Not seen any of today's football yet, but reading the comments here, it sounds like yet again City were handed a win at home. Maybe that's the difference between their home and away form?

Nah, they were worthy of their win. Just might have been different if the officials made some better decisions.

Anyone saying that is doing them a complete injustice, both in this game and in their home form. I'm loathe to defend City, but anyone saying they were handed a win is being extremely bitter tbh. Both sides were excellent, Liverpool had a chance that should have stood, both sides could have had pens for shirt tugging. Suarez should have had a free kick and not been booked for a high foot. Liverpool didnt take their chances, City did, just about. That was the difference today.

Skrtel needs slapping. If he stops trying to foul Kompany, and actually bothers to defend, he might have prevented the first goal. He has no intention of playing for the ball, and Kompany is too strong and smart for him

I'm not one to usually pass blame on the referees, but we could've won hadn't it been for the two massive refereeing blunders.
What was the second blunder? Apart from the linesman's poor offside call, of course.

Despite the loss though, I think we showed we have to potential to be right near the top at the end of the season.
Definitely. We attacked with a lot of aggression and promise, but it was our poor finishing and defensive mistakes which let us down in the end, as well as the linesman.

Frustrating to watch. Saw negredos goal coming, I was screaming at our centre-backs to hold their positions. Obviously they never heard my death-like screams from my living room.

All in all I think we can walk away from the defeat with our heads held high. Brilliant performance but things simply didn't go our way. Not going to start on the officials as you ******* expect it nowadays. Didn't see anything from Joe Allen as per usual.

I agree about Allen. I've heard loads of people say he's brilliant, so I'm not sure whether I'm underrating him or they're overrating him. The thing is, he can't defend, he can't attack, due to how weak, slow and poor at dribbling he is, so I'm not too sure what he contributes to the team, apart from dictating possession in midfield (but not as well as the likes of Carrick or Pirlo do it). Lucas at least contributes something defensively, even if he's not been the best this season.

It's true that City didn't exactly play badly, but I felt we were far superior going forward. What ultimately let us down was our finishing, and some defensive errors (Skrtel for their first goal; Mignolet for the second and Sakho's various poor passes, which disrupted our rhythm). We could, and should, have got at least two or three more goals (the 'offside' goal; Johnson's poor touch; Henderson being offside for Su?rez's shot and Sterling's miss from a few yards out), but we just weren't good enough at finishing today. We were lucky to get away with some of our poor defending, though - like when Navas blazed it over the bar, or the couple of shots wasted by Negredo and Tour?. So no, I wouldn't say it's doing them a complete injustice, but it should be acknowledged that their finishing was far superior to ours today, and they were also calmer in possession.

The thing is, before this game, I thought we wouldn't have a chance of winning - so if you'd had said we would've lost 2-1, I wouldn't have felt disappointed. However, it's the manner in which we lost the game which is worrying - the mistakes, the poor finishing and consistently poor performances from some players (Skrtel - to a certain extent; Johnson; Cissokho - but not in this game and Allen - although he's been much better in recent games), although it has to be said that the likes of Sterling, Henderson and Flanagan have really upped their game this season!

The point is it should have been 2-0 first, and that makes it completely different game. Liverpool can just comfortably sit back using Suarez and Sterlng's pace to counter.

In any case , props for actually playing open football away with City - I sure as **** did not expect that.

Honestly, the poor refereeing aside, both of City's goals were very preventable if Skrtel and Mignolet decided not to completely muck up. Encouraging signs for Liverpool, it was a good performance and they were unlucky in the end

There were several blunders, for both City and Liverpool. City should've had 2 or 3 penalties, because Skrtel was woeful, and kept dragging Kompany down whenever there was a corner. Suarez should've had a penalty at the end when Lescott dragged him down, and there was another decision which could've gone for either a penno or a FK for us, bot nothing was given.

Suffice it to say, the ref's had a major day off.

The last one was a free kick, not a pen, but otherwise spot on. Should add that Suarez shouldn't have been booked.

Aah yeah, that's what I would've thought too, but I -think- I remember Owen saying that it could've gone both ways. And yeah Suarez shouldn't have been booked as he swiftly brought down his foot as soon as he saw Hart.

Even more so when you consider Hart made absolutely nothing of it.

Skrtel's really ******* me off, I want him dropped.

We were unlucky, few decisions didn't go our way, hopefully they'll feel ****** off tomorrow and **** Chelsea.

We need reinforcements though if we're serious about finishing in the top four. Whilst we're at it, can we just destroy Moses. Like, just, make him no longer exist?

Skrtel is very bad when it comes to shirt pulling in the area, but every defender does it.. however, now Skrtel has been picked up referee's will look for it. He is actually a very decent defender in most aspects of his game

But yes we do need more players, even if it is just for a bigger squad with more quality

I'm still unsure about Skrtel. He scores a lot of own goals, and commits a lot of fouls, but I still think he's a decent defender. He did quite well against City, bar the Kompany goal of course - but then, how many players in the Premier League can beat Kompany in the air?

If Skrtel had actually tried to defend against Kompany, rather than foul him, he might have stopped that goal.

Agreed.. In my opinion Skrtel has so many good qualities as a defender, but his habits such as these stop him from getting better

I didn't say that they were handed a win - as I said, I hadn't even seen the game at that point - but going by what people were saying, it did sound like they had been given it...

Not saying you were, but that anyone saying it would be doing them a disservice.

The key word there is might. Kompany is far superior to Skrtel in the air, and to be honest, I don't think Skrtel should've been the one marking him in the first place!

These 'habits' also help us at times though. I have to admit, I do feel uneasy every time Skrtel pulls someone's shirt at a corner, or manhandles them in a defensive position, but his fouls are actually quite tactical. He treads the line carefully, and only really commits fouls he needs to. His ball distribution is his weakness, in my opinion, but then, how many defenders can play the ball like Agger?

They do help us and Skrtel is a good player, but he loses concentration easily and commits silly fouls alot of the time... Skrtel will eventually be pulled up for shirt pulling., especially now the media have picked up on it
