Although, I do still think had De Gea been in that situation he would have stopped the effort from Rooney going in, but that's not a criticism as DDG is a world-class GK

De Gea would have calmly caught Rooney's shot and said "lol"

Just taking heart that surely over a year and a half into the job and £200 plus million spent, Klopp can't of built a side as bad as what Van Gaal has at yours?

But why should Klopp spend more than 200 Million? Liverpool squad is built by spending more than 200 Million already. Reason why Van Gaal did was to replace all the players after Moyes debacle. Only 6 players survived from Fergie era.

For Liverpool, most the first team is already set. These excuses are becoming even lamer with each passing week. Leicester hardly spent money but Tinker man took them from relegation dog fight to top of the table. You don't have to spend always.

Liverpool team have few weaknesses but everytime people use "These are not Klopp players", it's just laughable. IIRC 8/11 players in Leicester team are not Tinker man' either. They are same from last season but no one uses the same excuses.

Also most of the players in Dortmund team are not Tuchel's either but no one uses that excuse.

Genuine excuse is Klopp took over mid season and didn't have preseason to train his players. 19 points from 14 games is just poor and whatever are the excuses. He is getting easy ride because people were so much frustrated with Rodgers like Van Gaal got easy ride because of Moyes.

Congratulations on the win today mate. The overall game may not of had you deserving it at all. But we can't score for **** or properly defend a corner. You did. You get what you deserve when you're so profligate.

But longer term just how bang average are both clubs at the minute? We're just starting out and this is his first window so we have that. But Van Gaal's blown all that and built nothing like a challenging calibre side. It's gonna' take WAY more than a change of coach to get you back to anything like.

City must be ******* themselves being the only club up here set for any sort of major success any time soon.
A change of coach would tho.

Firstly, lvg can't get the best outta his attacking players. Secondly, he doesn't even know his best starting XI. Even with all the injuries, I'd know better than to put fellaini in a double midfield pivot. He offers next to nothing. He's got zero vision, zero ball retention and a defensive liability. Thats why we couldnt hold the ball for ****. All he offers is just aerial ability.

That being said, I did sense a bit of butthurt in your comment but you need to realize that you can't judge the shape of what lvg has built with just this game. We have lots of key injuries here and there. I think he's done a fine job with rebuilding but he can't get the best outta what he's built. He's taken us as far as he can.

To liverpool, liverpool will be back in a year or 2 under klopp with more players in. Hopefully the good old united-liverpool rivalry comes back to life.

I wasn't. I felt the summer regardless of Van Gaal, your squad was the most realistic to look at replacing the top 4 for us. (Obviously never envisioned Chelsea collapsing.). Seen nothing to change that.

But hey, what would I know. Redoing up apparently most of our first XI is set and being as the previous manager spent big everything should be good as this is nothing like the rebuild Van Gaal had on his hands so yer know. Shrugs.

Glad this ended up early and agreed with bold part.

[useless excuse]250 Million pounds spent on players in 2 years but hey our new manager didn't spend them. So players are useless[/useless excuse].

If only every club worked like this.

Yay. What works for Van Gaal doesn't work for Klopp.

This is a most interesting exercise. Learning a lot ta.

26 years of management changed, club structure changing completely for the first time in years Vs club that changes manager every other season. Yeah, what works for Van Gaal doesn't for Klopp.

Ohhh, can I start flip flopping to keep with a point that was never there to start with?

Not my problem if you can't see it.

Dude, there's notin' to see. You've an opinion. Nothing more. Nothing less. No problem there, everyone's entitled to them. But it doesn't make it some sort of 'fact.'

The opposite opinion is we have nowhere near a quality squad, regardless of what's been spent; and yet again we're mired at the start of a rebuild. (Which, please God, will finally be done right this time or we are well and truly ******.)We have maybe half a first team (if fit) you'd want to work with going forward. Klopp's not getting a pass because Rodgers was so bad. He and we know results have to improve. He's getting a pass for a multitude of reasons. As you mentioned, he's had no pre-season. He's been in the job 4 months. After taking over a team at rock bottom with one win in 9 prior to his arrival. These aren't his players. (Just like at Utd they weren't Van Gaal's and just as big a mess as Van Gaal walked into.). And he's had and is still dealing with a horrendous injury list that has robbed him of the main quality that is in the squad. And within that, there's still been more than enough signs, just like yesterday, to suggest when he does get better players in he'll have this team flying. People are frustrated wth the situation more than annoyed but we see the light at the end of the tunnel with the top class manager we have in place over time.

