Can't believe all the hate going on. In the words of Ian Holloway (I think it was him?) how dare you say who my best team is. As I said before, you get a 25 man squad. You can pick anyone from that 25 you want. I wouldn't even class many of them as "reserves" Mignolet, Moreno, Skrtel, Manquillo, Allen, Lallana all 1st team.

Markovic cost 20 mil, so you can't call him a "reserve" player. Can again is a good young player. Injuries have prevented him playing more often. Borini has been very good in the matches he has played and deserves it more than Balotelli. Lucas used to me one of our key players, has lost favour a little now, but not a reserve.

The he only play you could call a reserve is Kolo, and he was immense last night.

That was actually hilarious.. what a fool

I'm not so sure - He has done everything to ensure our 'strongest' side is fit for the game, but in terms of spending, individual quality, wage bill, form etc etc Chelsea still have the upper hand in every area

Unless Liverpool improve dramatically on performances this season anything other than a defeat would be a good result

He basically threw away the game against Madrid in the hope of keeping his strongest side fully fit for Chelsea ... If he loses the Chelsea game as well then he had basically forfeited the game against Madrid for nothing

Do you genuinely think that Rodgers was trying to get a result against Madrid with the team he set out?

We play our strongest side, at home, and get beat 3-0 with Madrid stopping playing at half time due to the Clasico shortly after that game

We play our 'weaker' side, away in the Bernabeu, with a returning Bale, and lose narrowly and finish strongly

Yes, it was a weaker side, it may not have been our first side but the decision was vindicated by the performance. Only one side has kept Madrid from scoring less than two goals this season

Now we have a stronger side to face Chelsea in the league where the result will matter a lot more than a game away at the best side in the world

You play to get a result in every game. Rodgers pick the players from his 25 which he felt could do that, and on the night thy performed very well.

I think it terms of attack it was a weaker side, but defensively it was much better despite the big names missing

rodgers has his defenders but technical agg result of 6-0 to Real madrid wheres the ambition lads! thats not good results no matter how you paint or excuse it for a club like Liverpool. simply not good enough

Jesus Christ, what were you expecting? Liverpool are a rebuilt, young team that's just lost its best player. It's their first season back in Europe after a while out, and the squad isn't quite strong enough yet to consistently challenge for the league, let alone the CL. And you're expecting them to go out and beat Real Madrid, the reigning champions, who have in their ranks the best footballer in the planet (and one of the greatest ever) surrounded by a massively expensive assembled supporting cast including the top scorer of the World Cup just gone, two of the finest central midfielders in the world and the mighty Alvaro Arbeola.

Liverpool fans are without doubt some of the most consistently delusional in the Prem, but I've got to say in the whole they've reacted pretty sensibly to this. Liverpool didn't have a hope in **** of winning realistically, so why not just view this game as a dead rubber and concentrate on winnable games? Invoking how a 'club like Liverpool' shouldn't be sending out a defensive-minded team is utterly ridiculous, since all of Liverpool's prior success has been built around squads that have been one of the very best in the world at that given moment. Though Liverpool have a good side now, I think it's entirely fair to say that comparisons to, say, 2005 are totally unfair.

You were all pumped up for the Madrid games just few weeks ago, and now you're completely fine with playing second squad? Seems legit.

Something is seriously wrong with Rodger's attitude. Yes, he needs to be practical with his selection. But you don't just give up before the kick off when playing vs. best team in the world. Does he not have ambition to test himself vs. someone of Anelotti's stature?

Benitez had even bigger problems with squad depth but he always went for the jugular in those big european games anyways. And I bet that's what everybody expected when Liverpool qualified to CL. And now you're satisfied when Rodgers puts up a white flag?

I bet players were kind of dissapointed with that as well.

Yep. Completely have faith in BR. Cos I'm not a plastic.

I have my opinions on when he should be playing the diamond and when he shouldn't but you should always stand by your manager mate.

unless its roy hodgson

It's like Mick Mccarthy playing second team at old trafford as he had more chances of victory in the next game. For a big team like Liverpool it's embarrassing to field second team to save the players for weekend and accepting defeat before the kick off.

Few can dress it up however they want like the performance and scoreline was much better than first leg but the intention was so obvious.

You can't compare that at all. Wolves gave 3 points to United in a title race. We've played a soft team against a team who've already won the group.

Unless it's Roy Hodgson, of course.

Eh, its not like 2005 team were world beaters. Thats what made Stambul such a crazy game, because it was Gerrard, Alonso and a bunch of wannabies vs. one of best lineups ever assembled.

Lets not get too ahead of ourselves here. Hyypia and Carragher were miles better than any pair this Liverpool team could come with, and the likes of Luis Garcia, Harry Kewell, Dietmar Hamann, Vlad Smicer et al were all quite a bit better than the supporting cast nowadays. Regardless though, my point remains that Liverpool's team now is nowhere near as good as it was in 2005. Not to mention the manager's not as good, either. ;)

Some of the other guys were better then current squad, yeah, but ultimately they finished 5th by goal difference, hardly an accomplishment worthy of infiniately superior team. ;)

On the other hand, they won the CL. If this squad can match that then I'll cede the point. ;)
