Topical, with the Euros. Day after Scotland- Wales on the Kop ‘77. So much going on there. The random shoe haha.

I was watching Darwin for Uruguay and the Copa America as the euros has me bored shitless. It pains me to watch the team set up to his strengths, with insane transitions and counter-pressing that reminds me of peak heavy metal. I so desperately want it to work out for Darwin and hopefully, Slot can do so.

Darwin's International record this season is really going under the radar. 10 goals from 9 Internationals is a heck of a goal scoring spell in anybody's language. And there's some top International sides they've come against in there. Argentina, Brazil and Colombia included. Just reading this AM that the other day's Copa goal equalled a 96-year record of 7 consecutive Uruguay Internationals he's now scored in.

I still maintain we have a man with the potential to be one of, if not the, best number 9's in World football on our hands here. Which is why we paid the vast amount we did for him. The long game. All the traits are there. He's shown, when he puts it all together, he's absolutely unplayable. Just a case of putting it all together on a consistent basis. Which will come the more experienced he gets.

Personally, as frustrating as he can be at times, I wouldn't swap him for any other CF out there.

To quote Henry "what they smoking over at St James park" . I think Gordon is a decent player but not Quansah plus money. Take your PSR issues elsewhere.

ITKs for Newcastle is still reporting that we are interested in Gordon. This is one of those deals that don't make sense in terms of squad building. Surely there are more pressing options in the squad than another left winger? I think he's a decent player whos progressed over the past two seasons but he isn't ***** whatever money Newcastle who seem to have sorted out their PSR issue with sales would want for him. Better off waiting another season and seeing how the current forward line progress under Slot and perhaps picking up a Jota like versatile forward on the cheap.

Every time he speaks, it just reinforces everything you’ve read and heard about him being the perfect fit to seamlessly carry on Jurgens outstanding work.

A superb, measured, really assured first presser, not just from Arne but from Richard Hughes as well.

It just adds to the proper exciting, if different, Jurgen vibe radiating out of this appointment and the start of that wondrous journey where we had the very best possible time of our lives for 8-and-a-half years. Starting afresh and building as we go. With the inherent difference that, at least on the park, all the foundations are in place and we have one of, if not the, most vibrant, young, top quality squad in the league to make that transition all the easier to not have to worry about any new tactical tweaks early. So we can just hit the ground running with all the players totally versed in our tried and proven style. It's not ideal having a truncated pre-season with players back at different intervals. But pre-season, and no less major International tournament disrupted pre-season's, never are. And certainly not when you are changing from an all time club legend and his top draw staff. But it's a HECK of a lot better situation than Jurgen's first pre-season. And he was coming off 8 months in the gig going into it.

These things are sent to try us.

The Euro's and Copa have been brilliant distractions. But now the proper stuff is here again and it was brilliant to see the first wave of players set out yesterday on the long, hard road to #20.

We really had Gakpo playing in midfield smh. I know he's versatile but the constant moving him around last season defo killed his confidence and when he had an extended run on the left towards the end he showed his talents.

It was funny in our WhatsApp that 3 different lads all posted ‘TRAITOR!’ at the same time when Trent scored. 🤣

You’d probably have to be a Liverpudlian to fully get the sentiment. Which plays into why I was personally so happy and relieved for Trent that he bagged. You could just imagine the Beckham levels of abuse he’d have got all over the Country, EVERY game, next season if he’d missed and England had ultimately gone out. It would just have given the plebs even more reason to ramp up their anti-Scouse agenda.

Thankfully he scored to escape what Beckham disgracefully endured.
