Irrelevant. I completely understand his motives and getting scythed down by a national teammate in a world cup year blah blah blah, but that's not how it works.

re: the Jose comments, it's total bullshit. Of course it is, it's Jose and he got a controversial decision going his way: he's never going to say that the referee made a mistake.

Should Eto'o have been sent off? Yes. Should Suarez have had a penalty? Yes. Should Hazard have had a penalty? Yes. Does the fact that Suarez has a reputation for diving make him less likely to get decisions now after he's cheated refs on multiple occasions? Yes. Should Oscar and Lucas both have been sent off? Yes, but the game was over at that point. If you guys are really serious about getting top 4, you'd be better off looking at what you did wrong (odd tactics, bad subs, Suarez isolated) rather than saying you lost it because of the ref.

We didnt lose because of the ref, simple mistakes cost us the game

But against City and Chelsea, the two biggest games of the season so far, the referee's sure did help preventing any chance of a Liverpool victory ( not intentionally of course )

I'd agree with that, you didn't get much from the ref in those games in terms of controversial decisions - and I thought both the City and Chelsea games were closer than I expected despite those issues. That isn't to say luck is a binary concept between the teams, either, because it isn't.

"It is not a tackle. Suarez lost the duel with Azpilicueta, who has the ball and is leaving the box, now he is doing an acrobatic swimming pool jump to try to get a penalty."

"He is so clever because he also knows he is in the area with the Liverpool supporters behind him, But [referee Howard] Webb is 10 metres away and I think the only mistake he did was not to give him a yellow card."

His quotes. you get a yellow card for simulation, Jose saying Suarez dived and should have been booked for doing so

Simulation also includes exaggerating a fall when you can stay on your feet and you don't have to in order to try and provoke the situation and earn a penalty

Everybody knows what angle Mourinho was taking. I dont think he believes in what he is saying but its very clever as he is diverting the attention away from the poor decisions

Typical Jose, really.

In the City game you got screwed over by the ref but were playing at a level where the result could easily have been different. Against us, you got screwed over by the ref but weren't playing well enough to win anyway. With one, you can go home thinking that on another day that was easily your game. With the other, you need to go home and think about how you can adapt your play.

Oh no doubt he is diverting the attention away but what else do you expect?

Agreed we played alot better against City, but alot more decisions went against us v Chelsea and major one's

Eto'o in the first minute the biggest. Chelsea down to 10 men for 90 minutes and Eto'o goes onto score, game changer

Granted Eto'o shouldn't have been on the pitch to score that goal, but Webb isn't the only one to blame. Mignolet should have saved it. It was a very weak shot, and he got a hand to it. So yes, Webb made some terrible decisions in that game, and both sides should have had at least one penalty in the case of Chelsea, however you had a strong case for both of yours, and Chelsea probably should have been down to ten men, but ignoring that, Mignolet should have got a stronger hand to that shot.

at the end of the day the best team won regardless. Both sides had poor calls go against them on the day but the right side got the 3 points.

Whoever is saying we lost because of our performance is a dimwit. Sure, we were shocking, but many game-changing decisions went against us. Obviously we were ****, but we should've had more out of the game. And as I was saying in the United thread; it is a sign of champions when you're playing badly but still picking up points. Not that were champions or going to be, but the point still stands. We played terrible but Chelsea didn't put the game to bed and we should've been given penalties and had more men. Maybe not in every instance the ref decisions should've gone our way, but at the very least on one occasion.

Yes the game is done and gone now so we need to move on. But I'm sick of seeing plastics posting defending the refereering, and going on about past decisions from seasons gone by. It's just a matter of time before the 2005 semi-final gets brought up again.

i used to hate mourinho years ago when he first came he seemed just an aroogant *******! he still is a big ego but i find him amusing hes always playing a charicature of himself and deliberately playing mind games and yes talking ***** but he does it with character and is alot more charismatic and entertaining than alot of other football managers im glad hes back in the premier league for moments when he riles the crowd up or takes the **** out people and himself he is intelligent espec. with mind games just take every thing he says with a pinch of salt and msg! ;) he plays on having bad english but he clearly understands the language more than he pretends and hides behing it too this allows him get away with murder

all the transfer talk about buying Rooney were clearly mind games and playing with Manutd and eploiting knowledge of Rooney etc he gets under skin and into minds this is a tactical mental part in football not many utilise as cleverly or machiavellian as Mourinho does

Finally someone understanding him! It still astounds me when people take his comments seriously and complain about them! Everything is a mind game with Jose!!!! By saying the ref got the decisions correct and praising them he maybe is thinking "this will get them on our side". Everything he says he says for a reason, he is a very very intelligent man.

So if Utd said to us "30million and he's yours" you think he wouldn't be wearing blue now? No way was it mind games, Jose wanted Rooney and Rooney was unsettled.

I think he's smart enough to understand if he can turn the new Chief Executive and Manager's focus inwards at their club, then it will weaken their potential dealings. Constantly talking about buying and respecting a player you want is useful, but doing it to your "in-transition" rivals is certainly more likely to turn heads. The trick to 'mind games' is you need to engineer it so that regardless of the outcome you manage to gain something positive from it.

No doubt he's a very clever man, and yes, he does do mind games a lot, but not everything he says will be tactical. Don't take this the wrong way, but some of you Chelsea fans thing he's God reincarnated, and that he can see into the future. A lot of his comments will be tactical, but sometimes, you have to remember, he does speak as a human being too.

Rooney was unsettled about 8 months before that. Even when Jose made his final stance, Rooney stayed, and is playing the best football in about 4 years. I know some fans (not you) want to claim mind games over the Rooney saga, but Jose was a sideshow. The actual "mind games" were between Rooney, United, and Ferguson....

Even without his chirping on it was going down like that anyway.

Not everything with Jose is mind games. Sometimes its just hogwash. Difference is many people in Spain simply saw through it. Here people lap it up. Still.

And no one blamed Chelsea or Jose for not completing the transfer which was odd.

ManUtd wanted Fabregas and made low bid initially, people made fun of Moyes and woodword. Jose and Chelsea did same thing for Rooney and it was considered as mind games. Journalists in UK really love him.
