one thing rodgers is good at dare i say excellent is the coaching side of the game. most of our players have improved technically and tactically. so sterling is better of staying, i disagree that he will end up like swp and scott sinclair. sterling is better than both of them combined he is got more than pace to his game. the weaknesses in his game can be improved e.g finishing, descison making gets better with age etc...

I agree on Scott Sinclair but Shaun Wright-Phillips was quite a similar player with a similar reputation and big moves/ lack of game time didn't help his development

I also doubt Sterling will go down this route, but it's a risk this early in his career when he has achieved little and his performance will certainly not guarantee him a starting place at other clubs

20million + Theo Walcott Arsenal offer being mooted around for Sterling....

Not sure to be honest

Not bad imo. Walcott has been a bit off, but i think thats more to do with lack of playing time than anything else. I really like him tbh. Plus add to that 20m towards new transfers will be good on top of what you already have. Then you will be rid of a player who wants out, and is putting the club in the headlights in all the wrong reasons. Good deal imo.

I reckon take it, though Arsenal would be mad to offer it. Especially as QPR has a clause for 20 or 25% of the next fee, a player exchange is best for us

I am siding towards agreeing with you two here... Walcott with regular playing has been a very good player for Arsenal and England. Injuries are a worry though

Arsenal would be the winners here imo.

Initially I thought the same, however, Liverpool's inability to lure top talent may make a deal like this a little more appealing

Not sure I could Walcott as a top talent. Sterling will almost certainly end up better than him.

Oh no, Im not classing him as a top talent - We cant attract the top talent so Walcott may be a good signing compared to what we are likely to spend if it was a straight cash deal

I hope we can secure 5th place today. I dont get the whole 'we should try not to qualify for the Europa League' debate.

Yes, it is not ideal with Thursday/Sunday, but it is a European Competition when we have struggled to consistently qualify for the main one... We should be taking it seriously

Personally I don't mind if we don't get EL, it's the equivalent of the Carling Cup domestically. If I'm not mistaken, you also get less money for winning the EL than qualifying for the CL group phase. Of course, now you can qualify to CL by winning EL, but we're not exactly a cup team under Rodgers like we were under Rafa, so I don't see us winning it anyway tbh.

If we do qualify for EL, I hope we'll use it to play youngsters. I don't want to see us fielding our best team on a Thursday night somewhere in Eastern Europe, when we have an important league game on Sunday.

Its the equivalent because of supporters living in the past. It's a European competition and at full strength we would have a realistic chance of doing very well. It now also has the incentive of qualifying for the CL

We don't have a right to be in the Champions League and for the majority of seasons we haven't been good enough to qualify. Perhaps it is about time we took a similar attitude to that of Sevilla, for example

If we use the Europa League as an experience where we continuously play people who don't start in the prem and a few youngsters I want to finish 5th. We don't have the squad to try and compete on both fronts though unless there is heavy investment over the summer. In which case 7th would be a better choice. Worst choice for me is 6th July start for qualifiers yuck. That being said we started early when we won the CL in 05 (Omens)

Europa League is horrific. Thursday/Sunday schedule is terrible. 5PM matches. Playing Hungarian teams, then getting knocked out in the round of 16 to a Russian team.

I completely understand the negatives of it - but part of it is because of the fans' perception of the competition

It is almost like people feel we're too good for the competition
