Well that was an emotional, and ultimately satisfying, way to end 2025 on a positive and continue the momentum into the NY.

Title Defence Countdown:
10 wins down/ 17 to go.
32 points down/ 57 to go.
Current PL unbeaten run:
P 6 W 4 D 2 F 12 A 6 CS: 2
3 Straight Wins.
Current unbeaten home PL run:
P 3 W 2 D 1 F 5 A 2 CS: 1
2 Straight Wins.
Let’s start with this factual statement that sets English football apart from any other Country. And makes our league the hardest of any league to win:
There are
NO easy games in the PL.
Now, Wolves at home, who had taken a pitiful 2 points from 51 going in, drawing 1 and losing 7 of their 8 away games, whilst being on course for a historical PL low points total season, should be as easy as easy gets. ‘
SHOULD.’ But football isn’t, and never was, played on paper and rarely, if ever, goes to a perfect script ….. Since Rob Edward’s took over back in November, Wolves have had 3 away PL games. All against three of the current top 4. Aston Villa. Arsenal. And now Liverpool. Losing 0-1, 1-2 and 1-2 respectfully. The most comfortable victory of all those games was Liverpool’s yesterday. Do you think Aston Villa or Arsenal fans are remotely A about the performance in those wins? Do you think Aston Villa or Arsenal fans are remotely calling for the head of their manager after those far tighter than expected wins? Managers who haven’t delivered what Arne has, the league title. Despite being in the job 4 and 6 seasons respectively to Slots 2? ….. Those are rhetorical questions as the answer is a definitive ‘
NO!’ On both counts! So why are many on-line/ across SM, doing the exact opposite when it comes to our manager?
There are
NO easy games in the PL.
Arsenal and City were both very unconvincing in beating Brighton and Forest respectively yesterday by the same 2-1 scoreline. Two bottom half sides they were expected to comfortably beat. But they won. Which is
ALL that ultimately matters. Not least over the congested festive period. And the same goes for Liverpool. Ultimately, job done and three points is
ALL that matters.
Yesterday was the preverbal game of two halves. Some of L’pool’s play and intensity was fantastic first half. 2 great goals. Woodwork hit twice. Countless other chances missed. They should have gone in at the break 3 or 4 up. ‘
SHOULD.’ But football rarely goes as it should. And one of L’pool’s biggest Achilles Heal this season, our complete inability to defend set pieces, lets Wolves back in to a game they should have been well out of. And then the game becomes more nervy than it ever should have been. Through a combination of our own, self inflicted mistake. And the mere fact that the XI who started, are more or less ALL we have to roll with. With limited bench options to change. So tiredness naturally creeps in and the last 25, without having the legs to get up and down and chase a third, they naturally sat in and made it a lot harder than the game ever should have been.
I honestly don’t think tactics had much of a part in that as much as tiredness and the way the game went. First half, you could see just how exciting this side can become once everyone’s available and up to speed with each other. The interchanging on the left between the really good pairing of Kerkez and Jones, and the outstanding Wirtz, was fantastic. Frimpong’s overlaps the other side adding equal threat both flanks. I mooted this in the summer that I believed the idea was for us to evolve back to pushing both FB’s high as major attacking threats like Arne did at Feyenoord when we signed two of the top attacking fulls in Europe. And we are now starting to see that evolution. With an interchanging, dynamic, high energy midfield facilitating that. All with Wirtz looking more and more like the best U23 player in the World pulling strings and looking more and more dominant and influential by the passing game. An absolute dream of a footballer whose technique is matched by his intelligence. Two steps ahead of everyone else on the park. With Hugo as bright as ever upfront. When Alex is back, and everyone is on the same page, you can see just what an exciting attacking unit we will transition in to. All the best trying to shut us down.
But on the flip side, right here, right now, you still have some kamikaze defending. (I won’t start on Konate or else I’d never stop …..

). And a serious set piece issue that ultimately is fixing to undo everything currently. And when tiredness sets in, they become laboured and sloppy. You could question their continued, shaky confidence and mentality to set-backs and adversity. But then that very same mentality has them on a run of 4 straight wins and 7 games unbeaten. Finding ways to win regardless. Growing positives among the still glaring negatives with each passing game. By no means perfect. But certainly moving in the right direction to end 2025 in a heck of a lot better way than it was looking a month or two back.
And as much as I love Chiesa, yesterday showed why the manager views him as an impact sub when legs are tiring rather than a starter. He just doesn’t have the pace anymore since the ACL to get away from players and separate himself. Which is a staple requirement this league up top. He was by no means bad yesterday. Just limited. But when legs are tiring, he’s busy and intelligent enough to be an effective menace. Far from Slot disrespecting him/ treating him unfairly et al, this is, in my humble, more down to the type of player Freddy now is since the injury and what his best role for the team is.
As historically bad as the current refereeing crop is, Simon Hooper continues to show he has
NO peers when it comes to base incompetence. Yet another abject display of proper ineptness from the baldy bleep!
And lest we forget the even bigger thing yesterday than a mere game of toger-
Wolves fans were an absolute credit to their club and City in the 18th minute. And they doubled down by joining us in their perfect response on 20. The loudest it’s been all season. Yesterday was emotional. Going to Wolves will be emotional. It’s an omnipresent emotion that has, and continues to, affect them and us in different ways and at different times. But we are starting to heal and come out the other side stronger. Together.

2025 gave us the highest of highs. One of the best days of our lives clinching one of the best of this clubs 20 titles. And the lowest of lows with the Jota brother’s tragic passing this past summer.
And now we enter 2026 on a nice run of momentum. Knowing performances will come to match results the more we gel and believe in each other again.
There are
NO easy games in the PL.
But by heck it makes the end result all the sweater when you come through the unprecedented adversity we have. To now having
SO much to look forward to in 2026 together with our manager and team.
All the best to each and every last one of you out there. Wherever you are across the globe. May 2026 bless you all with good health and happiness.
Roll on Leeds Thursday for the next step in this journey.
Up the Top 4 and climbing Reds!
