The Manchester United Thread

Phew, longest novel I've read since the Uni. :$

What uni makes you read novels? Unless you're studying literature...

As for the post in question: sdbrook, you might wanna consider paragraphs next time. A wall of text like that makes some people (like me) skip right past it. At least there was punctuation, or I'd report you to the authorities.

Clutching at straws a fair bit there, Rooney has been shocking this season and offers next to nothing this season in a footballing sense that would make us better. He's well and truly past it, needs to go sharply, end of season preferably. Doesn't justify huge wages.

Also regarding that long novel post, can't take any of it seriously when you want Mark Hughes as manager.
So what's wrong with Mark Hughes then!.
I thought he had done a pretty job with the Welsh national team before he started on his club management career with Blackburn Rovers didn't do to bad a job then on to Manchester City where he was unlucky to use his job, at Fulham he reasonably well after Roy Hodgson left, okay he didn't do a good job Q.P.R., but who has done a good job at Q.P.R. in the Premier League and finally I think he's done very well turning Stoke (Stokelona) in a footballing team after taking over Tony Pulis direct style football in such small space of time.

So when make a statement like that, you can't take me seriously. You should back up your words with a reason.
If you read my post I said if had to pick a former player to become United manager I would choose Mark Hughes. So if you was choosing a former player to become a United manager who you choose then, with experience of managing in the Premier League. I believe there is only two former United players currently managing at club with experience of managing in the Premier League.
They're Mark Hughes and Steve Bruce.
So if you had read my post, I said I would go for Pep Guardiola as my first choice and second choice was Michael Laudrup (thinking outside the box).

You forgot Solskjær.

It's not a perfect world but any managers out there who play decent to good football, spend well with good man management?

I'd love Simeone but his football isn't all great is it? just very organised?

Yes you're right had forgotten him, he's back at Molde now I believe. We could get him in the Europa League draw on Monday. But didn't get much experience in the Premier League with before he was sacked.

Hughes over Giggs tbf.
Yes it would be fairy-tale for the club and Ryan it be successful as manager of United. But I have doubts if he is ready to take over as manager on a permanent bases right now. I assume that Ryan has completed his coaching badges now to manage in Premier League as he been rumoured that Swansea would like him as their new manager. Don't quote me on facts and figures on this Information I'm about give you, but I believe if you look at the history of the game there isn't many managers that have been successful as managers as they were as players, so if they have been highly decorated with medals or gifted/skilful footballer as player or even a club legend, so usually aren't as successful as managers at higher level of the game, maybe down in the lower leagues in pyramid system players who club legends etc. are more successful as managers.
For example Sir Alex Ferguson didn't have great career as player, Arsene Wenger didn't, Jose Mourinho didn't, even Pep (Josep) Guardiola wasn't household name really at Barcelona, there were bigger names in team when he played.
Yes Carlo Ancelotti did have high profile playing career plus high profile management career, but isn't many.
And for more examples Alan Shearer (Newcastle legend), Glenn Hoddle (Tottenham Hotspur legend) and Kenny Dalglish (Liverpool legend) oaky he did do well first spell. Bobby Charlton had a go at management at Preston North End at end his career, didn't last long. Bryan Robson had a go for while with Middlesbrough & W.B.A. but not managing now.
But again there are a few done well management for a short spell at club or managing a national side.
Pele never managed, Diego Maradona no good, Franz Beckenbauer brief spell as national head coach, Michel Platini again brief spell as national head coach, Johann Cyruff didn't do to bad Ajax & Barcelona for while.
So over all the ruling is better player usually not as good as a manager, but in very case.

I apologise for people whom have moaned about my long post earlier, but I was only trying be pro-active with our team and looking for the positives, rather than listening to all those so called football pundits criticizing United after every game since Sir Alex retired and just nodding my head in agreement with them because they played the game at the highest level and not forming my view of the situation.
Plus trying to looking at United with open eyes and not with a blinker view with my United hat on, again I'm sorry, I just had to get it off the chest and I was hoping there are others out there with similar view.

Laudrap, hughes, simeone, guradiola had 47 caps for Spain so was hardly awful, Koeman, IIRC four of the manners at last year champions league quarter finals all played for bar a in the 90's so would have been good players Dunga in Brazil. Lots of players have turned into good managers just have lots haven't you can't judge a manager on the playing career they had. He is number 2 and was decent for his four matches in charge. Your thing was long so I didn't quite it and I was lazy

If it's any consolation. I totally agreed with your long post.

Too much pointless speculation in this thread. Unless Woodward went full Florentino Perez, Van Gaal is not gonna get fired mid season, unless he fails to make top 4 or something.

Yep, studied English Literature and Cultural and had a seminaar that made me read novels from Fritzgerald, Virginia Woolf, just to mention some of them.

Was simply joking with the post btw, as I still love reading but after yesterday's match I was pretty much brain dead and heart broken. :'(

Just found this on FB:

As I was born in that year, I couldn't really tell but it this something LVG fans unearthed only to save LVG's **** or do we really need to stick to him for yet another year?

Personally, my patience is over.

As somebody who actually took part in a FERGIE OUT demo outside Old Trafford in 1989 (if memory serves) I disagree ...

Was that from 'Shoot!' ? Seem to recall Greaves having a column in that for a time.

Yeah, there was plenty of anti-Ferguson feeling at the time with banners, chants and demo's. He was gone after that third round tie at Forrest if Utd had gone out. (Whatever the narrative is now out of the club on that. There wasn't a media outlet at the time that didn't have that as his last game.).

Mark frigging Robbins. I'll catch up with that little sod someday .....

What did you think of Woolf?
