The Manchester United Thread

Ugh, McNair... such a bad defending. Not as bad as against PSV, but still terrible. And now Powell comes on. Oh boy.

Well this is dreadful, though you can't expect great results when you have to feature a reserve-reserve backline.

Can't use that as any type of excuse against Bournemouth.

Bournemouth aren't exactly a reserve team. It's a acceptable excuse. 4 players that have never played together, and barely have any first team experience. Most teams would struggle defensively in that kind of situation.

If you want to blame anyone, it should be the attackers. Again we couldn't finish.

I could use that excuse against Championship sides. Because even they would roll over all the u-21 teams from the Prem, And u-21 is basically what United had on the pitch.

The resources of Utd compared to Bournemouth it's no type of acceptable anything and I'll leave it at that and leave you all to debate the why's and wherefores of what's wrong or not right now.

The resources of Utd compared to Bournemouth

Don't be silly. They could have resources of Bill Gates, and it wouldn't change jack **** when entire backline didn't start to shave yet.

Before the game even started, I would happily take the draw. Its a **** result, but hardly unexpected.

Please for the love of god, somehow become the manager of Liverpool, and then send out a bunch of under 21's to play vs a newly promoted team and see how well you do. You seem to think that just because Man Utd have a higher quality of players overall, that you can forget about consistency, match experience, teamwork and all that ****. And that they have no impact on how someone plays on the pitch.

WTF does the resources Utd both have not only at their disposal in general but on the actual pitch today against a Bournemouth team that not only doesn't have them, but is injury hit to heck in key players themselves nullifying any weakened team excuse have to do with Liverpool?

But hey, you want to take it there be my guest. Another reason to say, AGAIN, I'll leave you all to debate the why's and wherefores of what's wrong or not right now.

As a United supporter of course I wanted United to win, but as a football fan I thought the match was good spectacle to watch. Also before everyone criticize United performance, I've thought considering such a young inexperience side they played okay. Plus lets not take away great/brilliant/excellent performance by Bournemouth also considering they also are down to the bare bones as well. Congratulations to Eddie Howe and his boys. And I've been critical of Louis van Gaal tactics of late, but this time I thought that team played better today going forward.

You just completely ignored my whole point. Okay mate.

I admit that going through the wiki is a terrible indication of a persons important to a team, but judging by the amount of appearances the injured players have for Bournemouth, the most notable person would be their Captain. The rest seem to be bench players. Now compared that to Man Utd who have all their first team back four injured. It's a big difference. We also have our Captain out.

Like I said before, say **** about our attack. We were poor in front of goal again. But don't say that having our whole back four decimated is nothing and not an excuse.

Completely agree. You've been far better going forward the last two games. Chances missed but at least you made them to be missed again which is a positive.

I've been one of those supporters lately who not been happy with the way we been playing and criticizing Louis van Gaal tactics, but I've given some thought and last season under Louis van Gaal we were to open at the back and couldn't keep possession before ball came back at us to quickly, so we relied on David de Gea to bail us out of a situation, who had a good season last season. But this season Louis van Gaal has tight up at the back and we are keep possession now, but when opens up his tactics to play more attacking, we don't seem to be as tight at the back. How many those pundits who are criticizing United possession tactics this season were criticizing United last season are being useless in defence and relying on David de Gea. Plus how many pundits have said in the past that the first job of a new manager in a new job is to start at back first with the defence? (walk before you can run), and sort out the core of the team through the middle of team etc. Not just that how many pundits have said in the past why can't English players and English clubs keep possession when they play foreign clubs or counties unlike foreign counterparts. I think it's a shame that Louis van Gaal is as old as he is, because if he stayed on longer into his project we might see the benefit of his tactics and training methods (contract expires summer of 2017). He is try to bring United into modern era of football with tactics keeping possession and the Dutch way of training with players being adaptable to play in different positions ,a tactical awareness to change during a match and movement with the ball or without the ball etc.. And we have been spoiled with Sir Alex Ferguson way of playing by attacking football and putting opposition on the back foot. I have been very frustrated watching them this season. Being realistic after Liverpool dominated the late seventies and the early eighties they haven't the league again yet, look how many managers they've been through trying to find the right manager to win the league again. I hope we don't go as long as we did between Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson before we win the league again. Also if we look back at Sir Alex Ferguson reign he did struggle to find the right formula earlier on in his reign and brought a lot of players and got rid of a lot as well before he found the right formula. Also the first crop youngsters came in called Fergie's fledglings before he produce the class of '92 that came through the ranks during injury period at Old Trafford. I personally would put up with indifferent results if he was using the youth system and producing a younger team playing modern style of attacking/possession base football than buying fifty million plus players. So own my verdict is we must patience with Louis van Gaal at least until his contract runs out and see what he's trying build.
You don't hear much about what Louis van Gaal is doing with the youth teams, if he changed the style the way they play. Also a lot of the players that have been a round a long time at Old Trafford were brought in by Sir Alex Ferguson who preferred to play a old fashioned classic British style of 4-4-2 playing with wingers,a poacher and a support striker, and aging squad of players. So Louis van Gaal needed to clear out a few of them who were past their best and who are not suited to playing his way. Also he's playing catch up because Sir Alex Ferguson hadn't rebuilt the squad like he used to, there he planned a year or two ahead before they came past their best because of him deciding to retire. Plus in his last season he brought in Robin van Persie from Arsenal to score the goals to win the league, so he could retire on a high (a last throw of the dice for him). Then we had David Moyes fiasco in the transfer market summer and winter window went bye. Then Louis van Gaal didn't start the job until late summer because of the Dutch playing in the world cup in Brazil, so we were slow off the mark signing players. But if the board went down line and decided to sack Louis van Gaal, I would like see someone Pep (Josep) Guardiola to come in, who would take Louis van Gaal project on to the next level or someone like Michael Laudrup who plays modern style possession football with wingers. If I had to pick a former player to be the new manager I would pick Mark Hughes. Not sure if I'm only United fan who's forgiven him for managing Manchester City, but my eyes he is still a United legend (one of our own).

Phew, longest novel I've read since the Uni. :$

Clutching at straws a fair bit there, Rooney has been shocking this season and offers next to nothing this season in a footballing sense that would make us better. He's well and truly past it, needs to go sharply, end of season preferably. Doesn't justify huge wages.

Also regarding that long novel post, can't take any of it seriously when you want Mark Hughes as manager.
