The Manchester United Thread

Leicester yeah give you that one, meh against liverpool imo just incredibly lucky and clinical but i can see why people would rate that performace and the everton is one i can't recall apart from the saves but i'll take your word on that one but then again in hindsight we got away with it a little against them (de gea saves and pena miss) who have been shocking this season.
LMAO its gonna be a long time till may :( I only hope for better next season :) So we can see the meltdowns in the other threads :P

Playing safe has cost us points and allowed other teams back into the mix for top 4. It's allowed Southampton to get to 3rd. If you don't trust your defence, utilise your attack. Our attack is full of quality players yet we're sacrificing to put an extra man at the back. Goals win games, defences win titles. But we're not going for the title. Van Gaal in his stubborn ways have nullified our attacking threat, and that has spread a lack of confidence. Falcao, Wilson, Di Maria all looked confused and frankly clueless. For a lot of them it's been a recurring theme.
I agree but its a tough one as I don't think we would be unbeaten in 13 if we played 4 at the back but that's just me.

Takes me back to how good fergie was, remember when we were bollocking teams and then city destroyed us? he then setup us up to be tough to beat and we went on a run of 1-0's etc etc.

I can't see LVG changing so swiftly like that and us going on a run of swashbuckling football.

Nah i'm still on the we won't finish top 4 train, plus i have a small bet with a neutral cousin. Obviously i'd rather give him 20 quid and us get top 4 like he thinks.
I have done the same at work. Had a tenner that we will finish higher than Spurs with some Spurs fan. And had 20 quid that Utd will finish 4th with a Pool fan.

Exactly mate. If Moyes had lost 4-0 to Mk Dons, their would have been a mutiny in the Old Trafford stands.

Does that really surprise you?

One of them has an impressive record and eventually brought major trophies everywhere he went.

The other is middle-club manager, and a ginger on top of it.

Even raging drunk people in the stands will think twice to shout "you don't know what you're doing" at someone's with Van Gaal's CV. That's just the way it is.

Same with the backroom. It was always going to be hard for Moyes to win the backroom at United, where even janitors won more titles then he did. It will take a lot more then few odd results for players to start talking behind Van Gaal's back.

The fact that LVG oversaw very succesful transfer window, while Moyes panic bought Fellaini in last hours of the window and bought Mata while having no idea where to play him, also reinforces the overall image that LVG just feels a lot more comfortable in his new role.

Doesnt surprise me. He has a big reputation and that will give him more time. Doesn't mean their should be an excuse for hypocrisy through. At the end of the day, if you don't get the results then people can't blindly keep praising you while criticizing his lesser predecessor for far less last season

Its not really though is it? One: he's actually getting a fair bit of flak. Two: he doesnt just have a rep, he actually has a track record for results.

Yeah, In a perfect world they'd be under exactly the same level of scrutiny. Its not really a perfect world, is it?

You of all people should understand it, considering your manager could walk naked around the Bridge taking a dump on fans cars and it would still probably be celebrated as brilliant mind games to take attention from the team and focus it on himself.

Not sure how he is getting much flak at all. This thread shows that clearly. Imagine the uproar if Moyes lost 4-0 to MK Dons or grinded a 0-0 draw with Cambridhe United. Whereas, LVG for this same results is being defended with a million and once excuses

Exactly, it's not a perfect world and it's only fair for both to be under he same level of scrutiny. **** fans should be harder on LVG because of his track record and the money he has spent but instead, they are making excuses to defend his poor results so far

HAHAHAHA .... To be fair, that would be some pretty good mind games to take away attention from the team

Fair point, i do think many fans and rightly or wrongly are letting LVG have an easier time in comparison to moyes. Again for me i'm only holding gripes with the style of play and yes i know we could play better but concede a ton ala leicetser but surely we can find a balance were our performances and results improve in tandem rather then one or the other.

Also i do still and not just this season but for many years hate our transfer policy if you like, now nothing against certain players etc but we don't seem to be buying players to fit into a certain system for example we had a bunch of numbers 10's yet kagawa would be getting played out wide and then we sign mata, why not just improve our wingers? if lvg wants the 352 why not buy players more suited to the wingback position and better cm's instead of falcao and herrera who imo lvg see's as a number 10 also.

Again not having a go at the players but rather squad balance and what it seems like lack of direction in transfers. You can almost guarantee if falcao doesn't stay and cavani wants out, ed will got for cavani because he will be deemed marquee.

Can we just ban the word "Moyes" from this thread please? It's tedious to go through the same posts again and again after any results.

Not much can be said apart from utter dross and an embarrassment to the shirt they wear but I'm not only blaming the players as I've been really disappointed in LVG, the money he's spent and the team we look now is still nowhere near good enough, he constantly doesn't play Herrera, who was supposedly one of our highlight signings. Di Maria doesn't look worth £20m let alone £60m at the moment.

Everything looks predictable, tempo seriously lacking and we don't have a Roy Keane type figure anymore to rally them instead we just got Fellaini.

All in all, I think it's very fair to start bringing Moyes back into the equation because it's not better now, I don't see a vision anymore, I just see constant disappointment with no style.

Lvg said after the game that he was angry after the last 3 games with the players not playing the way he wants and letting the opponent dictate the way they play. He said he does not want to be angry with players at HT every match, when they do so well in training and not on the pitch. And can still see fear in there play and some low confidence maybe from the past.

Sounds like feeble excuses, considering half of the team at least were not even a part of the Moyes era really Wilson, Falcao, Di Maria, Blind and Rojo.

You want disappointment? Try being an Everton fan right now. Everything right now is b***ocks at the moment.

You're 4th still-7 points off 2nd, 12 points off the top with 48 points still to play for. There's still a looooooong way to go-anything can happen remember
