The Manchester United Thread

Who ? Rooney or Hazard ? Rooney is perfect 10, i would keep him there. For that money ( 25-30m) you can buy Modric or Martinez, who would suit United better.

I did mean Hazard. Martinez is too defensive minded to play Giggs' role in CM (almost playing in AM) Modric is way too hit and miss for me, for the price you'd have to shell out for him. Plus the fact he's getting on a bit IIRC.

Glad to see Pogba playing today. Let's just hope all the talk of the last month or so was just agent BS.

Modric hit and miss?! He is one of the most consistent mids in Europe. Also he is 26, and the closest fit in the Premiership to Scholes in his prime.

Martinez is a natural posession based CM, both are far better fits than Hazard.

Fair enough. I thought Modric was closer to 30, but that's just me. The thing with Modric was the stats from last season (Or the season before) of 3 goals and 4 assists - not really what we need, if we are looking for a creative goalscoring midfielder. With the Giggs reference i meant a winger who could also play the creative/attaciking mid role.

Martinez really impressed me, but I see him as more of a Keano style box-to-box mid, as opposed to a creative mid.

In a perfect world we'd get 2 of the 3 listed, but I could see us being outpriced for Modric and Martinez (Since Madrid/Barca are interested in him)

Modric is far more important than his assists. Scholes assist also havent been that high. But what both players do is control the game, and assist the assisters.

Nani gets assists, because Scholes finds him over and over again. Giggs gets assists because Scholes finds him again and again

That is what Modric does for the likes of Bale, Van der Vaart and Lennon.

Think Xavi, in how he controls a game, though obviously not as good.

Let the wingers and forwards get goals and assists, but the man pulling all the strings is a player like Modric, and when his partner is an aggressive but composed passing B2B man like Martinez, then you have a magical midfield. Of course the chances of us getting both of them are almost non-existent. But a man can dream

Spot on Mike. I would say Banega would be good shout, but with his really odd injury, I doubt we'll go after him. I don't hear rumors about Sissoko anymore, what happened to him ? When I watched few Toulose (sp) and France games, he looked very composed and calm. Also, he's decent passer with good shot.

Eden Hazard admits he is flattered to have been watched by Sir Alex Ferguson at the weekend.
The Manchester United chief made the trip across the Channel at the weekend to watch Lille's game at Lyon.
It is widely believed that the reason for Ferguson's presence at the Stade Gerland was to check on the Lille ace.
And the Belgian winger, who is also being tracked by the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, admits he was flattered.
When asked if a move to Old Trafford would attract him, Hazard told Lille daily newspaper La Voix du Nord: "Of course.
"This is a club that excites everyone, but for now my focus is on Lille.
"But yes, it is a pleasure to be watched by one of the best coaches in the world, if not the best."

Hmm, I would like to believe we are chasing this guy as I believe he is going to be a top draw player, not quite sure he is a Scholes replacement though.

Let's hope it doesn't get bogged down because of wages or anything.

I am trying to think of EPL clubs which Eden Hazard has not praised this season :P. He is certainly keeping everyone guessing as to his potential destination

Hazard would be a very good replacement for Giggs, I kinda like the look of Hamsik as well, not sure whether he could fill Scholes shoes or whether he would even fit in the system we play. I would go for Eriksen to replace Scholes at end of season personally.

Hamsik is far to inconsistent to replace Scholes.

M'Vila hands down bring him into the squad and we'll continue to trounce those blue Ninny's.
