Well we missed out on Benatia who went relatively late in the window, if we had of swooped earlier would of been possible.

Mangala looks a terrific defender and was very reluctant to join City but eventually did due to nothing else.

Yes of course we can't, but the reality is we badly needed a CB and you can't expect the likes of Blackett to develop with no authoritative figure in that defence next to him, like Vlaar.... in my opinion Vlaar would of been perfect for a few years. while Smalling/Jones/Blackett hopefully can develop.

At the moment Blackett is still very raw and Jones/Smalling constantly pick up injuries.

Only when Bayern became interested which was late in the window when they had injuries. If we had of done it earlier rather than last few weeks in August it could of been done.

No it was dead in the water as soon as it came out he would only join a club with CL.

Well yes but if you do that and if you re leading 3-1 and still playing such a high line then surely its LVG's fault also ...?

We have to learn to defend. It's as simple as that. Granted it didnt help we lost Evans, were completely comfortable till that, and Evans and Jones are lights ahead of the rest. But they have to learn, and sharpish

We're all still pretending if we think them defenders match the quality we have higher up the pitch.

You can't rely on Jones until he stops picking up niggly injuries and to be honest, I think he's just one of them players, so if he doesn't he'll never reach his true potential but yes he's started the season well.

Evans is not a natural commanding CB or leader in my eyes, however he can be a solid CB on his day, but he can also often make mistakes.

Lets just admit we could of signed a CB if we waved some cash like we did with Shaw, Rojo, Di Maria, Falcao and Blind. Even if it was Vlaar.

Considering how much we spent, its clear we didnt want to spend any more.

LVG had his CB target and couldnt get him
 
These same defenders did perfectly acceptable when Vidic played about 5 games in 2 years, Rio was on the wane (he admittedly had 1 good season, the one before last) and Evra was on a massive downward spiral. Were we the perfect defensive outfit? Not at all, but we still won the title. We should be addressing why our current defenders have regressed so much since the Fergie era, rather than attempting to throw money at it. What commanding, English speaking, world class CB are we going to buy, anyway?
 
I would sooner wait for LVGs targets to become available, or decides who would be good for the team then just splashing the cash for the sakes of it tbh.

Maybe not, but we could live to regret it come the end of the season if our defence is like it seems to be. There is no magic fix in January either.

I still think biggest mistake we made was letting Vidic go, maybe he isn't the same player, but his presence and leadership alone would be amazing to still have. Just like Terry for Chelsea.

Whether Rojo is even going to be a CB yet... I'm not so sure... like to think we haven't spunked £20m on a LB cover for Shaw.

After watching Vidic at Inter this season im not sure he would make any difference tbh! And Rojo was signed as a left footed CB mate.

Considering Shaw hasnt been able to play, its been a pretty good idea to have Rojo...
