Speechless. No condemnation. No apology. Just a vein justification of what its about. Forget the connotations of it all. Forget professional players singing about about fans being beaten up (still mad that one as Kiev couldn’t have been friendlier), and fellow professionals being injured. Lets just (falsely) defend the meaning behind it and say theres no problem as our ******** ‘fans’ sing it.

Weird, strange breed with their L’pool obsession.

Absolute disgrace of a football club period.

Honestly, I'm not surprised. At both the sort of song and also the absolutely ridiculous defence of the meaning of it.

Its Manchester City. They are a great team on the pitch and exactly the opposite off it. As a club; the less said about them, the better. Let them be; football has a great way to balance things... one day...

And Sterling can go F himself again.

I had a lot of empathy and support with/ for him over the racism fight but not a peep about his own disgraceful teammates singing about acts of violence on innocent people. Wherever they try flip that to. And we all know what 'victims' refers to.

Hypocriticite isn't the word.

You're both unbearable and increasingly paranoid sets of fans. Constantly spending time trying to claim the moral high ground on each other. You both have a minority fan fanbase who are a disgrace, and a majority who are fine. The rest is noise.

Pray tell where we’re narking/ singing about City every F game? They’re the ones madly obsessed with us over the last few years. And it’s not a minority. Utd are our rivals in Manchester. They’re just trying to manufacture a rivalry that never has been and never will be there.

But regardless, this is the F football club. Not their support. And that can’t be condoned or excused in any way, shape or form.

Nothing shy of an absolute disgrace.

Not a word on the City players disgrace. And the club compounding it.

Just a gif vainly trying to compare fanbases. Enough said.

Coz i dont give a ****. Its a ridiculous thing to get in a twist about, what am i gonaa do about it? stop your fans fighting in the streets, stop our players singing? Fuaxoutrage everywhere.

Wouldn't get into slagging off clubs. Liverpool recently celebrated the life and death of former captain Smith, a man who was racist until his dying day, and never apologised for targeting his own team in what others concerted racist bullying. So no club is perfect.

And what relation does that have to this again?

You wouldn’t advise slagging off other clubs. Yet you just did. You can’t condone something with something else. You know better than that.

The song is mean and players are bad for singing it. Feel better?

As he's been mentioned, this was something I wrote elsewhere the Friday Smith passed. I don't think I posted anything here but forgive me if this has already been on these here pages. This difference in being able to realise and condemn your own when something's inherently wrong.

.....

I've spent the last few hours pondering this and I'm still completely mixed on it. Not least as I don't wish to be a complete hypocrite after slating Chelsea 'fans' high and low for their latest disgrace the past 24 hours.

On the one hand, Tommy was a bona fide L'pool legend. I grew up on stories of wonder of this absolute colossus who was the archetypal 'Scouser on the pitch.' A lad straight out the Kop, one of Shankly's favourite sons, who'd run through brick walls for the club and give every last ounce he had to defend our honour. The working class hero made good off the same streets as yourself.

On the other, by all accounts, he wasn't a nice fella' at all in many ways. Not least with his overt, racist views. Which came up again in the lead up to Munich in the way he made Howie Gayle's, who hated him with a passion, life a misery at Anfield.

I mean I get that Tommy and his ilk were from a completely different era when that was perfectly acceptable. But it doesn't excuse him. He was Alf Garnett bad with some of the things on record. (Not wanting to live next to anyone black/ his daughter to have anything to do with anyone black et al.). Made worse by the fact that he never saw the inherent wrong in that. I mean, we've all done and said stupid things we badly regret. No less at the match. Utd and Munich as a youngster at the match when you followed the bigger lads to fit in springs glaringly out for me and something I deeply regret. But then you mature, grow-up and realise what's right and wrong. A lot of Smithy's generation never has.

I'm saddened and sorry that he's passed. I'll forever be grateful for all he gave to our club and City. But the revelation of Howard's experience at his hands really soured me as to classing Tommy as a true L'pool legend.

