He didn't know he was being fired. The decision had been made two weeks ago, United being the straw that broke the camels back, but no one told him till Gordon rang

Then if you take that on face value he's more frigging naive than he looks.

..... FSG should have done this earlier. New manager could have had players he actually wanted.

Oh, no argument there. He should of been bin bagged after Stoke last year.

But at least they've been pro-active and acted quickly this year which is a positive sign.

.....
He has left Liverpool in a better state than when he arrived though. The fact they are able to attract Klopp and Ancelotti despite not winning any trophies in the 3 years shows that Rodgers gave it a good go and made Liverpool "relevant" again.....

How does that work? The worse you get, the more relevant you suddenly become?

His goal was to get back in the Champions League. He achieved it.
He put up a formidable title challenge.

Last season if you won on the final day you'd have finished 5th. Two cup semi-finals.

Dalglish's reign in the league was shocking.

He's made some clangers in his decisions transfer wise and in his stubbornness with team selection and tactics but he's a good manager. The Liverpool when he took over to the Liverpool he left is closer to the other top clubs. Still a way off being title challengers presently but back in 2012 you were behind Spurs and Everton by some way too.

I'm not going to pull apart the horrendous (save for one roller coaster season he could very justifiably be argued cost us the league as much as nearly winning it) reign of Brendan Rodgers as we're mercifully done with him.

Save to say we've never not been 'relevant' in terms of a draw. Who successive ownerships have chosen to target is a completely different story. Rodgers has played absolutely zero part in adding to that. If anything, his absolutely disgraceful 3 and a bit European campaigns would aid to damaging that relevance would they not?

So we'll say it's a theory. A ..... 'different' one. But a theory none the less.

Love how zzeezy is trying his best to dampen the jubilant mood on this thread ... And utterly failing!!

I know some people have been talking about how you've swooped now because Mou is unstable, but what about looking at it a different way? Maybe Brendan was being given more patience until they saw Chelsea lose yet again and a spot in the top 4 suddenly looking considerably more realistic if you could get your **** together asap?

I was having that very same discussion with someone earlier who was suggesting the very same. That if Chelsea hadn't been so rank bad, he may well still be clinging on. But they're looking at your start, along with the indifferent form of everyone else, and thinking we should be capitalising and increasing a gap through our easiest run of the opening period of the season. Darwin and losing at home whilst still saying 'look, we're above Chelsea' and not increasing that gap just doesn't cut it.

So I'm hearing talks are going well with Jurgen Klopp, one of my favourite managers. I really hope you don't get him though sorry to say.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. To add to my post a few pages back about NEEDING the champions league to survive next season - we now have probably the best chance we're going to have to get it.

Someone needs to do a cover of this with Klopp.

He's gonna' be an absolute riot:

25. On creating a club identity at Dortmund: "The fans should not only recognise us by our black and yellow jerseys. Even if we play in red, everyone in the stadium should think, ‘Whoa, that can only be BVB’."

24. On Bayern Munich’s philosophy: "At the moment, they are like the Chinese in the business world. They look at what others are doing and copy it, just with more money."

23. On his playing days: "I never succeeded in bringing to the field what was going on in my brain. I had the talent for the fifth division, and the mind for the Bundesliga. The result was a career in the second division."

22. On Mats Hummels being linked with Manchester United: "If that's not a bullsh*t story, I'll eat a broomstick!"

21. On his wife: "She wrote a book for children. It’s like Harry Potter – but it’s about football. There’s no Harry Potter flying on his f*cking stick – just football."

20. On dealing with Dortmund losing their best players: "I got more in life than I was ever supposed to get – family, money, football. None of my teachers, or my parents, ever believed this would happen to me. So how can this perfect life of mine be spoilt because they take our players?"

19. On his early days as manager of Mainz: "We still rely on calling the players and when we make an offer to their agents, they always think that we’re making fun of them."

18. On losing the Champions League final at Wembley: "The only thing I can say is that it was great. London is the town of the Olympic Games. The weather was good, everything is OK. Only the result is sh*t."

17. On Dortmund’s poor form in 2014: "The best news today is that football is over for 2014, any criticism that we receive now is justified. We are standing here like complete idiots and it's completely our own fault."

16. On whether beating Bayern 5-2 in the German cup final could have been any better: "It could have been a bit warmer."

15. On fixture congestion: "It’s as if someone has to play the world chess championship after 72 hours of sleep deprivation."

14. On motivating his team through sarcasm: "I told my players during the break: Since we're here anyway, we might actually play a bit of football."

13. On his singing ability: "I couldn’t have been a rock star, although I do sing Country Road very loudly on the PlayStation karaoke game."

12. On the difference between himself and Arsene Wenger: "He likes having the ball, playing football, passes. It's like an orchestra. But it's a silent song. I like heavy metal."

11. On having a hair transplant: "Yes, it’s true. I underwent a hair transplant. And I think the results are really cool, don’t you?"

10. On the challenges of competing with Bayern Munich: "We have a bow and arrow and if we aim well, we can hit the target. The problem is that Bayern has a bazooka. But then Robin Hood was quite successful."

9. On whether he bans *** before games: "My boys sleep in double rooms the night before the match. I hope that nothing happens…"

8. When asked by a Schalke supporter the secret of winning the league: "How do you explain to a blind person what colour is?"

7. On losing Mario Gotze to Bayern: "He's leaving because he's Guardiola's favourite. If it's anyone's fault, it's mine. I can't make myself shorter and learn Spanish."

6. On winning the Bundesliga in 2011: "When Dortmund last won here 19 years ago, most of my players were still being breast-fed."

5. On signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan: "Mkhitaryan fits us like an **** on a bucket. What he offers is exactly what we need."

4. On Barcelona: "I show my team very often Barcelona but not the way they play. Just the way they celebrate goals. Goal no 5768 in the last few weeks and they go ‘Yeeeess’ like they never scored a goal. This is what I love about football. That’s what you have to feel all the time. Until you die. And then everything is OK."

3. On Hummels being injured: "We will wait for him like a good wife waiting for her husband who is in jail."

2. On dealing with a defeat: "When I gave the first interview, I was very disappointed. After the second one 10 minutes later I was feeling better. In 30 minutes, I’ll probably feel like we won the match."

1. On being sent off: "I'm a bit proud of my first red card as a coach. I approached the fourth official and said: 'How many mistakes are allowed here? If it's 15, you have one more."

He's gonna' get under the skin of opposing managers quickly. Particularly if he has early success. And just love a manager on the sideline with the passion of a fan. Can't wait to see him streaming down the touchline at Stamford Bridge a few weeks celebrating Sturridges winner .....

Could do with some new trabs like ha ha.

His passion will be absolutely adored here. This really is a marriage made in heaven that I can see being a decade long or more one. If you're not a Liverpool fan you'll never understand and probably think it trite when people say there's a uniquely special bond between Liverpool FC and the supporters/ community it serves. But if you are, and have experienced that, you'll fully understand. And this crazy SOB with his passion and charisma fits that to a T. Love the fact he doesn't B/S either and tells it exactly like it is.

Hearing the wait might only be until Thursday. Like a kid a Christmas knowing what you've got but being forced to wait until the day to unwrap it ha ha.

Proud to be a Klopite!

Few of my favorites, couldn't be arsed to copy any more. He comes out with some belters!

As I've said if there's one club I wish Klopp didn't manage then that would be Liverpool but still it'll be great to see him running up and down the touchline again, you simply cannot dislike the man. These quotes are brilliant...