Nobody's making any 'excuse' for anything that's not there.

Isn't the biggest attribute of good managers (in this case, best manager in the league according to you) is to work with what they have and make the best use of the players?

I don't get this "These are not his players" excuse. Like I said, clubs that change managers often can't use that excuse. I gave examples too to back my point and those are just from 2015-16 season.

He didn't get the pre season with the team is a valid one though but 19 points from 14 league games is poor whichever way you look at.

Not that it's an 'excuse', but it's equally as valid as trying to say it's different from Utd coming off two decades of the same manager.

Still a very average group of players. No matter how much we over paid for them. Still a complete change of how we want them to play football going on.

It just suits your opinion to flippantly say it's ok for one and not the other.

I think the most worrying thing if I was a Liverpool fan right now is realising you have a manager like Klopp but are still signing players like Caulker (albeit on loan) and according to the Mirror you've bid £8m for Shane Long.

I mean surely if you're going to get anywhere under Klopp you have to start targeting a higher bracket of player? No one is going to start miraculously turning around Liverpool's fortune with players like Caulker and Long.

I thought under Klopp it would be a chance to really establish yourself and with his reputation get some players of a higher level in. But if you end up with mediocrity again like under Rodgers you're really no further forward.

Real frustrating that the last week, had we any semblance of competent goalkeeping and defending Wednesday; and the same in a competent finisher yesterday, we'd of had a 6 point haul.

But we have no competent central defenders available, certainly no goalkeeper, and the only reliable forward has a season ticket at the Royal. So all the other good work is ultimately a waste of time.

Just us is what it is and we have to try get better what with what we have to work with.

Lets not go overboard, it's the January window... Was this to happen in the summer then there would be a genuine case to worry

As of now it looks as if targets are not available so Klopp is targeting players to suit a system or to improve weaknesses. In Caulker's case it was defensive cover due to injuries and to add an aerial presence and Long is the energetic, pacey striker Klopp seems to want - again he is looking because 3 of our 4 strikers are injured

Caulker I have no problem with as he's just a short term solution to a desperate situation. For whatever reason, be it clubs knowing we're desperate for defenders, or players just not available in Jamuary; nobody of the right quality who'd be a long term signing was available so he was an experienced, short term answer.

Long I'm hoping is just the media putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5. (L'pool can't score goals. Southampton just off loaded a forward so they can afford to lose one.). If there was an official bid then absolutely it's worrying. That should be no more than another short term loan solution for me.

The summer is more the window to see whether they're going to fully financially back him,

If they don't I don't know where the clubs heading because the current squad is a mess and nowhere near good enough on a consistent basis to compete at the very top.

Long would be perfect for your system tbf, I really have no clue why Benteke or Balotelli was ever bought. They were never the type of striker for Liverpool, even under Rodgers.

My point is mainly right now, I wouldn't worry too much about results or anything like that because if we're realistic everyone knew this Liverpool squad was unlikely for top 4.

But the main worry for a Liverpool fan IMO should be what you're trying to build under Klopp. The signings really are crucial in terms of what you are going to do and aim for under him. The summer is the real time to tell but I genuinely think that will be a massive window for both manager and club.

Considering teams like Watford and Leicester have shown how effective 4-4-2 can still be in the Premier League. I think your best hope of ever getting Benteke or Balotelli for that matter (if he comes back) to work is by getting in a player like Long and partnering these upfront together. But I seriously doubt Klopp would switch to 4-4-2 considering it would basically negate Coutinho and Lallana. But you're not really getting the best out of Lallana or Coutinho now anyway so it's an interesting thought.

I might be wrong but I think he defo wants to play two up top. But he's just not had the players healthy to do it.
