The Manchester United Thread

Not really. Playing well for one club is doesn't mean you will settle in another.

and coming from a different country doesnt mean you will struggle.

Each to their own but I'd feel far more confident in the success of an acquisition if he was used to our game and proven in it then someone coming to a completely new environment who was totally unproven in the crazy English game.

It's funny old game really because we're all seemingly having a bit of a meltdown about spending £36m for Martial in a very inflated market no doubt.

But 10 years ago or whatever it was, we paid only £6-10m less for Rooney, who whilst had just over season of experience in Premier League. Was a massive gamble at the time in itself as well.

Our best signing walked in from Serie A. Our second best is a legend from the Bundesliga. The game isn't all that different any more.

I can see where you're coming from on that one, but even the context of the league taken into account I still don't think he's as good. The aerial threat of the PL is somewhat overstated IMO.

I genuinely believe he's as good as Navas and would compete for starting place if De Gea deal won't go through.

Isolated examples of which you could just as easily thow up counter ones.

It's a whole other debate that is probably best left as you have far more pressing concerns ongoing transfer wise, but I'd argue the English game is still unique and unlike any other Country.

Mainly down to ourselves as fans who demand it that way.

Took me a few minutes to realise what you were on about haha, i thought you meant of all time.

Not isolated at all. Because it comes down the player in the end, not the league they come from
Unique?! The French league is more aggressive, The Bundesliga is quicker and more intense, and we pass at a similar rate as la liga, though they execute it better. Should mention the italian league still defends better than us.

Most teams in Europe already can play a high tempo press, which used to be our stand out point, and we don't even do that as well any more. There is nothing particularly unique about our league other than the fact we are absolutely ROLLING in cash

We are really not that unique anymore, not on the pitch and not with the fans.

he's the only one who has said this. And LVG wasn't even talking to United at this point.....

Yeah, I was just reading through Twitter comments, and someone sane pointed out that in Spring 2014 Van Gaal wasn't even manager...

So typical Balague.

Out Wide? yeah we only have Sterling, Silva, Nasri, Navas & De Bruyne.
Central Mid maybe in terms of backup. Fernando, Fernandinho, Toure, Delph, Zuclini.

You've got 4 competitions to play for, you're first 11 might give teams a run for there money, but like i said based on the squads over a season, i'd still put United 3rd or 4th.
Nasri, Silva and De Bruyne don't offer any width. That's like saying that Cazorla, Mata, Eriksen, Özil etc are wide players. By wide players, I'm talking of players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Sterling, Pedro etc. The only players with width City have are Navas and Sterling. Of the two, only Sterling possesses enough quality at this level.

Wow! £29m and an adept replacement in Navas. It's a bit of a strange one from Real considering they could've got DDG for free next season but well done United.

Silva creates plenty of width, it's a myth than he doesnt

The proven in premiership carries little weight these days tbh.
I was talking to a few lads the other week about that and they believe all of the 'cold, wet night at stoke' bullshit. They believe that The Prem is wayy supreme and that Messi and Neuer aren't the best ever because they haven't proven themselves in the premier league. In my opinion, the premier league is the best, however the evidence argues that the Bundeesliga and LA Liga are superior based on poor performances in Europe.

That's garbage for a start. Our system and style of play is exactly set up for players like this drift in and out as needed to create width, anyone can see that.

Silva actually moved right to create more width, which resulted in your second goal

He doesn't have pace, he can't beat a man easily and he won't run at full backs on the outside. He does hang near the touchline and passes inside to be a part of buildup play but he isn't like those players.

David Silva can't beat a man?! Jesus, i've heard it all now.

Again, you do not need to beat a man on the outside every time to create width.
