Will take something special for him to come back from an injury like that at his age. Considering pep didn't think he was fit anyway, and he's hardly had the legs of a 25 year old for us either, could be career over

His career has looked all but done since he left Munich TBF but sorry to read this. Hate to see any player suffer a bad injury like that.

Bastian still has an exceptionally good engine on him. Just needs to be well managed. He'll be back next season in great shape. Unless he decides he's won enough in life. He's in that classic period where you put two players like Herrera and Schneiderlin in front of him (same way Germany do) and let him control a game.

The issue with the injury isn't the severity, but the timing, makes it hard to be fit for the Euros, that's why hes a doubt.

I don't know why they didn't just give him a bit rest at NT training. There's a reason LVG only gave him 20 minutes of game time last few weeks. He was visibly chubby after the injury.

Incompetence at international breaks never changes.

And I don't know why you people think it's over for Bastian. He can't run as much as he used to, but he still covers more ground than most people on the pitch.

Should not of even been called up tbh. Oh well can have a long rest and get fit for the new season. Far from done and can play an important role for us next season if used right! Same goes for Shaw also. Please don't rush him back, and should not go to euros either.

People are so used to him covering so much, that when he covers less they think he's done. When actually he's just being less superhuman.

I remember in october time people saying his legs gone etc, shouldn't be playing for Germany and still covered the most ground in the qualifiers.

Meh, we could argue he may come back again but tbh he's pretty useless other than an influential figure to have around the squad nowadays. Too injury prone to ever be a key part of the team and build around, shame really, but there is a reason Bayern/Pep allowed him to go and this is it.

Could probably do with definitely one or maybe two CM's in this summer now.

ZZ's post a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

It's a 3 to 8 week injury.

Dude, he has been in and out the squad all season, I don't know what you're expecting to miraculously happen with him.

Schweinsteiger at this point will be nothing more than a luxury player for us (with his off-field presence more than anything), because we're not going to be able to build anything around a player who comes in and out of the team constantly.

Pretty much. He's been a starter and plays the same role for many years, not like he needs to practice it more. Irresponsible from Low to even call him.

He's made 29 appearances for us despite injuries and poor management by end March, and being out of 2 comps. so you are looking at 35-,max 40 from him a season. Which is exactly right.

Have you ever heard of key rotation. It's exactly what We did with Scholes. Your thinking is so binary, it's often not worth trying raise the point. There is a massive gradient between key player you build around and useless.

Jeez, he is only 31 guys, it's not like he is 35 and ready for the retirement home. It is what, 8 week injury max? He is only a year older than Rooney for Christ sake. Why is everyone assuming he is done? He isn't. He was a a machine before but only slightly less now. Just could he could run for ever and cover ground like it's nothing, doesn't mean he could run the same amount as the average player does.

Exactly. You just manage his games and training accordingly.

Sorry but comparing him to Rooney is a terrible example. Rooney has looked a shadow of himself for a long time now.

It's thinking like this that makes us have these players needlessly for too long in my opinion. Every injury Schweinsteiger gets now is going to effect him, we're talking mentally and physically here. Like someone mentioned who even knows whether he has that same desire and drive to get back to his best, after all he has achieved everything.

As we seen from the return of his last injury, even when he comes back, he is not in the right physical shape either, at this level and where we are aiming to go, I just can't see him being much use on the pitch for us. We may get the odd good cameo appearance but apart from that, not much else.

Exactly. He easily has 3 years left in him, possibly more. And even with his legs slowly going, he's better at being Carrick than Carrick himself ever was.

Of course you can't, your view is instantly no, regardless of whether the facts back it up. He's had much worse and continually returned time and again with great effect.

Of course he has it. Unless he has randomly decided to retire, then he will be back at full tilt next season. May still make the Euros

Well, going off this season I don't think we have been any better with him and only two maybe three games where I think he has been particularly good.

I don't know how you can instantly say "no" when we can only go off what we've seen so far this season and how much of a contribution he makes next season.

If it's like this season again I'd deem it a failure personally, I mean even though the appearences you said were somewhat convincing on paper, I'd say in reality it hasn't been.
