Lets not get too ahead of ourselves here. Hyypia and Carragher were miles better than any pair this Liverpool team could come with, and the likes of Luis Garcia, Harry Kewell, Dietmar Hamann, Vlad Smicer et al were all quite a bit better than the supporting cast nowadays. Regardless though, my point remains that Liverpool's team now is nowhere near as good as it was in 2005. Not to mention the manager's not as good, either. ;)

The 04/2005 team was absolutely terrible, which is what made getting to the final even more baffling. Just go through the squads from some of the matches and you'll see just how poor it was. Some of the notably poor players who played in the knockout stages Traore, Smicer, Igor Biscan, Le Tallec, Nunez, John Welsh, Darren Potter.

Garcia, Hamann, and Kewell weren't the supporting cast, they were the big guns. Our current team is much better than that one and has much better depth (which doesn't really say much). Give me Balotelli over Cisse & Baros anyday.

opinions! regardless we are still under performing. BR is not beyond critique. Just because i dont think like the rest of the sheep does not mean im a plastic. Ive followed Liverpool all my life. Hes crazy to stand by Balotelli. Whats wrong with fans wanting their teams to show more ambition? Like actually trying to win a match!

On the other hand, they won the CL. If this squad can match that then I'll cede the point. ;)

I'm a Milan fan, don't remind me.

Seriously though, they did win and good for them ,but it was quite a bizarre campaign. Including, but not limited to, being hilariously outclassed throughout entire final. Weird results happen in football, but lets be honest here. 2005 squad had a lot of duds. Traore, Baros, Dudek who was awfully mediocre and just happened to play best game of his life when it mattered the most. Smicer was never really that good for them either, but happened to score that completely ridicolous 2nd goal. The list goes on.

There's a reason why Benitez quickly booted nearly every player from CL winning squad off the team.

All fair points, but I will fight anyone who says Jerzy Dudek was mediocre. Man was a hero.

No one... NO ONE... slags of Igor Biscan. I remember sitting right by the tunnel in the game vs Juve. Pre-game the players were going back down the tunnel and me and my brother kept shouting Igor Igor. And then it happened; he looked up, winked at us, and carried on down the tunnel. What a moment.

I must've been about 12 then (my brother 10) and it's probably one of my best memories of Anfield to date. That along with Crouchys first goal at Anfield for us!

Now I'm torn between not wanting to bash the one iconic player we had in Poland in last 20 years, and going full on TLDR rant exploring Dudek's heroics.

Such as getting away with running two meters off his line during entire shootout, making last minute double save vs. Shevchenko, in full panic mode with eyes closed, and the vicious banter that he claims he distracted Milan players with, even though if you watch the footage he was mostly mumbling to himself while standing 5 meters away and there's no chance in **** they heard any of it.

Seriously though, he had great game in the final, but most of the time he was pants.

Biscan is a cool dude as well. Excellent example of human being.

You play to get a result in every game. Rodgers pick the players from his 25 which he felt could do that, and on the night thy performed very well.

The thing was that he definitely wasn't looking to get a result in the game with the side he put out. I am not sure what else he can do to show that short of going onto the field and waving a white flag pregame. Now I personally don't give a **** if Liverpool forfeits the game but it will definitely be hilarious if they lose to Chelsea on Saturday despite resting 7 players

Oh yeah Dudek was kinda ****.

BUT HE WAS A HERO DAMMIT

It was better defensively, no denying that.... And i dont think it will be hilarious at all, rested or not Chelsea should be winning that game

£4m by the sound of it.

Not sure he's got the height to do that well in the Prem. Great shot stopper though.

Six one innee? He just seems smaller. That's taller than Allan McGregor, for example, and about the same size as Speroni. Should be tall enough. I think his main problem isn't his height, it's more how he uses his body. Doesn't have a lot of bulk, and he shows it.

Still, probably better than Migs.

Oh. I thought he was about 5"9' or so.

Still doesn't seem that comfortable coming for crosses. Probably better than Mignolet mind.

Better than Mig, but not amazing. Heck, if he's a slight upgrade on Mig I'd take it. But there's others I'd prefer.
