The Manchester United Thread

It is. With Hernandez we are not very flexible. It just doesn't work against team who defend 80% of game. If you give ball to Hernandez in box, he will score, but first, ball needs to find his way to Hernandez. It's hard to make space when you are surrounded with few defenders. He tries to drop deep but he's not really good at it. And that's why we struggle with teams like Blackburn, Stoke... But Hernandez is perfect for teams like Chelsea, L'pool, Arsenal who likes to play possesion game and play highish def line.

I can't question Welbeck's work rate, he is fantastic in that respect. Also like you say, Hernandez is just basically a poacher, but surely with United we need someone the best of both, especially when we just play the one striker up front with Rooney playing in the hole behind him.

It would be great if Welbeck improved some other aspects of his game he could be absolutely great for United, but at the moment he just seems a player with high work rate and no end product.

He is good at everything but the end product, but he creates so much space for the rest of the side, the finishing will come eventually, he rest of his game is very good, and I'd rather have that than Hernandez's limited play, but exceptional finishing more often than not.

Gaitan hardly ever plays in the middle, he either plays left or right wing, even if he played in the middle at Boca. He is technically very good, can pull of some unexpected goals, can score from some distance, excellent on 1 on 1, good crosser, good finisher.
But his mentality certainly needs a change, this season for us, it was incredible his lack of commitment in the league, when compared to the champions league...

Perhaps due to wanting to play on a higher level? Very talented, but not a player we need right now.

Indeed, though the thought of he and Valencia on either wing is enough to make the mouth water. I'm a ***** for good crossers, and Gaitan is superb.

Perhaps there was a communication problem.
What I meant is that he sometimes literally didn't give a flying f*ck to our league games! It is legitimate for him to want a better club and more money, but playing like he did in certain league games of ours, is NOT professional, and this can happen in any club he's at, if he's not satisfied, not a good principle!

Valencia and Nani are good enough, if signing Gaitan means Nani will be out or benched I really hope we dont go anywhere near him.

Well, if Giggs is retiring in the next season or two, wouldn't it make sense to have someone who can play between the lines and perhaps have a bit of trickery to get past a man? Nani is alright, tends to perform well, but seems limited in the current formation. Perhaps adding Gaitan instead of Giggs gives him someone to learn from, as you can't deny the man has talent and would be a lot cheaper than the frequently hyped Hazard, plus it may be a good chance to offload some of the poorer players in a part exchage if those rumours have any truth to them at all!

If you place Nani on left wing, he would not be limited. He cut inside, he hugs the line, he dribble past his man and don't forget his fabulous partnership with Evra. Nani > Gaitan for sure. And somehow I can't see Gaitan filling Giggs current role. Doesn't have discipline for a CM. We are short of options on CM, only two I can see working are Modric and Martinez, maybe even Fellaini.

Jack Rodwell would have been my first choice for a long while, shame about his injuries though, would stay clear of him at the moment. Why does no one like Christian Eriksen? He seems like a class young player to me, only 20 and not as good as Modric but can get there with Fergie's guidance.

Dunno about Rodwell, he's enigma to me. About Eriksen, he has some real talent for sure. But
1) I highly doubt that he's currently better player then Cleverley and Anderson
2) We can't really wait few years, we need class midfielder right this second.

Dont need Eriksen when we have Cleverley. What we need is a more polished player.

God I love him

I am not convinced by Cleverley at all, he has shown nothing this season that he is good enough, infact the performances when he was brought on against Bilbao and a few other occasions shows he struggles to make any impact on a game. Such a key area on the field I am not convinced he is United class.

Rofl, he had a great start, he and Anderson were key to our blistering start, then got disrupted by injury. Talented and raw, very calm and collected on the ball will be a very good player.

Buying Eriksen makes literally no sense.

I disagree about Cleverley, but maybe we have got to accept he may become good giving the amount we spend on new players these days, I would 100% take an Eriksen over a Cleverley though.

We surely have enough attacking talent in midfield. Need more defensive options with Fletcher being out injured.

I disagree, take out Scholes (who can't last forever) we have Anderson/Cleverley, are they good enough to play for a season and challenge on all fronts? I don't think so. The main priority next year should be giving a better display in Europe because quite frankly this year was unacceptable and us winning the title will glitter over that (if we win the title).
