The Liverpool Thread

I could not be prouder than to have this group of players representing this City and football club that bears its name.

The wonderful fella' that the manager is sets the tone. But they ALL TOTALLY get it.

PROPER F Scousers every last one of them!
Its a shame the club have gone and undone a lot of that by furloughing their staff. Not just Liverpool who have done this, bit it's inexcusable. There is not a single Premier League club who needs to do that financially

At least they are topping up the 20% missing unlike Spurs...

By the way, if anyone wants to understand how badly the clubs are ******* this up:
The 30% cut that Henderson is co-coordinating with the captains? Well the players want it all going straight to the NHS.

The clubs want 2/3rd of that back in their pockets with the leftovers going to the NHS. Greedy, greedy, greedy

Yeah we have the same **** going on here. A lot of talk about morality and ethics to pressure the players to take the wage cuts, but you don't see the clubs, the boards and other sport organizations making nearly the same commitments. It's bullshit.

The same clubs will then go and spend millions on players next window. Football gets a lot of unfair stick but they deserve everything they get got this.

If this is true it just boggles the mind did they not see the backlash Levy and spurs got? why does any of the PL teams with the vast amount of money coming in need to even use this scheme?

I'd avoided football for a few days but this wasn't what I expected to return to.

Shankly will be fair spinning in his grave.

I've, justifiably, given FSG massive props for all the good they've done over the last 4 years or so after their initial mistakes. But I'm honestly utterly disgusted in Liverpool Football Club and all it doesn't stand for right now.

I've been highly critical of other clubs going down this route so I won't be hypocritical in not condemning my own.

Taxpayer money going to support a club making record profits, with a market value over £2 billion, is inherently wrong. And the Government loophole here opening this up to all business' doesn't justify yet another mega-rich organisation, who don't need to take out, dipping in when the NHS is at breaking point.

I was hoping they'd have used the proposed 30% reduction in player salaries (Which, on a related note, shouldn't be an issue unless it's a voluntary move from the players. If Government Ministers, the Royals, and a whole host of selected mage rich tax dodgers aren't being forced to take pay cuts then footballers shouldn't be forced to either but that's a whole separate discussion) to cover, in reality, a pittance of staff wages for a club turning over £42 million in profits the last accounts. But I obviously gave the money men FAR too much credit.

Morally and ethically despicable from L'pool FC, when they could comfortably afford to sustain their employees without it damaging their finances to any significant degree, that flys in the face of the socialist values this City stands for and speaking personally I'm pretty ashamed and disgusted with them right now.

But then there's way too much more important stuff to worry about right now than getting angered by the continued, inherent greed of football so I'm leaving this before I properly do.

Stay safe. Stay home!

Any club that furloughs staff should have a one transfer window ruling where they can't buy any players. If you don't have the money for staff then you don't have the money for signings.

Absolutely. Personally, I sort of expect this from Levy. But Liverpool I know to be better than this, which is all the more surprising and disappointing they have gone the same route.

Hopefully it really is just greed. Chances are they know something we don't and make these cuts despite the backlash in preparation for financial crisis.

The costs of non playing staff wages is about
Thing is, no club in the premier League needs to be furloughing non playing staff to guarantee their wages. There's no excuse for any club taking tax payer money to do so. At least Liverpool have topped up the missing 20% which makes it less worse than Spurs, but they deserve all the flak they get, as does any club taking the same route. Every single club can afford to take the short term hit I posted above. At worst it means not buying a player or two. To move off your most vulnerable staff first is underhanded and morally bankrupt.

As the SOS statement ratified, you won't get any argument from anyone here to any of that.

There's going to be a real schism between players and clubs after this. Players are getting all the flak, while clubs hide. Tell you what, the next bunch of contract signings will be interesting. How many players will look at how their club acted and say "you know what, I'm not that keen anymore'?

Liverpool are set to reverse their decision on furloughing staff. Comes are Manchester United have announced they won't be take up the government scheme and all 900 odd staff will remain on full pay from the club.
