Well that was much better and, more pertinently, much more like ourselves and what we are. Really good night, on and off the field, with a super display to hopefully end this mini-blip at the start of the season that could and should have been a real thumping for Ajax with a bit more luck in front of goal.
I couldn’t have been prouder and happier to ruin what many shithouse media outlets and opposition fans were hoping for by an almost impeccable silence. I won’t lie that I was fearful we’d be giving them all they needed to be calling us worse than ***** again this morning given not only the anti-establishment feeling here. (For very good reason. Something they don’t and never will get. We don’t protest against the Monarchy. They are just the figure head of what we stand up to and rally against. But a simple, political, anti-establishment protest like drowning out the national anthem gets completely misunderstood by the base ignorance of the general populous as being anti-Royal and somehow anti-British.
). And they way they were disgracefully trying to preempt what they craved from us added to a fear they’d get that with a
’You aren’t telling us how to behave!’ reaction yer know? But, bar what was literally TWO dicks, one shouting ‘Liverpool’ and the other booing (which lead to others telling them to politely ‘Shut the F up!’ Which never helps and makes things sound worse); we do what we ALWAYS do when it comes to respecting a silence for someones passing. Perfectly observed and dignified by the majority.
Soz abar us to disappoint the Country that we have standards that they’ve disgracefully slung around the past few days suggesting we don’t. *****!
And I couldn’t have been prouder nor happier with the team in their best showing of the season since they volleyed City all over to pick up the seasons first silverware.
It was no coincidence either that we tweaked things and for the first time this season since the CS, went back to our normal MO with all three forwards a lot closer together rather than the nonsense of trying to make Mo and Diaz touchline hugging wingers. And subsequently, the L’pool we know and love under Jurgen returned with a vengeance! The shape was back.We were compact once more and everyone knew their positions. The press, for the first time this season since City, was finally back and causing Ajax all sorts. As the front three were closer together to trigger it. And the compactness running from front to back allowed everyone else to follow. And the one major missing component to the league games was back. Our main identity ….. The intensity in our play and everything we do! And once the confidence was flowing, that was a really enjoyable watch again with Ajax lucky to not be going home with a similar scoreline to what we received last week in Naples or worse as they were dominated from start to finish.
Which, for all the utter codswallop about ‘
L’pool being found out/ Klopp needing to change things/ having no plan B/ the squad not being Anywhere near strong enough’ etc ad nauseam, was all that has been missing. The team rediscovering their identity. An identity that has made them almost unplayable to stop under Jurgen. And why no match-going fan has panicked like all the on-line nonsense.
We know football here. And we know our team and just how ridiculously good this group still are. They were just in a funk and hopefully last night’s great showing was the first building block out of that with the return of something like Klopps Liverpool. And to come out of it just 5 pts off City, sat in a real good position in the CL group, is a real bonus and great platform to attack everything from once again.
Full marks to most every player last night bar Trent who was still off it. But at least his lethargy was gone and the work-rate and intensity was back in his game too. All positive signs going forward. Harvey was a little under par, naturally, as he’s going to be up and down like any 19-year-old developing footballer. But his ceiling is frightening so no concerns there. Shout out to Jota too for a top all round game. Something he’s lacked outside the box but he was great in that regard. And Thiago is just different gravy. If only we could keep him fit. *Sighs.
Just a really solid, really good, all round team display to build on going forward.
All played out under a great atmosphere. Which was added to by our friends from Amsterdam who have been brilliant over the last few days here and as friendly as could be. Can’t wait for the return in Amsterdam next month.
Frustrating, to be polite, that we now have to wait until after the break and Brighton with the disgrace of Chelsea going Sunday. But just great to have not only a really enjoyable night at the match again. But to wake the next morning with next to nothing to complain about them.
Boss to finally have Klopps Liverpool back.
Up the ‘Hello! Remember
US!!!’ Reds!
FTT!!!!!
