The Manchester United Thread

Thats to be agreed between clubs usually, not sure on the PLC influence on it.

Monaco are gonna shout about it, at the moment they've received a **** load of guaranteed cash for a rookie. If/Until he start producing on a major level, they look like geniuses.

Well, like I say. I'll trust the club on this one and take the attitude of accepting we've got a player who may solve some of our attacking problems rather than no one. Am I confident? That's another story.

Even though it's a big fee undoubtedly, our net spend over the last two seasons and the fact we've actually barely spent any money and released a ton of wages makes this a gamble we simply can afford to take with little risk.

They'll look like geniuses whatever happens. The lad will be more expensive than Zidane if all the bonuses turn up.

£22m up front, the rest comes in yearly instalments for 4 years, totalling £36m. Then there are add on clauses, such as Monaco receiving £5m each time Martial is top scorer, up to £15m. They get £5m if he wins the golden boy award, they get £5m if he wins the Balon D'Or, and so on. By the time he cost us £58m, he'd have earned us hundreds. Its terrible journalism that other fans are spurting at us.

If you look at it the way it should be, because that's what actually the truth is despite what other people are spouting. It doesn't look that bad, in todays market.

Monaco are the definition of unprofessional over this Martial transfer, shocked how they are allowed to just spout out about money. Whatever happened to transfers that were undisclosed? Do United really not have clauses or some kind of agrement with Monaco that they can't speak publically about this? Especially when they are mentioning figures and everything.

Did they publish anything?

Your net spend is -£130 million. Barely spent? LVG has already gone through £252million. Ferguson only spent £550mil in his entire career at OT. lol.

Dont kid yourselves, yes, your squad needed the overhaul, and he bought a new one. Its total cost is only 20mil short of MCFCs to assemble and we've burned through cash all over the place.

But Vasilyev confirmed Arsene Wenger's claim that the figure will eventually rise to £57.6m and said the "unprecedented resources" of British clubs means selling players like Martial is unavoidable.

"It's true that the price for Martial is £57.6m but take into account this sum includes bonuses which are very realistic," he is quoted as saying in The Sun.
"Initially Martial was not for sale, it was absolutely not planned. Since last week United started to make offers which we declined several times – £21.6m, £28.8m, £36m, even £50.4m with bonuses.

[h=2]Right now English football is on a different financial level and if Manchester United decides to buy somebody, it's very hard to stop them.[/h]Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev

"On Sunday the player got such an offer that he couldn't have declined. He asked us to find a solution and on Monday morning Manchester United made an offer to Monaco which the club couldn't refuse.
"It's absolutely unique. It's the price of Luis Suarez or Neymar – the best players in the world.

how does a guaranteed £36 million for a 19 yr old with less than 10 full games under this belt (90 mins played), not look bad, even in this market?

Maybe, but there should still of been some kind of agreement that Monaco can't talk publically about this transfer. We've made these kind of agreements before with clubs over players, when we signed Chicharito for example.

Just sounds a bit insane how Monaco are allowed to talk out openly about the details of a transfer.

At this point, I'm beginning to wonder if you're just addicted to being miserable.

How does even with all the clauses reached does £58m relate to what was paid for Suarez for example? Which was £75m.

Why? It's a very valid point.

The more that comes out about figures from his old club is just going to get in his head if it's being spouted publically.

Not being miserable, it's called making a point. Doesn't effect me in anyway, may effect Martial mentally though.

You literally plucked these figures from thin air?

Even Sky reported our net spend from this season was £33m. Man City's was £125m.

His guaranteed payments alone put him next to James Rodriguez. Golden Boot winner at the world cup.

That better? thats only at the 38, never mind the 58.

Now you're quickly changing your tune, one minute comparing to Suarez and Neymar. Now you've moved to someone else, I won't even bother looking into what they paid because it's pointless.

In this market breaking the deal down for Martial doesn't as bad as media are making out. That was my point, I didn't say it still wasn't big.

That was the quote by the Monaco boss, you posted, not me.

Doesnt matter how its broken down, Its still gonna be a rookie player for a high end price.

I posted it for sunliv because he asked did they release anything publically >.<

For the record I looked at the net spend over last two seasons and it is around £140m so to be fair you wasn't far off. The last summer was the killer it seems considering this one was under £40m.

Manchester City's is £170m for last two seasons.

To be fair though I'm not really interested in getting into games of net spends because it's all in relation to success and commercial deals that the clubs bring in as well which aren't factored crucially.

I'm not having a dig at Manchester City btw, it's just part of the modern game, understandably. If you want success it comes through money ultimately.

Net spend is purely a press/media thing, i dont think any fans argues in the pub 'yeah but we saved..."***"'

Not counting Arsenal ( LOL ) - All clubs spend big to get to the top and stay there, i find arguements to the otherwise pointless, every club has bargains and failures all over the place in order to get a seat at the big table.

No. Guaranteed payments for Martial is 50Million Euros and James Rodriguez was signed for 80 Million Euros.

We overpaid for Martial, no doubt about it and there is no way anyone can defend it. All I can say is hopefully we pay the add ons that are agreed as Martial needs to reach very high level to pay that.
