When you pay over 30m for a striker he simply has to take that chance he had tonight, he gives you a focal point in attack don't get me wrong but goals win games.

He's only been there for a short while and he added lots to their attack as well. Judge him at the end of the season.

You could view it that way.

You could view it that Cech made a Worldie save.

Both are valid arguments but I'm giving him a pass as I thought Cech did ridiculously well to react that quick from that close in.

Been pleasantly surprised with Benteke the first three games His workrate has been phenomenal and he's given us a great new dimension. I thought he was excellent today and all he lacked was a goal for his efforts.

The only player I'm a little disappointed in is Milner thus far. Very busy and hard working but there's little end to it. Not dictating the play. And as hard as he works defensively, his tackling is non existent. Very frustrating but at least he's proven quality. All the other new guys to play have been great. Clyne has quietly been real solid at RB. The protection in front of him was poor today but he still did his job. Firmino had a great first start. Still not quite upto the frenetic pace of the English game. But some fantastic touches. And what can I say about #12 that won't have me gushing for about 20 pages?

Excellent result and an excellent start to the year.

He doesn't give them a focal point, gives them Empire State Building in the box. Very reliable when receiving the ball and creating plays.

Joe Gomez looks a special talent for you lot, not even being played in his natural position I believe?

Got a soft spot for Liverpool as after all we did get the great Brian Hall off you :P

Thank you.

Nope. He's a centre half currently playing in the one position he played the least at Charlton.

Nice to hear. God rest.

Im ******* loving benteke lol. The prescence he gives us upfront is phenomenol just wish he would run in behind a bit more but cant complain. Cant wait to see how he interchanges with Daniel when he comes back. In the case of milner it just seems like a useless signing, i meant yes he brings experience but the guy played his best football for city on the wing. If he aint playing winger then whats the point of playing him, he is so similair to hendo its pointless. Also a big shoutout too the new backroom staff pepjin is acting as a link between the youth and the first team as we saw with rossiter today. Also the new holding hands during set peices to keep a line is an O'driscoll idea that he used to do at the rovers which is nice to see. Overall an excellent start to the season, hopefully it continues.

Im a little surprised about the Milner criticism to be honest... Yes, he was never going to be a regular creative/scoring midfielder and he is similar to Henderson, but he was fantastic last night.

His tenacity, work-rate, pressing, leadership and commitment was superb. Every team needs a player like it. I think he is going to be vital for us in those bigger games

Specially when he was a free transfer!

And you've just reiterated what I credited him for. ;).

I'm not criticising his performance, but really, it could of been the difference between coming away from Emirates with 3 pts rather than 1. In all honestly I think Arsenal are nothing to fear this season, they have the same problems, as soon as they have a few injuries their depth of quality isn't there because they never address their main issues in the transfer window.

You also said you were a little disappointed in him when I'm not sure what for? We knew he wasn't going to be a consistent creative midfielder or goalscorer

For what I said along with praising his work rate. The end product. He's closing down and working his *** off superbly. But missing tackle after tackle. (More evident last Monday.). And he's not dictating the play. All things he can and will.

From that aspect it's been a disappointing start. But from other aspects it hasn't.

Your taking that as criticism and reading WAY too much into nothing.

Fair enough, can't argue with that

Then if he isnt a consistent creative midfielder or goalscorer. Then whats his job in the team. I think its a high price to pay for just tenacity and workrate when we have a captain who does the same thing. Im not hating on milner here i love his enthusiasm as a player but he just feels wasted in centre mid. His best play for city always came from the wing. He is the best crosser in the team we have and is excellent in link up play in the final third. I would take ibe out of the team for now and play milner there. Just my two cents but like you said ill fully judge him at the end of the season.

One of the provisions of Milner signing was that he got to play in his preferred position in the middle.

Whoever agreed to that needs sacking. No player should dictate were they should play. Its up to the manager to decide.

Didn't have to agree and take him.

But we did and obviously are happy to have him inside. He'll be the fulcrum sooner rather than later in there.

Third round draw at 10 PM BST for one of my favourite competitions, the League Cup.

Really wanting one from Burton, Rochdale, York, Walsall, Northampton, Shrewsbury, Hartlepool, MK Dons, Oxford, Gillingham, or Barnet, in that order; for a new ground.

Burton winning and Shrewsbury and Walsall drawing so limited prospects but Burton would be boss. 8 breweries in Burton-upon-Trent. Who wouldn't want that!
