The Manchester United Thread

Personally don't think anyone should write off winning a European cup in any era, I mean sure you could get potentially easy ties but it was straight up knockout football. And there was not the stockpiling of talent you get at elite clubs like you do now. You only have to look at some of the unfashionable winners like say Forest, Villa, Steau Bucharest or Red Star. You didn't have scouting networks like you do now either so there were banana skins all over the place especially in not having seeds like you do now. I mean didn't Ajax win it at Wembley against those giants panathaniakos?

But then on the flip side it is hard to win it now especially for clubs not in that elite bracket like Bayern, barce etc. it is different eras but either way you still needed a perfect storm of Quality, Form, injuries etc to win it

Same here. My favourite ground in Spain. From an awesome City, to partying with Manolo in his bar the ground before hand, to those steep banked sides that are awesome for atmosphere but scary as all **** if you've got vertigo, lol, Valencia is just brilliant.

Talking of crossing grounds off, a mate went all sneaky on me and ticked Barnet's new ground off Saturday before Palace Sunday when I wasn't down. Wasn't impressed lol.

Yeah the atmosphere is something else, its like old school football atmosphere but then throw in good weather and sangria and everyone is a winner. It is along with the San Siro and Sao Paolo's ground (morumbo I think something like that) my favourite grounds I have watched football in.

Its hard to win now even for the elite clubs. Just look at the past winners. No team has ever won the Champions League twice on the trot.

******* seriously guys. Pereira doesn't play because Mata is twice as good and before the dumbass red card he was in his best form since he arrived to United. It's called cause and effect.

Every youngster, always the same ****. Januzaj, Pereira, Valera, ******* Wilson. Every youngster who doesn't play is second coming of Pele, and world conspires against them to prevent them from showcasing their amazing talent.

Then they start playing, turn out to be second coming of Tom Cleverley, and you move along proclaiming yet another youngster as genetically modified supertalent, bred in Japanese laboratories from genome of Messi, Ronaldo and Paolo Maldini.

Christ Almighty.

This is another reason why this is a horrendous draw for both sets of fans.

Whichever loses will never hear the end of it from the other.
Not really...it's more horrendous for Liverpool fans.

We've beaten Liverpool 4 times now so nothing much to prove. It would only mean something of Liverpool actually go on to win it which is unlikely.

Aside from the law of averages suggesting Van Gaal's ridiculous luck against us having to run out sooner rather than later, this is Europe my friend. OUR playground.

Actually mata's best form was that august-october period. He was just racking up them stats.

Not sure thats been true for sometime. Recent form matters more, and that is firmly United's favour.

2010-11 Europa League round of 16
2011-12 missed out
2012-13 Europa League Round of 32
2013-14 missed out
2014-15 out of Champions League group stage Europa League Round of 32
2015-16 ???

It is like a council run park good in the 70's and 80's and then a couple of pushy parents renewed interest from 2000-2009 but, now the neds have taken the park over and it looks like this

Dom't we currently lead the form table?

Exciting this isn't it? Funny how everyone that's completely rubished the Europa League is now all over this tie because it's L'pool- Utd. And I include lads I know who've been scrambling for tickets when they had little to no interest against Bordeaux, Kazan and Sion. Couldn't give spares away the early group games.

Meh, can't be over greedy.

We took a break to give you a chance to catch up and you still haven't moved more than 1 clear of Nottingham Forest.

What more do you want? :P.

Assist/goal stats maybe. But if you watch the recent games, he made the pass-before-the-assist for just about every goal you scored last 3 months. You'd be neck deep in **** without him.

Wait...aren't you a united fan?

And remember he was playing on the right side and still created all our chances.

That form was capped by that cheeky assist to smalling against wolfsburg.

We weren't lucky all the time...only time i'll admit we were lucky was the one at anfield this year...

The one at old trafford, we were both equally **** in the first half but we were much better in the 2nd...we grabbed a deserved 3-1 win

Going back to Last season, at anfield, we controlled the game waaaay before gerrard's sending off and got the deserved win...

At old trafford, the 3-0 scoreline kinda overstated it but we were still the better side.

In sum, it's not ridiculous luck. LVG, as **** as he is as a manager, has got your number.

Remember when Januzaj has 2 or so good games and everyone suddenly touted him to play for England......

Your assertion on the other three I'd agree with (although it's hard to argue either side deserved the victory at Utd earlier this year as both were equally *****. You had three shots on goal and scored them all. We couldn't score for ****. Everything in between doesn't bare talking about); but behave on last year's game at Utd. De Gea was in superman mode (not least from Sterling and Ballotelli), whilst again Jones, who should never of been dumped in, in such a game, let every shot at him in. That game could well of been 6/7- 3 with more composure and no De Gea.

Just making excuses really, Mata has only been good at certain moments this season, he like most of our players have had bad spells where he has virtually been invisible in games. In them kind of games it would of been nice to at least see Pereira a bit more off the bench and see what he can do.

Pereira was one of our brightest players on the pre-season tour and he at least deserves to have more of a look in than he has so far this season. As he is one of our brightest youth players.

Also this whole Januzaj comparison is annoying as ****, he had plenty of games to prove himself, especially under the Moyes era, Pereira hasn't.

Stop making out like Mata has been a world-beater this season, he has had a good spell with a few assists/goals recently (nothing less than I'd expect) like some other players and another decent spell before christmas.