If I'd found out this tea-time Kenny or Rushie etc had passed, I'd be in bits. Tommy, I'm not feeling that emotion at all when I weigh up his dark side against his on-field exploits. Which is the saddest thing of all to me. But some things are just bigger than a footballing hero you should be cut up and devoed over because he's Scouse.

I appreciate I'm probably in the minority in that but just sharing my thoughts on this evening's sad news.

God rest.

I dont know football culture and singing so well. But I cant seriously think that they where singing with this purpose that media is making it out. The words can be referenced to those events but I dont want to belive they where singing with that reason.

It is unclear which players and staff - if any - are joining in the singing.
The song - which City described in a statement as a "regular chant during the 2018-19 season" - recalls Liverpool's defeat in last year's Champions League final in Kiev.
It cites fans being "battered in the streets" and "crying in the stands" and includes a line on Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah being injured - but with the original culprit, Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos, changed to City defender Vincent Kompany.
However, many of the party only join in at the "Allez, Allez, Allez" chorus.

Sounds like half the plane wasnt even arsed.

Don't attempt to defend the indefensible mate. As City have unbelievably tried to do.

I'd just be repeating most of this going through it to answer your post so I'll leave another very good commentary that explains perfectly why it's so inherently wrong for the players to be doing that and the club to not be apologising and condemning it:

If you think that was slagging off then your reading comprehension is terrible.

The whole point is that fans need to really can the moral high ground stuff. It's nonsense, and doesn't make you better fans

Fans taking what now Mike? Seriously?!!!!!

So lets flip that. L’pool players are caught on film, singing ***** about Munich. The club then defends it, and says ‘oh, it wasn’t that tragedy they were mocking. It was another Munich incident.’ You wouldn’t be disgusted and have nottin to say?

Behave mate. Please. You’re sounding more embarrassing than your fellow mod here with this whole ridiculous line you’re taking.

These aren’t ******* fans. These are alleged professional football players acting disgracefully, mocking tragedy’s and a lad who’s liable to never get his life fully back again. Or as the club narrative goes, ‘it wasn’t that, just lads getting battered in Kiev.’ Like thats any better!

To try turn it into a fan ******* contest on who’s more righteous is a madly stunning take.

It’s got F all to do with fans and EVERYTHING to do with human decency and a club acting the furthest thing from that.

Any other songs you wanna change the meaning of?

You're not talking to a know nottin ******* behind a screen who never goes the game, doesn't know the score, and who'll pander to your B/S mate. You and I both know EXACTLY the connotations of those words so let's cut the ****.

I've stood enough times at the Ethiad, in what is one of the most unsegregated and wild home/ away ends in the league where pretty much anything goes, and your knobheads look for it every game, to have had more than my fill of anti-Hillsborough ***** rammed down my throat by pretty much everyone around that divide to know the meaning behind 'victims.' Utd and Everton use it that way and every other low life fan base who think's it's 'fun' to mock death and point score follow suit. 'Battered on the streets isn't aimed at Sean ***? It certainly has F all to do with Kiev as that was nottin' but a massive party and the single best organised, friendliest European Cup final of the 5 I've personally attended by far.

But let's say, for the sake of a F up argument, it isn't. So that makes it sound then hey? Our players are just singing about some innocent Liverpudlian getting 'battered on the streets. Not the lad who'll never recover from his attack.' Alrighty then, that's sound when you put it like that ..... Seriously. That's the most F up of F up arguments. And to have it come out from the football club as justification is beyond despicable.

But again, I'm not really arsed what you lads want to sing. The complete irony of Liverpool walloping you on the way to a final you take such joy in us losing is totally over your heads. You have this F weird obsession with us which just is what it is. I never called the knobheads on the Sky piece 'classless' either. That was one of the Utd lads who was apparently disgusted by you too.

But when it comes to the players singing that *****, and worse, the football club openly condoning it and disgracefully trying to justify it by not being about one thing but another, THAT'S when EVERYONE should have a problem.
