, Toure, Lovren, Flanagan.

How the **** is Ronaldo still staying in this company at 34? It's getting silly at this stage.

Aside from him being a complete athletic freak, he's picked his last two clubs/ leagues well hasn't he?

Since he's evolved into an out-and-out #9 the last years, where he barley moves from in front of goal and just does what he does. in a much slower tempo environment, that should save his legs even longer.

I'd imagine Serie A will see another good few years out of him before he goes and takes the P in America.

BTW, talking strikers, I sincerely hope you don't move Lukaku on. Said it plenty of times but he really is the easiest striker to defend we come up again every season. He 'should' be a Drogba. He has every attribute to be that dominating CF. But until he turns up in big games and stops just being a flat track bully against the lesser sides he'll never realise that.

Yeah I hear you, but how he's adapted and put most natural #9s to shame in terms of anticipation, box movement etc. is just silly levels of amazing. Mentality is arguably the greatest I've ever seen too, in all of sport.

Think I saw he has 76 Champions League goal involvements in his last 49 games (goals and assists) - I think I just laughed at how silly it was when I read that.

We know mate. We know. :)

Mikel Arteta talks to Marca

Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta has sat down for an in-depth interview with Marca.
Arteta enjoyed a magical season with Man City as they won the domestic treble.
In recent weeks, Arteta’s name has been linked with the vacant job at Middlesbrough.
In his Marca interview, Arteta has discussed his future at Man City, what it’s like working with Pep Guardiola, why Liverpool’s Anfield is special, his relationship with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and more.

Why Liverpool’s Anfield is unique

Man City pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2018-19.

Arteta was asked if he was surprised by Liverpool’s challenge last season. He replied:

No, because it is very difficult to beat them. Also, in my playing career, Anfield was the only ground where in which I had the feeling of ‘pájara’, of being stuck.

It happened to me with Arsenal, and we conceded five… You say: ‘I do not know what’s going on, stop the game, please, because I do not know where I am’.
It’s hard to explain, but it never happened to me anywhere other than Anfield.
Barça surprise me by the form of some of their goals, but at Anfield you can concede five without knowing.
Neither in Spain nor in Greece or Germany did I have that feeling. Not even in Old Trafford.

I thought of all the gifs/ videos out of numero seis, Henderson and his dad was my favourite for raw emotion and the human aspect after both their incredibly hard journeys.

But I think this top's it-

Warra' top, TOP bloke. Son look's like he's just found his long last father.
Hendo will go down as an LFC great if he lifts the PL title. He represents everything great about this club.

Pretty sound with that. Great split. Extra 2 days on Chelsea before the SC. At home 5 out of 6 after the CL group games. The Ev and Wolves away the two midweeks which is great. The last three International breaks could be bookended better like but can't have everything.

Be a well weekend side against Schalke that home friendly now coming three days before the opener.

Be looking at 7 out of 7 before October. That's the ridiculous standard now between ourselves and City.

On City, I think you've got to go into the year thinking they're more than capable of getting 114 points. As they will ourselves. Neither side will of course, but you start out expecting that and having every game a 'must win.' Fully expecting 90 plus points again from both and I honestly wouldn't like to predict who'll come out on top.

Really looking forward to the Charity Shield now too. For once that will be proper competitive with no side wanting to lose face and put down a marker for the battle ahead.

After the club website laughably saying 'sale suspended due to maintenance issues' earlier, the Schalke friendly has now been cancelled thankfully.

Christ we made a proper pigs ear of that.

The club needs to offer to compensate the Germans that have already booked. I'd be fuming if situations were reversed.

I don't want to make predictions but I honestly don't see anything but a two horse race for the title. Wouldn't be surprised to see if city or us end up with an unbeaten season considering how little separated us this season gone by.

As we stand I don't think there'd be many that wouldn't say that'll be for the next few season's at least given how far everyone else is behind. And the big problem's they all face trying to close that gap through various means.

The top 6 is a clear 2 and then a four scrambling not just for the CL spots, but to stay in it. The likes of Leicester and Wolves have to be seriously fancying themselves at breaking in this coming season if they keep what they have together.

I did think Tottenham were the clear third best side the Country, if a long way shy of City and L'pool, but they lost 20 games last season which puts a big question mark over that.

Wolves owners are ambitious and they will be chomping at the bits to break through into the top 6 and long term they have a good chance of doing so. Will be interesting to see if Rodgers has developed as a manager and can suit his tactic to the squad he has or will he revert back to his useless possession for possession sake football.

Defo to both. He's certainly picked a great situation at Leicester with arguably the best squad outside the top 6 to do that. And a really good added one.

All on his coaching now.
