Been surprised by the reaction to the quality of the game back home TBH. Silly when you consider everything in context. Not least after a three week break and the heat and humidity. Made worse on the pitch with the crowd on top of you.

I'm loving the fact it's a heck of a lot cooler in Qatar December for the World Club Cup than it is now as it was stiflingly hot and humid in Madrid. I love warm weather and like most Scousers I'm all over any sun but that was unbearable Sat'day. Kudos to all 22 players and however many subs were used for playing in that heat.

Personally thought we defended magnificently. First half in particular Tottenham were having to work SO hard to just move 15/20 yards up the pitch, Our shape was superb and the passing lanes just weren't there. And it was what, 70/75 minutes before Alisson had a serious save to make? (How the heck wasn't he MOTM BTW?). We kept Tottenham at arms length superbly.

Surprised how our legs went around 60. (I thought theirs would first. They were really blowing the first half.). But all things considered I wouldn't criticise any player for that given the heat, the work they put in, the break and the emotion's of the magnitude of the biggest game in the sport draining you mentally.

Said walking upto the ground ALL that mattered was winning. However it was achieved. Really mature display to win comfortably without being anywhere near our free flowing best.

This side has evolved evolved so much this year and is still nowhere near it's ceiling. Which must be seriously frightening if you're the rest of Europe looking on trying to match the best team on the Continent once again.

It was played like the first game of preseason no momentum and I felt slightly sorry for the spurs players who the majority were unfit. Then again its a final and if we have to hoofball to win the game then so be it.
 
I like me a good game of football chess, but this wasn't even that, it was just a bad game period. Instead of two teams at their peak performance, we got two teams who were lacking legs and match sharpness. Ann then the ridiculous penalty killed the game within first couple of seconds.

One of the worst finals I've ever seen in my entire life. At some point started browsing the internet and just had audio running and peaking to the game every once in a while if commentators were indicating there is actually something interesting about to happen.

As a neutral it was miserable experience.

Blame the PL who for some reason cant sync up with the other leagues and UEFA who for some reason bog up the football calendar (Nations league I mean come on who cares). Add the heat and humidity it was a game that was destined to be *****. Heck even Robbo who is usually a Duracell rabbit up and down the flank looked leggy after one play were he was overlapping Mane. You know its bad when you dont want to watch even the highlights of your teams CL final win.

Liverpool played Benfica's B team in Marbella before the Champions League final. Turns out it was more than just for fitness reasons, it was specific tactical preparation. I translated some quotes from Renato Paiva (Benfica B manager) who talked to newspaper ABola about it.

Renato Paiva: "They couldn't pick an English team due to information leaks, they couldn't' peak a Spanish team because Poch spent a lot of years in Spain, they couldn't pick a French team because Lloris is France's goalkeeper. So they had to go with a Portuguese team.

Liverpool lined up the start XI for the Final and asked us to not tell strictly nothing until the day. We received a lot of compliments, at the morning of the game nobody knew anything. we feel pride of ourselves for the invitation, for being in that enviroment.

Liverpool advisor told us: ‘Would like to thank your professionalism because we know that when anyone sneezes at Benfica it becomes news in Portugal. You’re here since Thursday and there wasn’t one single news [leaked]".

Speak for yourself d. Can't personally get enough of watching and re-watching/ reading highlights/ gifs/ tweets/ articles et al from Saturday and the mind-blowing parade Sunday.

Why I'm just adding bits here and there. Just haven't had the time for being immersed in reliving this magnificent 6th haha.
 
Now their long known departure is 'official' news, a quick note and thanks to Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge:

Alby will be sorely missed around the changies. Guys with his positivity, constant smile on their face, joking around and keeping everything light and fun are an invaluable asset to the dynamic of a team. And he's been a real popular lad right through his time here down to that by all accounts. And we're losing someone who's also been a real good bridge for any Spanish/ Portuguese speaking players in helping them assimilate into the squad.

Just a daft, real likeable lad who sadly never fulfilled the great potential he arrived with from Seville as he never learned from his mistakes nor improved his game his time here. Much to the coaches angst I have no doubt as the attributes have always been there. But his work rate and commitment to the cause, without complaint, could never be questioned.

Daniel is just a real sad case of a top, top talent unfortunately not having the body to match and withstand the rigours of todays game. Absolutely scandalous and ridiculous the amount of times he's had his attitude and commitment called into question when his physical make-up just sadly wouldn't allow him to do what he wanted. But what absolutely superb memories he leaves behind with the goals over the years and the records he set. Top bracket, World class talent. That certainly isn't open to debate. Up there with most great L'pool strikers in terms of pure ability. (His touch and natural finishing were better than Suarez. But the narrative and inability to stay healthy will tell you otherwise.). That goal the outside of his foot final in Basle against Seville man. Not many players the World would even of thought of doing that. Never mind executing it so quickly:

Made up, as much as Alby was never a favourite, both of them got to end with the biggest and best winners medal in football Saturday in Madrid. And I sincerely thank both for their service to the cause here and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. Wherever they may be.

I agree, barely done anything else but watch the game, goals, celebration read, gifs etc.

This was an extremely professional performance. I have zero issues with the nature of the win. For all the talk of Spurs heart etc. They mostly shot from distance, except that Dele Ali header. It was a solid defensive performance.

I had a Blue yesterday seriously arguing that Pochettino had schooled Klopp tactically but had no luck.

The same Klopp who, aside from anything else, beat Pochettino for the third straight time this season in one of the most comfortable, tactically astute performances we've had in a final in a long time. (First clean-sheet in a EC Final in what, 9 years?). Proper big boy football with the game killed from when we scored the opener and Tottenham comfortably held at arms length.

His fume was madly hilarious, even for the Ev.

But regardless of it not being a free-flowing spectacle, we're the best side in all of Europe again and there's NO better feeling than that. That high is going to carry you on a wave all through the summer and right through next season.

World cup final 94 probably the worst final I've ever watched live.
