The Manchester United Thread

Mourinho hates possession for the sake of possession like Van Gaal loves, Mourinho won't accept passing the ball sideways/backwards for 90 mins. When we have the ball we will be direct and attack with pace, you can be sure of that. Which suits this team much more than LVG's way ever could of.

Carrick is a brilliant forward passer, when allowed to

Can't see any of the current squad going after Mou said this. Also said TFM and Smalling missed because of minor knocks or they would have been given mins.

Mourinho: 'If these players weren't in my plans I wouldn't give them a single minute. They wouldn't be in my squad.
Then that's it for schweinsteger then.

Don't know, he hasn't really had a chance to even play him yet? Has he? In my opinion the prospect of Pogba and Schweinsteiger is more enticing than any other partnership.

Pogba and Schneiderlin is mine or them and Herrera in a 3. He would be awesome though.

He could have played him tonight he's back training. But not even been training with the first team. Think he's a gonna.

You could do with a central defender imo. I'm unsure that Smalling and Bailly would be a good fit. Could do with one with experience. Pogba would be a great addition. Also feel that United could do with someone to dictate play from the middle of the park. Pogba isn't fit for that role nor the rest of your midfielders.

Carrick can control a game no problem but we need to replace him next season imo. Someone like Wiegl would be my choice. Think we're are fine at CB tbh. Yeah Bailly will take a little time to settle, but quality is there for all to see and he has a lot of what we've been missing since Vidic left. Just a no nonsense defender, but has the bonus that he can play also.

Bailly is strong, quick and aggressive. My only worry is that he could sell himself too easily and be too undisciplined hence the Gabriel Paulista comparison. Seriously, he was bought to replace Gabriel Paulists, has similar stats to Gabriel Paulista and has the same style of play. Strong, quick and aggressive.

I forgot about Carrick. Big fan of Carrick. Good decision to renew his contract imo despite his legs going.

Joao Mario would be best imo. You were linked with him earlier in the summer.

Yeah Carrick still very good and can be key if used correctly. If Mou keeps up his record at training and turning young CBs up we could have a very good player in Bailly. I rate Paulista tbh, just needs games and a season to adapt.

Paulista has been hit and miss. I don't know what to label the success of his transfer. He can look incredible at times then make an erratic decision due to being too aggressive and can sell himself too easily. A bit like Otamendi but even more aggressive. I don't know many Arsenal fans that can judge the success of his signing.

See I think he's more of an attacking midfielder not a player who can dictate play ala Wiegl, Verratti, Modric, Kroos etc
Deep lying playmakers are among the most expensive positions on the pitch. Think of any decent ones for under 30 mill.

Yeah and he said the same thing about the likes of Mata in his first season at Chelsea before freezing him out. You should know better than taking Jose at his word by now.
Feel free to rubbish my reply but this Mata is different from the one he met at chelsea: He's developed the defensive side of his game. He puts in more tackles...covers more ground...he can even play that pressing football mourinho likes (i.e watch united vs arsenal last season and notice how brilliantly he pressed arsenal higher up the pitch.)

Agreed, this Mata is a real harrier, whatever defensive issue he might have had at Chelsea (though he certainly worked hard before he was sold), he's tried to improve

Can't say I noticed any change. Remember how he pulled out of 50-50 tackle one game, costing you late goal and 3 points? Mata will never have the right mentality to be good defensively, it's always in the back of his head to avoid contact. Which is understandable of course given that he weights like 50 kilos, but it was never the case of him not working enough. He worked very hard in Chelsea too, but he just lacks that much needed tenacity in tackle.
