Not by Monaco he wasnt. sorry my bad, forgot the Madrid transfer.. :lol.

Agreed on part 2.

When Monaco signed him everyone said he was overpriced as he hardly achieved anything but he was showing glimpses of his talent though, especially in few CL games.

Ridiculous transfer fee but I'm glad we paid it. Going by few reports he is excellent young player and will be a top player, better to pay than moan about missing players like him.

Do you think a 'rookie', 18 yo Cristiano Ronaldo would have been cheaper on Tuesday? I don't think so. ;)

Considering Martrial has gone for just under 50% the world record. Yes.

Ronaldo went for a quarter for those wondering..

Few would've moaned about it IMO (Although you never know with United fans). As I've said before Martial certainly wasn't the first name on the "list" and the deal came out of nowhere to be honest. He might turn into a world-class player but I'm still surprised you signed him. Considering the fee paid you could've probably got Alvaro Morata instead.

Why? It's a very valid point.

The more that comes out about figures from his old club is just going to get in his head if it's being spouted publically.

Not being miserable, it's called making a point. Doesn't effect me in anyway, may effect Martial mentally though.

The fees gonna' be a constant regardless.

Every TV game he'll be 'the most expensive teenager in history' or the like. Every time he makes a mistake the fee will be thrown up. not least from Utd fans.

Monaco are doing nothing to add to what's going to be constantly there.

How he deals with the burden is a separate issue but one would hope from Utd's POV you'd spoke to as many former coaches and teammates as possible to see what his character was like to deal with this monumental change in his young life.

Few? If media printed that we negotiated and failed to agree fee and in few years he end up becoming big player then everyone will moan. You can check the Hazard thread on redcafe.

You don't always sign the first name on the list and from what few reported, he was available only when Monaco were knocked out of CL and even their owner confirmed it that it was not on their agenda and they rejected ManUtd's multiple bids.

There are also reports that ManUtd wanted to sign him next season but since many clubs were keeping tabs on him to avoid competition we paid the big fee and signed him.

Also your last line, I don't understand this. Just because we paid xyz for a player doesn't mean we could have bough big player from big club for the same price.

Juventus have already lost big players and they wouldn't have sold him, even if they wanted to Madrid would have signed him back as per their contract.

We could have used that money to bid for Lewandowski but Bayern would have told Woody to shove it.

You literally plucked these figures from thin air?

Even Sky reported our net spend from this season was £33m. Man City's was £125m.

Read it here: - How much did your club spend? Premier League transfer window net spend table | Football News | Sky Sports

Your seriously using sly sports with their bullshit 'sky sources' for figures. according to them lfc have a 10mill net spent which is far from the truth. Transfers are not some simple transactions alot of other factors have to be taken into account.

They are not all accurate on there but I know United's is because I checked it elsewhere. Our net spend is under £40m for this season, staggering really considering the signings we've made.

Seems to be a grounded man who shys away from nightlife and prefers stay in with his family. From what I've read and saw of him in interviews he comes across well.

But all this talk won't help regardless. Expected with a transfer like this so hopefully he'll cope with it.

Obviously if Martial turned into a "world-class" player within a few years and you didn't sign him the press would have a field day, but I'm talking about the present. I don't think the press/fans would've gone crazy about you missing out on a relatively unproven £36m/£58m striker.

Alvaro Morata is nothing special IMO, not bothered we didn't go for someone like him anyway. Even if we did he would of cost £40m+ minimum in this market.

That's what makes it even more of a game than it is. (Regardless of how deep the Utd coffers are.).

They DESPERATELY need proven help up there right now.

Long term, this might be a master stroke. Who knows?

But right here, right now, unless he surprises the heck out of everyone and hits the ground running; all he is, is another very inexperienced, raw body behind Rooney who is a pale shadow of anything he ever was.

He'll have a hard job offering us less than Rooney at the moment. Rooney is an easy benchmark to beat right now, he is awful. Just LVG finds him undroppable because he is captain.

I bet you unless Rooney has a miraculous turnaround, Martial will offer more to the team than him straight away.

Rooney is a shadow of the old player he was, his days are numbered and this season should spell the end unless he delivers.

I'm not talking about now, I'm saying if he end up becoming big player then people will moan that we should have signed him in 2015 when we had chance.

It might backfire also and he end up looking like Bellion but you have to take risks.

Perhaps he's nothing special, but I'm still surprised there wasn't more interest in him from United. Morata's definitely a better player than Martial at this stage and IMO is a very well-rounded striker. It just seems strange to me that you're willing to spend £36m/£58m on Martial but you're seemingly unwilling to bid/spend that on Morata.

Like I told you before, rather have Martial than Glazaers being 36Million richer.

Also we are signing some exciting players for big money which might work out for long term. All our signings bar Bastian are young and have years of service to provide.

Shaw, Depay, Martial, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Darmian, Smalling are all young and will be long term for United.

Alway's been a funny player to peg for me as to his best position.

He's never been an out and out striker. And he's never a natural 10. Sort of a 'tweener who looked at his best when he had license to roam.

But yeah, he's been massively on the wain for 3 or 4 years now. I didn't realise just how bad his game had dropped off until watching him this year. I'm FAR from an England fan, but what he's doing still getting games with the joke scenario of him being in position to break Charlton's record is more unbelievable than him captaining Utd.

No question he shouldn't be playing. But he has to by default because there's nottin' else shy of inexperienced youth or someone playing out of position.

Martial is a multi-function forward though, basically meaning he can fit in to any of the attacking positions.

I bet that is one of the reasons why, I doubt he is going to replace Rooney (sadly) as striker this season so he is going to be moulded elsewhere like on the left or right.

Madrid have buy back clause and will buy when any team tries to buy him. Also he is playing for Juventus and just signed from Madrid. He is very happy getting regular games at Juventus.

All players won't just move because we have money.
