I agree the kid is fantastic. he is strong, fast, good going forward and excellent defensively. The complete package imo. Only prob is southampton could take us to the cleaners and we could overpay.

Contract runs out next summer.. Seen a few journos suggesting 12-15mil may be enough

IF Rodgers would disperse with the ridiculous 3 at the back we don't have the personnel to play and go to a 4, both Flano and Manquullho come back into play.

We have Manquullho for another year anyway, and it's real doubtful Atletico would pay the option to take him back early. He started off looking promising, then tailed off down to both, like Flanagan, being a defender first and foremost and not fitting, at all, as a wing back; and his complete inexperience catching up with him being as he'd had virtually none in La Liga. Not losing anything by keeping him the second year and he showed enough early to be given a good look. IN the right system and played right. The nagging issue with Jon is obviously the injurys. But if he overcomes them, there's a solid RB right there. The only problem is his lack of pace for the way Rodgers plays.

A RB's needed, no question. As is another full back on the other side.

But with Wisdom back in the mix too, I would have far more positions as far more pressing areas of need with our limited resources to attend to them all at this point.

I definitely agree that a right back is not our top priority, or shouldn't be anyway. If we were to sign another right back, then when Flanagan hopefully recovers, what is going to happen to him, the most promising of the players from our academy who are truly home grown? Manquillo and Wisdom should in theory be enough until he recovers.. This is taking the extremely bold assumption that Rodgers intends to use Manquillo as a right back, and not someone else. I wonder if Lacazette can play right back?

Clyne is an excellent full back and I'd be delighted if we signed him, but I think we have greater priorities

I think our priorities are (rough order):
A top striker
A keeper
Another striker
A centre mid
A fullback
A centre back

I think our priorities are (rough order):
A top striker - Benteke
A keeper - Mathew Ryan?
Another striker - Ings/Origi
A centre mid - Milner
A fullback - Clyne
A centre back - I.Martinez seems to be the only one linked

(In Bold) Seems even with the addition on Clyne, nearly all those other positions we are targeting players for.. They may be not what people want but Rodgers/Committee have identified the areas at least

I would be happy with Clyne, Ings and Milner... Benteke depends completely on price and other options available and I would be hoping another surprise good signing could be made (Gaitan, Salvio linked)

With the Telegraph reporting Benteke has a release clause of £32.5 million, we can sack that one right off. He's not worth anything like that. Never understood why we'd want another slow forward (albeit one who has scored) who doesn't fit what Rodgers does to start with. But then there's no direction in what we currently do at all so he fits.

The strong rumours are Milner is Arsenal bound so that would end that debate.

Benteke can be worth that amount - just not for us

Everything I am reading states Milner is LFC bound and that the decision was decided weeks ago with the increased chance at first team football at deciding factor?

Does this not show something though? Man City are willing to pay a ridiculous amount for a squad player and Arsenal want the player.. that's two of the top 4 wanting him yet some fans still think we're almost too good for him

I'd completely take issue that Benteke is a £ 30 million plus worthy player, but that aside, this Milner debate is getting tiresome.

Nobody, at least what I've read, has suggested we're either too good for him/ he's not good enough for us/ he's a bad player/ however else you want to term it et all.

The counter argument are that we are in a wholly different situation to City and Chelsea it would be folly in our situation to take him which is wholly different to theirs and their respective reasons.

But again, I highly doubt FSG pay 100 K plus a week for a guy turning 30 this year who's not a top difference making player so it's probably all moot anyways. Just not in their MO at all.

I must say i havnt rated milner for a long time, but hows things have changed as id love to see him playing for us!

As you say in your later post, Benteke is an excellent striker, just wouldn't fit for us. Obviously Lacazette is the dream signing, but I'd be happy with Vietto. If we could sign both, for the two striker roles, unrealistic, I know, that would be sensational. They'd be my ideal signings, but yes, it won't happen. If we can pick up one of them I'll be pleased though.

With regards to Milner, I think it's a risk we have to take. He's a quality player, and sure, in 2, 3 or 4 years time he might not be, but the fact he wants to leave City for smaller pay and more first team football surely suggests that in two years time if he isn't playing enough he'll want to move on as well. Maybe circumstances will change and he'll be looking for a payday, but I doubt it. He gets a reasonable amount of games at City and would be on a much higher wage, so if he was out for money he'd stay there, although there is the argument that he has only got so many games because they desperately want him to stay.

A centre back Don't see it happening, we have Sakho/Skrtel/Lovren/Touré

Just seen papadoulopus of leverkusen/schalke on fm, whats happened to him? Has he lived up to his potential?

On the Origi thing, I sincerely hope he's loaned out again next year and the plan isn't to have him as part of the squad. To say he's still real raw is an understatement. Nowhere near ready for the BPL. All pace and little else. He's even been voted the worst foreigner in France last year and made L'equipe's worst Ligue 1 team. (Although I take anything they say with a pinch of salt with their uber pro PSG agenda.).

Get him involved and take a look at him pre-season to see where he's at, then loan him out for another season. Preferably in England. Then look again next pre-season and decide where he's at from there.

At this stage I aren't expecting much but hopefully he develops into something.

Origi needs to be at Liverpool next year, he needs to adapt to Liverpol firstly and the way in which Rodgers runs things then start adapting to the premier league.

He had a poor Ligue 1 campaign but was out of the Lille team for a big stretch. I do believe it was mostly down to him wanting to just join Liverpool already and not being too fussed about Lille which in itself shows lack of professionalism if true which could flare it's head down the years with us.

However for a 19 year old at the WC he looked good. Played better than Lukaku who has shown himself to be ready for the prem.

It's the age old experience scenario, you can't get premiership experience without somebody giving you a chance in the prem.

All in all I say no loan. Fight for a starting spot week in week out.

I could well see that happening but I don't personally think it would both be the right step in his development at this stage; nor offer much of anything in terms of reliable depth to a group that has next to nothing there to start with.

We'll see how it plays out but I'm not personally expecting too much either way.

*Edit* And I'd be looking at loaning him to a lower Premiership or higher end Championship side with a guarantee he'll play. Anything else would stunt his progress.

@BBCSport Liverpool have £10m bid for right-back Nathaniel Clyne rejected by Southampton. Full story: http://bbc.in/1dBkquH

What clubs would you like to see him go to then? Top 5 landing spots?

Seems to be offers for Kovacic, Clyne, Ings and Milner on the table with Benteke a target after the FA Cup final

I think its a decent start to the summer at least (even though its very, very early)
