Well, I honestly neither know nor care. I was reading something earlier about the FIFA solidarity payment mechanism (never heard of that before) which apparently 5% has to be deducted from the net fee to be distributed between a players clubs up until 23. Granted that's only £ 3 million or so, but that could account for some of the disparity. If this leaked document is even official which neither club has commented on.

Again, the only frustrating concern, as it was at the time, is how low the fee was, even if it was £75 million. In that market off the season he came off and stature he'd elevated himself to, that was pitifully low.

I'm still ****** we didn't work a deal for cash + Sanchez.

Baffled.

Paul Joyce the latest to suggest Mario Gotze to Liverpool looks very likely for around 20mil.

Also suggests we are close to signing Jonas Hector, the full back from Koln also. Would be a fantastic start to the summer

£20 million?

That would be the bargain of the Century and then some. Can't be so low surely can it?

Not really a bargain of the century at all (or even bargain of the last 12 months), as he has been frozen out under Guardiola, partly due to middling performances, partly because he simply doesn't fancy him. Cut price, but then Bayern fans argue he cost too much in the first place. Then again Bayern arent stupid, they could still draw £30m from any prem club, would make little sense to go that low.

That said 2 issues with this story

1) it's Paul Joyce, who is horrible
2) Gotze is yet to talk to Ancellotti, who may yet want to keep him and restore him to a more leading role.

Bayern fans can argue as much they like, if he was under a long term contract on the open market you could quite probably double that £60 million and more. Even at £30 mill it seems a ridiculous bargain to me even given the circumstances of going into his last year.

That said, I take most everything rumour wise with a pinch of salt until it's actually confirmed.

You couldn't, because he hasnt played anything like a £60m rated player for 18 months. Gotze is going to be on the market BECAUSE his value is likely to be be lower. he's played worse than his £36m original signing, even account for more money acround (which only affects the English clubs) he wouldnt have almost double his value by playing worse.

£60m would put him in the same bracket as players who utterly outstripping him in performances: Griezmann, Reus, Aubameyang, Myhkitharian (sp), KdB last season.

I'd beg to differ what the market would be for a player of his ilk from certain clubs but as he's not under a longer contract it's all hypotheticals as it's not happening.

Be exceptionally made up if he does end up wearing red next year anyways. Whatever the price or perceived value.

Both Cies and transfermarkt have never values Gotze above £45m. Only an appoximation, though ones with a lot of detail going into it. But still some way off the 60m. That was Feb 2014, shortly before the start of his struggles under Pep, but he was still turning it on for Germany

I actually agree with Mike, and Gotze was one of my top 3 favourite players in the world before he moved to Bayern - still a big fan, but not quite as much since he defected. He hasn't done enough at Bayern, and maybe you could say if he had 3 years left he'd be worth 40-50m at a stretch, but that's based on promise rather than actual performances for Bayern. In saying that, 30m is pretty fair value in my opinion, and at 20m we'd be mad to say no.

By all accounts we had a deal in place with Barca along those lines but the player scuppered it. Sanchez just wanted London and wouldn't move.

Can't really blame Ayre for that. But then he went and got low balled. Which he can be blamed for!

I just hope that IF we sign Gotze, that it isnt a replacement for Phil!

Since he's been a Liverpool player I've always thought he would end up at Barca, just suits that style of play so well. I'm just hoping it doesn't happen this season.

And unless we seriously get something sorted, even if it isnt this season it will be the next.

Seen loads about this Zielinski too, from what I've seen of him (not much) And his highlight videos, he doesn't look too great.

Suppose it worked out for Klopp last time he signed a Polish player though...

Tony Barrett the latest to join the Gotze talk.

20mil may seem low, but he has one year left on his contract and is not a first team player currently. Toni Kroos went for a similar amount being a key player for them because of the contract situation.

The other stuff is more interesting, Zelinski also interested in a move, good player.

Indeed. 30m would have been about right, 20m is a good deal. No doubt Klopp will build the team around him, should he move.

Which is what Gotze wants

Big talent, but in Empoli they play christmas tree formation, which gives him a lot of defensive cover and freedom to attack. With 2-man midfield he struggles a bit.

What type of player is Zielinski? Don't watch Italian footy.

Gotze's an odd one, obviously a great player, gets along with the manager etc, but his position isnt the one I'd be clamouring for. Gotze would NEED to play #10, he's **** out wide, Cou can play on the left pretty well, does that mean Firminho is put on the right or up top?

Depends on what you do with your forwards in the summer

I actually quite like the idea of Coutinho on the right so that he doesn't always cut inside and shoot from 30 yards! Left more natural for him though and moments of magic like the United goal probably wouldn't happen from the right wing, but he might be a more effective playmaker.
