The Manchester United Thread

Sturridge has missed 70 games through injury since signing for Liverpool, hes miy goto crock. In this thread or the pool one i;ll switch it to Oxlade or Wilshere just for you from now on :D

I've not seen much of Gungodan if i'm honest, i'm presuming a Carrick type midifelder (wins the ball by reading the pass, rather than breaking legs) but 24 yr old carrick not 48 or whatever he is now :p
Err...he's more like schweinsteger. He can play B2B as well as the DLP role.

Seen a few people on different Firums saying he could miss nearly all this season and struggle to be fit to play even if he makes it back.

All season, hes due back in September start at the earliest, mid september on target.

Where have they added another 8 months from?

To be honest he did the job he that was given. Got rid of the deadwood, rebuild the team and transitioned to possession football. The tasks for this season was CL football and a trophy, he missed the former by goal difference and won the latter. Certainly a disappointment in the end, but hardly a collosal fuckup people are making it out to be.

It's easy to wank about his spending, but people forget what kind of monumental rebuild job he had on his hands. The squad that he inherited had a total of two players that weren't ****, Mata and De Gea. Now you have the best backline in the league, much improved midfield, and some of the most exciting youngsters in the world of football. Not too shabby for 2 years of work.

We can only speculate, but pretty sure he would never get fired if Mourinho wasn't available. For all Jose's faults, you can't pass up an opportunity like that.

Certainly a lot of valid points here and I would agree with the majority but to me his tenure is still looked at as a failure. I mean he did do great with clearing the deadwood but a lot of his investment with signings are still yet to be answered. But if we take it as the here and now there is a fair few players that was bought under his reign who still have a lot to prove.

Memphis, Darmian, Schneiderlin, Herrera all spring immediately to mind. Then not forgetting the whole Falcao and Di Maria lark, which wasn't his fault entirely but will be seen as bad business ultimately. Losing a player for less money you bought as a record signing a year later.

Hope not, was a load of **** out there tonight. Even Portugal had no stand out players.
Was a dire game. And was most probs there as just a spectator but I think he defo interested in Gomes if Di Marzio, Amoyal and various sources in Spain are reporting.

Not been on the site for a while. A lot has changed since my last post. Going to drop a few opinions here on the whole situation.

Van Gaal sacking: Correct decision. We were going nowhere with him. The football was rubbish and when there is no tangible improvement over time he didn't deserve another summer of spending as he was going to mess the dynamics of this squad further. So many of his own transfers struggled. To be honest we should have anticipated what he would try and do here when he joined. The philosophy - patient (pedestrian) build up play could have built a solid foundation with the right players but instead we got caught up in trying to barge our way back to the top buying not fit for purpose players. Daley Blind was comfortable in the system transitioning from back to front because he grew up with that style. Guys like Di Maria, Falcao, Memphis thrived on fast counter attacking play (ok discount Falcao because he is truly finished :P). Ander Herrera suited Bielsa's non stop high intensity game - similar to Pochettino. He is not technically good enough to fit in Van Gaal's ideas and Schneiderlin's football career has grown in the English leagues where his physical tenacity is a big quality. Again not technically good enough to play the Dutch way. If the club allowed him the chance to put in this blueprint surely Pep Guardiola was the man we needed to follow through...not Ryan Giggs who would have ripped it up and reverted back to the Utd he was a player in...fast, dynamic football.

Van Gaal's way failed and we'll never see what Giggs would have done gladly. Mourinho is the man we should have got in 2013. His success in the modern era is the most crucial factor. No one disagreed with LvG's appointment after the Moyes disaster but all those opposition views that his CV was dated proved true. Mourinho is still in the top 3 managers currently. 4 bad months doesn't tear him apart.

That said he learned his trade under LvG for a period of time and I imagine players who were critical/didn't see the point of LvG's analytical methods will be in for a shock. The last two managers left with players seemingly undermining them. Mourinho won't let that happen I'm sure.

DDG speaking in an interview today with Spanish paper. Saying how happy he is and is pleased with his form and is delighted to be working under Mourinho and looking very forward to the season and championships ahead.

about to be signed

ZLATAN TO JOIN MAN UTD

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to sign for Manchester United on a one-year contract, according to Sky sources.

He will be Jose Mourinho's first signing since joining the club as manager - Sky Sports News HQ reporter Andy Burton says the deal is close to completion and could even be finalised before Euro 2016.

Burton also reports that United were made aware of the possibility of signing Leicester forward Jamie Vardy, but decided not to make an offer because they do not want to block the path of Marcus Rashford by bringing in two new forwards.

By steering clear of Vardy, United believe they can sign Ibrahimovic and still offer Rashford a realistic chance at regular first-team football.
