The Manchester United Thread

Btw, back on the fullback topic. Do you think Mourinho would of gone into a season happy with having Valencia and Young as first team backups for a position they are not even specialised in? Just behind Darmian and Shaw. Neither Valencia or Young are even fullbacks anyway. I know what you're saying we have been unlucky with injuries in a way, but a manager like Mourinho would never of gone into a season considering players like Young and Valencia as adequate fullbacks. They are wingers and makeshift fullbacks at best.

As LVG has admitted, he prefers smaller tight-knit squads because he finds it hard to motivate a bigger squad of players, understandable I suppose but in the modern game it just won't work.

He will survive... because our board only cares about money and quite frankly there is nothing that will be achieved by sacking him now. It will only expose the reason why they delayed it so long if they sacked him now, of course they won't, it should of been done after the Norwich game when the season was still salvageable.

Mourinho bought Luis and did even use him, nor Rahman, or Papy, so he wouldnt have cared at all. He uses a very small squad as well

He would, because he would also have Rojo, Jones and Valera as backups. All of which are also injured.

Don't be an idiot, no team on the planet keeps 8 first team quality full backs in the squad. Nobody can prepare for that much injures in the same position.

At least Rahman and Luis are actual fullbacks though, behind the likes of Azpilicueto and Ivanovic.

And he doesn't rotate much himself either

Full backs who don't play. That's the point. If anything it would have been wasted money, rather promote the youth to be cover in that regards

Well that was utter *****, our season is well and truly down the drain and LVG will I'm sure bring up more excuses.

We've become David De Gea United and apart from that, not much else. Rooney doesn't even play like a striker, nothing new I know, but if this short burst of goals helps save him for another season as United's no.1 striker I'm seriously baffled. He constantly drops deep and goes searching for the ball. Nothing new I know, but same old problems, which have been evident for a fair few seasons.

Mourinho, if is is to be Mourinho, has a big rebuilding job to do.

State of the big two the North West is frightening. Utd and Liverpool are loaded with mediocrity compared to what City has at their disposal.

This is very much less about the players and more about LVG. He's a dead duck and everyone knows it. It's like Chelsea with Jose, everyone is going through the motions till it changes. Except Woodward can't see it.

Funny thing is, City have been ***** this season as well and we're still nowhere near them. Speaks volumes.

The whole leagues been *****. No better chance for either to be in the top 4. No excuse at all that neither will be.

I genuinely feel bad for Van Gaal, poor guy has some of the worst luck with injuries I have ever seen in football. And he's done some excellent work too. Turning Smalling into one of the best CBs in the league, promoting a lot of youth, making a lot of sensible transfers.

But this is just too much, the situation needs a shake up. The problem is, it could make things even worse. The fixture congestion is massive and there's not enough time to bring new manager from the outside. Giggs has boots on the ground, but you can't throw an unexperienced rookie to sail through the storm. It's a no-win situation.

I've been already saying in December, that they either need to fire LVG quick, or give him vote of confidence with massive investment in the January window. They've done neither, and now the whole thing is falling apart. I'm not even blaming Van Gaal at this point, I'm blaming the board, their indecision put the club into this.

I don't know what you're talking about. Man Utd have a good squad. Just the way LVG has us playing + injuries.

Good 13-14, decent beyond that.

Needs 3-4 for more players, at least one of whom needs to be unstoppable, which could well be Martial in truth

I still think our midfield needs work, but then again, it could be the LVG mist looming over it. At the moment it just doesn't seem to be offering much of anything. Schneiderlin has gone from one of the best midfielders in the league last season to being virtually totally anonymous in this one.

Carrick is done. Schweinsteiger is pretty much done. Herrera... I don't even know anymore. He is a decent player but I don't think much more.

I won't even mention Fellaini.....

Also, again questionable subs today. Subbing Memphis and moving Martial to RW is pointless.

Martial should've went to #9, Mata to RW, Memphis as LW and Rooney as #10.

Not going to debate that as it's all about opinion so it just goes round in circles.

But IMO you've little better a squad than what we currently have. Weak in a lot of areas. Filled out with mediocre to good players you've paid a heck of a lot for with a few genuinely real good ones. And the answer you just gave on top of that is so reminiscent of how most L'pool fans where back the early years the Premier League as we continued to delude ourselves that we were Liverpool and just this injury or that player away from being returned to where we should be. You're a LONG way short of that.

This picture is so familiar it's not even funny.

We're both in a mess with a BIG job to be done to restore ourselves to be consistently challenging for the summit. That just sadly is what it is.

Er, no, no and definitely not. What are you on about? Carrick is still vital to use when he players, Bastian too, when he's actually allowed to get forwards and Herrera is brilliant, and the fact that he isn't playing is madness. I know you're in one of your moods, but that's actually so wrong.

Repeatedly hearing, "this is the worst Manchester United I have seen in years," and "I've never seen Rooney so depressed."

Where have you been the last six months?

Yeah....United are weak in CF, depending on your view of Rooney, and RW because Lingard is still quite inconsistent. What it needs is some more quality depth, and most of all, some motivation.

This hasn't changed much
